I went back to Ohio… to my hometown of Toledo… and experienced Toledo like the west-coaster I’ve become, from the vantage of an Air BnB in the Old West End, all Unilocaling for a coffee shop nearby. This place was a big thrill for me, vegetarian options and all. Yay Toledo! I will be back next time I’m in town!

Experienced a Saturday here for the first time, and dined in for the first time as well. Normally I just pick up and leave. Pricing here, while a tad on the high side, is what you expect for a coffee shop. Nothing to complain about really. The clientele is very much a mixed bag, everything from high schoolers to hipsters and a bunch of old grey-hairs as well. It’s really cool to see the mix of different age groups all together. Not something that I find at a lot of places like this. Food is above average, I’ve now tried a good portion of the menu, never had anything I didn’t particularly care for. The staff is also very friendly.

Stopped here on my way to Cleveland because I was looking for a donut/coffee shop. The Holy Toledough donuts were amazing, and whether every cent :) I also tried the breakfast bagel bomb — cream cheese, sausage, and egg… I’d recommend it! They also had several vegetarian options and lots of desserts. If you’re in the area, check it out!

Cute local coffee shop in the Old West End. Lattes are good and food is fresh and homemade. I hear they have brunch 10:30 Saturday and Sunday. I will definitely be back.

We stopped in for brunch and were blown away. The doughnuts were amazing the coffee game was strong. We were so very happy with our brunch selections(Sausage Gravy and Biscuits with Scrambled Eggs and Grilled Cheese with Ham and Paprika Butter). We will definitely return. Was worth the trip from Maumee.

The last time I went in there were no sweet pies, only savory pies. Still, the coffee was good & there are many drink options. It’s a nice place to hunker down and study or meet a friend. There’s a small lot behind the building that you can park in.

A tad overrated(places like this always are), but still well worth coming to. Located in the Old West End, this is a quintessential neighborhood coffee house. The coffee is good, and the food isn’t bad either, but I come here mainly for the atmosphere. Note that Holely Toledough products can frequently be found here.

Great service. They have the BEST brunch in Toledo on Sat-Sunday with a rotating menu! Everything is better with Bacon

Amazing coffee and homemade food. Today I stumbled upon their brunch which is organic, local, great portions, and great prices! A must stop location whether a local or passer through.

Loved the coffee and donuts here! I tried Black Kite for the first time over the weekend. Firstly, their coffee is delicious. I ordered just a regular coffee and it was perfect. I went with my sister and she ordered a carmel coffee. I usually find these drinks super sugary and disgusting but hers was delicious and very flavorful. Second, the donuts! Black Kite serves Holey Toledough donuts Thurs-Sat. Oh my! They are fantastic homemade gourmet donuts. They can’t be beat. We tried the maple bacon and the french crueller. Worth the trip just for the donuts. We had a very nice experience and look forward to visiting again.

I really like all the food here it is really great, I’ve enjoyed all of their breakfasts and doughnuts. And the only reason I gave them 4 stars is because their orange juice game is so weak, I get that it’s fresh squeezed and i Also know that you don’t need a lot of OJ to meet your daily vitamin c intake, but seriously $ 3 for like 4 ounces of OJ. Weak OJ game.

Great brunch and coffee. Albeit pricey. Overlook the hipsters and you will have a great time.

It is sometimes drafty in here, so bring warm attired during the winter months. Their pies are great and savory. Pretty unique as well. I like that this has become a great community hot spot in my neighborhood, the great Old West End. Speaking of, the Old West End latte is amazing. I get mine with soy. The baristas are all fantastic and friendly! I also hear that their brunch food is amazing! I haven’t had the honor of trying it yet, but I’m sure it would bump this up to 5 stars!

Damn, I definitely have to update this review! I have a couple good friends who live, like, a few blocks from here, so I knew at some point that I would be dragged back here. We went for brunch at around 11 on a Sunday morning, and I gotta say: I was impressed and left totally stuffed. I don’t know if they have the same menu for brunch all the time, and with the deliciousness I had, I wouldn’t mind if they never changed it. My group of four ordered four separate dishes, and they all looked crazy good(and mine obviously tasted crazy good — like a heuvos rancheros topped with every other manner of breakfast food). When it comes to the coffee, it was very good — but, then again, I’m no coffee snob, so I can’t really be trusted on that. But I am very glad I had a much different experience here the second time around. I look forward to eating/hanging here again.

I like the fact this is not Starbucks and is a private establishment and is in an older building. I always seek these type of places but overall I was not impressed. The café itself wasn’t that clean, and the bagel and breakfast sandwich was below average in taste. The coffee we had, an Americano and cappuccino were not bad with cappuccino being the better of the two. But the coffee and food price vs taste/quality of environment was to high in my opinion. I love urban cafes even when gritty, but there needs to be great food and coffee and an environment that is appealing. I will probably go back once in a while but not regularly and try some other coffees but have to admit I was a bit disappointed. Dec.10thUPDATE I visited 3 more times and have a similar conclusion. The sausage and cornbread brunch special was very good but hamburger so so. The regular coffee is quite good. The service was generally not friendly. I had one person that was friendly out of 5 visits to the counter total during these 3 visits. It is worth a try, it has an urban atmosphere which is nice and good regular coffee, but they definitely have room for improvement.

Just an update for those looking for an awesome brunch option in Toledo. Happy Badger is now offering brunch Saturdays AND Sundays, every week at Black Kite coffee. The menu is incredibly eclectic, locally sourced and high quality. Today we tried the beautifully seasoned lamb burger, and the savory pancakes. Very quirky mix of ingredients went into that one. It’s really cool seeing people try NEW things in Toledo. Give these guys a shot. Expect a wait for the food and for them to run out of some options. While you wait, sip on some coffee or tea and enjoy the bohemian people watching. It’s like being transported to Williamsburg or Wicker Park. At some point Happy Badger will need their own Toledo Unilocal page, as their Bowling Green location is now closed.

A great local coffee shop. The food offerings are limited, but quite tasty. The bagel bombs are a must have item; warm cream cheese wrapped in a hot bagel ball. They’re to die for. The coffee service is slower than is ideal, but I’ve also never seen an order get sent back. A drive through would increase my number of visits on the way to work. Overall a lovely place to spend a few hours with friends drinking coffee and eating amazing foods.

What a nice hidden gem! It’s great that they are kid friendly! On Saturday mornings(1st –3rd) they have a preschool program for toddlers.(Dates may have changed). They also participated in restaurant week which is why we stopped in. The $ 10 meal included coffee, soup and a choice of a salad or meat/veggie pie. The cream of artichoke soup was so delicious! Perfect on a cold day! It was just the right blend of creaminess and had a little zing to it! Delicious!
