This place is AWFUL!!! Let’s start from the beginning. We get seated and the chairs had chunks of food on them from the previous guests(never cleaned off). I brushed it off thinking it was just a mistake… It’s okay. We get sat in a corner where we have to squeeze into our booth next to a wheelchair. We felt bad cuz we bumped the lady getting through.(Mind you half the restaurant was empty so why they would seat us in such an awkward location is beyond me)! I am a waitress, and when I say our waitress was terrible… I mean there is no excuse for how crappy of service we got. Our drinks were empty 80% of the time. My food came out incorrect and we could never find our server(ANDTHEYWEREN’T BUSY!). I had to stop someone in the restaurant after waiting 8 minutes trying to find our server because when my food came back out«cooked correctly» my veal Parmesan was literally like I was chewing on a rubber tire! I didn’t even eat it, and I will usually eat anything… That’s how horrible it was! DONOTGOHERE! Their prices are ridiculous for the crappy service and environment you are in. And their food is NOT what is should be for what they charge. We chose here because it was my daughter’s Dad’s birthday and we thought it would be a nice setting and good quality. We were very wrong!

Eh… That about sums it up. The service was pretty good but the food was defiantly something I could prepare and use fresher ingredients at home. I ordered the New Orleans Garden Chicken… It was loaded in oil and topped with veggies that were soggy. The side of «fresh veggies» was definitely frozen from a bag. Ceaser salad had fake Parmesan cheese. This was a meal that was edible but definitely was not worth the price. I would love to see a place like this succeed and take advice to use fresh ingredients if they are going to charge the prices they do.

I enjoy the casual dining experience at the black pearl. Prices are very reasonable with the quantity and quality of food you receive. A great place to take the whole family and not feel your intruding on everyone’s night out.

Interested in a healthy start to my dinner, I asked if they had a garden salad. A spinach salad was recommended. To be sure it would be healthy, I checked and was reassured it would not have cheese. What I was served was a pile(a large pile) of cholesterol-laden egg and bacon with a few spinach leaves tucked underneath. Then, God knows why, I ordered calve’s liver with onions. Needless to say, what I was served was an abomination. I ran. You should also. Good luck!

Had the pleasure of having lunch there yesterday. The service was excellent and attentive. The lunch menu contains about 10 items in the 8 – 10 dollar range which makes them reasonably priced. I eventually choose the chicken Alfredo which was excellent. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The salad was ok but a good size. The rolls were above average and much better than most places. I read other reviews and I can only speak from my experience. I told my wife we will go there next week.

Went to Black Pearl last night with a party of 5. Service was ok although our waitress brought an entrée chicken salad with no chicken when she brought another tables order… we had to tell her it needed chicken. She took it back and we saw it again, this time correctly prepared with, 15 minutes later with the rest of the tables entrees. Food was decent and prices were reasonable. I gave only 3 stars because everything was just average… nothing memorable. Wouldn’t go back except when attending an event at Stranahan.

Excellent food and the service was great. The Black Pearl prime rib special blacked for 20 bucks was fabulous!##

it has taken a while for the Black Pearl to find its footing, but overall, it’s a good choice for lunch or dinner. Start with the bar. It’s a great cozy place to go for a drink and a nosh. If you judge a restaurant by the quality of their cocktails, the Black Pearl gets a 10 on a 10 scale. The pour is beyond generous, and the price is exceptionally reasonable. I dare say, it may be the best cocktail in the entire city. The dining experience is relatively consistent. At lunch, they offer one«special» at a reasonable price. However, quite often the choice is not all that appealing. That’s just personal. Some may find just the opposite. If there’s a great special, get it. It comes with wonderfully fresh-and-hot-from-the-oven rolls and a salad to die for. You can choose from the house(a massive side salad that is crisp and fresh), a spinach salad(read: Betty’s Salad, loaded with real bacon and all the fixings that made Betty’s(Timko’s) salad legendary), or a Caesar. I recommend either the house or Betty’s. Of all the luncheon specials, the Louisiana beef tips is a winner. Nice chunks of tender beef in a Cajun or Jamaican Jerk inspired sauce, topped with melted Mozzarella. One of the best sandwiches is the French dip sandwich. Tons of shaved prime rib on a generous roll with au jus. On Wednesdays, it’s prime rib night. The small prime rib is on special, and it’s more than enough for almost anyone. You get the same hot rolls, salad choice, and a starch — choice of a baked potato, steak fries, or skinny fries. All are worthy of a try. While I tend to avoid seafood at a non-seafood restaurant, I heartily recommend both the shrimp and the scallops. The shrimp can be either deep fried or sautéd in lots of butter and white wine. Awesome. Same with the large sea scallops. They are tender and plenty for a full meal. The waitstaff is, generally speaking, very experienced and efficient. They are friendly, courteous, and if you are a regular, they treat you like royalty. A word of warning, though. When there is an event at the Stranahan, it can be a long wait for a table. They do a land office business on those occasions. You can call ahead for reservations, and they are fairly good about seating you on time.

Black Pearl is like a locally owned Red Lobster. I had the seafood platter which was all fried. I noticed a few local fish from the lake(I never had perch before), but mostly standard fare. It’s not a foodie’s kind of place, but if you have a craving for basic seafood, not bad. Be prepared to spend at least $ 20 if not more.

Best prime rib. Period. I would recommend getting the lunch portion that’s blackened with no bread. It’s huge and the meat is tender. I’m drooling thinking about it now. And they have great steak fries to go with it.

very good food. Very personable staff usually and great adult beverages. Usually very consistent, well made flavorful food. Some of the app’s perhaps overpriced for the portions,(ie chicken wings) but have not had a bad meal there. Other app’s less pricey than they could be. One of my favorite places to go especially early.

Steak was a little over cooked for medium, but it was still pretty good. My cousin had her wedding dinner there and the staff was super nice and accommodating despite the water situation. Overall it was a pretty good experience.

This place is the definition of average. Im not saying thats a bad thing though. Its moderately expensive and you do get a fair amount of food but the quality is so bland and generic. Plus you get a sense that a lot of their food is frozen and microwaved to death. Overall 3/5…an average score for an average restaurant.

Not the worst place I’ve eaten… But not the best. For the money, I would go somewhere else. It’s noisy the seating is crappy and the food is bland.

Was told that this was a good place for food. When asking questions to the server I asked about product being fresh and was told that all product is fresh every day. This is not the case. I had scallops for my appetizer and they were over cook and rubbery. When eating had a freezer burn taste to them. My meal was a steak. I asked for it medium rare and it came out well done. I said something to the server and she told me that they can’t redo it and sorry. I never got a refill on my drink and all I had was a soda. This was seriously worst meal I have ever had in Toledo.

Won’t be going back. We both ordered their house meal — prime rib. All I could taste was the green peppers that had been poured over the top. The onions and mushrooms were tasteless. I don’t think the grill had been cleaned, because besides the peppers, the only other thing I could taste was the burnt char on the meat. The horseradish had no taste. The Caesar salads were terrible. Décor is dated and the service was lack-luster. Tables were crammed together, with 2 big parties(noisy) right in the middle of the dining room. We had to squeeze through the tables to get out. Ordered a New Castle beer and was informed that they only had 3 left. Apparently Thursday was half off night and they had not restocked for Saturday night? Go Figure.

Eh, I honestly wasn’t impressed at all for the price. Started off finding out that they offer no draft beer, and only offered macrobrews(except for one Great Lakes brew) in bottles. Seemed kind of odd to me that a place like this wouldn’t have more than one microbrew, but I decided to just go ahead and get a glass of the house wine. For the price($ 5+) I expected a large glass of wine, but it ended up being a medium/small glass. The wine ended up being good, so I wasn’t too displeased about that. Moving on, I ordered a seafood marinara dish that came with scallops and shrimp and such, which overall was pretty good, but the shrimp was gross. The shrimp was huge, which was a plus, but was tough and greatly overcooked. To add on to this, the shrimp was also grisly and crunchy at times, so I don’t know if there was some shell left on it or what. It got to a point where I didn’t want to eat it, but seeing I paid almost $ 20 for the meal, I felt like I had no choice but to. The scallops were cooked fine, but there was just something wrong with the shrimp. I also wasn’t very happy about the multiple flies we saw flying around our table. The restaurant staff was very nice, and the ambiance was good, but for the price, I felt like it could do a lot better.

I have had better meals at Denny’s. Seriously. I really hate feeling ripped off after I leave a restaurant. More importantly, I hate wasting the space in my stomach for a sub-par meal. This is exactly how I felt after eating at Black Pearl. The outside looks like a high end restaurant, but the interior is dated, uninviting, and drab. The hostess seated us threw down the menus and walked away without saying anything to us. My silverware was dirty and the table was sticky. Our waitress, when she finally decided to show up to take our order, seemed put out by helping us. However, I can excuse a poorly designed restaurant and even poor service as long as the food is good — but strike 3! The food was not even average, it was simply bad. The dinner rolls, brought out after about 20 minutes of waiting were obviously previously frozen and stale. My mother and I both ordered a blackened chicken salad(The Ultimate Salad according to the menu), and my wife ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. The salad was not even as good as the cheap ones at pizza places. It was a pile of iceberg lettuce, one quartered tomato, a few red onion slices, pepperoncini, mountains of tasteless cheese, and some croutons. Not what you would expect in a place that has such high prices on the menu. I tried two dressings — first a vinaigrette that was simply awful, and then a raspberry vinaigrette that resembled the berry syrup at IHOP. Neither of the two were very palatable so I picked at the chicken a bit and gave up. My wife’s sandwich came on stale(previously frozen) flatbread with far too much greasy blue cheese melted on it as well as some bland chicken and a bit of buffalo sauce. She hardly touched it. I will not go back and recommend you save your money.

Certainly not the best meal I’ve had but it was quite tasty. A buy one get one free coupon got us in the door and has me wanting to try it again. We walked in on a Saturday night at 7pm with only an estimated 40 minute wait, we probably only waited about 25 minutes though. The service was good, beverages promptly refilled and a personable waitress. We started with calamari, a moderate portion for the price but served with plenty of lemon and a delicious dipping sauce. I ordered the Seafood Marinara but switched the sauce to Alfredo, it was delicious. Big full sized scallops, large shrimp and tons of langastinos filled the thick sauce, very tasty and almost too rich. I’m a girl who rarely walks away with leftovers and I have a full portion of pasta to savor for lunch tomorrow. The rest of my table was quite happy with their meals as well. I definitely recommend this for a moderately priced nice meal or special occasion. The ambiance was a bit lacking due to a loud table at the bar where we were seated, but otherwise it was a nice night out.
