I want FRESHVEGETABLES in my vegetarian dishes, not frozen! Had the vegetable Korma. Yuk. I can get this, if not better, from an Amy’s frozen meal in the frozen food section of a local food chain market. The Tandoori Special Garlic Chicken Malai was obviously boiled white meat chunks. Yuk again. Naan was tasteless. Overpriced as well. I you want GOOD Indian food take the drive to Ann Arbor. They have many GOOD Indian restaurants. It will be well worth it. Cardamom on Plymouth Rd. recently was voted best Indian food in Mich. Put in on your Travel list!

This is the best Indian restaurant in town as far as I think. Just tried the lunch Buffett and loved it.

Ordered everything«American spicy» rather than the«Indian spicy» and we are very glad we did… The«American spicy» was super super spicy and we love spicy food. The 3 cheese naan was amazing and so were the Garlic/Parmesan naan and jalapeño popper naan. List of dishes in order of most favorite: 1. Chile chicken 2. Chicken saag 3. Garlic chicken malai 4. Butter chicken All were very good! First time trying Indian food.

Took a chance based upon the Unilocal rating. I’m sorry. Not sure who is giving this place 4 stars but they must not have much experience with Indian food. The food was pretty dreadful. The grease pooled on the plate from the curry. Almost every entrée on the buffet was chicken… vindaloo, curry, saag — all chicken! Usually, Indian food is very flavorful with different spice notes. Not here. Very bland with little flavor or spice. There was a desert on the buffet which claimed to be «baklava with nuts» thrown in a pan. Not sure what it was. Tasted kinda like burnt unsweetened shredded wheat with a gooey unsweetened center. The ambiance was surreal with the 50’s style chrome diner setting with various pics of Hindu gods and goddesses on the walls. Recommend you steer clear! I want to leave on a good note. The naan was good.

This place was quite good as they had a lot alot of food on the thali. They dont necessarily have alot of veggie options bt quite satisfactory still. The location seems quite old and boring bt the food was finger licking tasty. I ordered a veg thali with malai kofta and got dal and aloo matar as a part of thali with tons of rice and bread and a gulab jamun. My wife ordered a veg korma it was good except it had zucchini and broccoli which i dont expect in indian food. Apart from that it was very nice.

Pretty good food on the whole from what I’ve had, but I feel it is overpriced for what you get. I’m not real sure why Indian food places are as expensive as they are in Toledo, it has not been that way any other place I’ve lived. Chicken Curry and Tikka Masala should not be $ 15 in this humble man’s opinion. My good friend Reshmi makes some delicious traditional Indian dishes and we’ve never spent close to that on a meal she’s made. If they want more repeat customers, they(and other Indian restaurants around Toledo) need to come down on their pricing-to-portion ratio. Right now it’s just not worth buying as opposed to making.

Since I moved away from the amazing Indian restaurants of western Wayne county and those in Ann Arbor, I have been in search of places to fill my Indian food needs. This was my first attempt. First off, I love the Indian buffets and was let down to find out there wasn’t one here. I can’t fault them, though, as I assumed they had one and didn’t check ahead of time. Looking for spice, I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo lunch. It came on a somewhat creepy steel tray, thali style, with a selection of sides. The spice level was good, and the food was OK in taste, but there just seemed to be nothing standing out; Nothing screamed amazing, so I just couldn’t feel impressed. There was no tandoori chicken(which i was craving) on the menu and the naan seemed too puffy. The staff was really nice, which I appreciate.

Unbelievably good food. Perfectly and individually seasoned to taste. Addicting naan. Excellent service. A LOT of bang for the buck(and not too many of those for what you get)!!

It’s clean. Interesting. Friendly. But, hard to find a something positive to say about the food — papadum were tasteless and saag gosht was in a salty, brown sauce akin to canned, supermarket gravy. Pretty hard to find good Indian anywhere nearby. Oh well

The food was decent for the area and the service was nice. I got he shrimp tandoori and a friend got the veggie korma which was quite good. Three stars because the interior feels like a diner and I expected the food to be a little bit better

The location is an old diner. However inside was clean. I ate here for lunch and got an entire meal for $ 10.99. I had the Lamb Korma and it came with 2 vegetable dishes, a small appetizer and desert along with some naan. For the price the food was good. It was not the best I’ve had. The korma seemed bland of all spices. Service at this location was also good.

I frequent Indian restaurants, and this is one of the best in the Midwest. The food is authentic and the flavors are incredible. Definitely try the saag paneer and tiki masala! Both are fantastic. *side note– the fine owners of this establishment will turn up the heat of you ask. As a fan of spicy food, I recommend you do!

The Star of India serves the most delicious, traditional and authentic Indian cuisine you could conceivably hope for. I order my dishes extra-extra 911 spicy, and this is the only restaurant I’ve ever been to in which I’ve actually had to take my time eating a dish served to me. Not only is it extra-extra-extra spicy, but flavorful as well. You can tell they prepare their food with pride and the skills of a master alchemist. In fact, the owners never take a day off, save for major holidays. The dedication and commitment to the customers is phenomenal and the food and atmosphere are reflective of that. The service has always been exceptional. I feel like a guest as opposed to a customer, which requires a deal of finesse. It had been nearly a year since my last visit, and they still remembered my usual order and spiciness level! Unassuming, in a ‘50s diner, but it’s good stuff. Great stuff. Truly great.

Great Indian food is hard to come by in the Toledo area, but Star of India knows what they’re doing. I had chicken tikka masala prepared spicy, and my wife had the chicken curry mild. We can definitely put our stamp of approval on their classic Indian dishes, and are excited to go back and venture through the other menu items. Really great service as well.

I tried calling in a take-out order one time and the lady who answered the phone put me on hold and never got back on the line with me again(I waited for a good 5 minutes at least). I tried hanging up to call again and the line was busy because I was still technically on the phone with her(and she never hung up). Very frustrating. But I was determined to get Indian food that night so I drove into the restaurant and physically went in to place the order myself… and to remind her to hang up the phone so other people can call in… In their defense, it was a busy night and they appeared a little short-staffed. But no apology and no guilt for inconveniencing me whatsoever. So I had to awkwardly sit at the bar and wait for an additional 20 minutes for my food to be ready. Food was good, but pricey. Overall experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

The food, flavors, and service are really great here! Me and a buddy were tooling around Toledo and wanted to go somewhere we hadn’t been before, so we ended up here. My buddy has been to India and gave this place his stamp of approval. The diner look on the outside is kind of quirky but hey, the food is why you go to a restaurant, right? We got the Chicken Saag and the Lamb Vindaloo along with the Naan basket. Everything was extremely tasty. The servers were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I needed plenty of water as my vindaloo was quite hot and spicy! There was enough for some to take home and the leftovers were even better the next day! A score for T-Town to be sure!

My wife and I were on road trip back to Columbus after an overnight in Michigan. It was time for lunch but neither of us wanted the usual suspects that are found near interstate exits. Unilocal!to the rescue! After a bit of a search I pulled up Star of India and asked my smart box for directions. Less than 10 minutes from 475, it’s not really out of the way. We pulled up and were surprised to see it housed in a 50’s style diner. Bonus for atmosphere. Our arrival time was late lunch, ~2pm, so we were told to sit where we liked. Our server provided menus promptly and took our drink order. I ordered a lamb curry thali. My wife ordered chicken channa. Naan was brought to the table. My curry was flavorful with an okay amount of spice.(They can clearly make it hotter if that is your thing.) The lamb was tender. The lentils were a bit bland. The«baklava» like dessert was light with a touch of sweetness. My mango lassi was refreshing. The portions were reasonable if a little too big. We will definitely stop again. Don’t be afraid to venture away from the highway on a road trip.

I just recently ate here for the third(or fourth?) time, so I feel as if I can give a pretty solid review. First of all, and this gets mixed reviews from other Unilocalers I’m sure, is the décor. I absolutely love it. It’s like going back to a 1950s diner but with the interesting juxtaposition of the Indian food wafting from the back. It’s a little kitschy, but I like it. The place is very well kept — clean bathrooms, floors, and tables. Overall, a very good start. A little background on myself… I used to live in Cincinnati. A little known fact about Cincinnati is the crazy amazing Indian food dispersed throughout the city. The Indian food in this area is truly, truly phenomenal, so comparing anything else may be a little unfair. However, this place stacks up pretty well. I’m a chicken tikka masala type of girl, and this place does it pretty good. Very different from what I’m used to in the heart of Cincy, but the flavor profile is there and delicious. I love going in there for lunch. You get this wonderful, portioned plate with different samplings of Indian fare, including dessert. The portion is great and it’s pretty cheap considering the amount of food you get. Finally, the service is wonderful. I’ve had a different server each time, and they have all been attentive and super friendly. It’s almost like you’re apart of the family when you’re there(I hate that phrase, but it’s very true). The chef is also very sweet. Today he came to our table and made sure we were satisfied. Today was the best experience I’ve had with this place, so it’s definitely on an upswing.

EXCELLENT Indian food. For quite a while, I hesitated to try this place, because some of my Indian colleagues said the food here was«not authentic.» However, my personal experience with Star of India simply reinforced what I’ve always known. That is, I don’t really care if food is «authentic» or not, as long as it tastes good to me.(After all, live monkey brains are an «authentic» Cambodian delicacy, are they not? Or is that just a myth? Hmmm. I don’t remember.) Authentic or not, the food here is delicious. I’ve eaten a total of six different entrées here,(see my tip, check ins and photos for more specifics) and every single one has been fantastic. The service, and the conversation with the owners, was also great. Additionally, Star of India caters, and soon, they will deliver. Also kind of cool is that lunch in served in a tray(thali). The last time that I ate a meal out of such a tray, was when I was in grade school. Or maybe it was when I spent the night in jail. Again, I don’t remember. Star of India gets my vote for«best Indian restaurant located in a building that used to be a diner.» In fact it gets my vote for best Indian food in Toledo.
