We eat here several times a month, and have for years. I have noticed however, that when the owner is not there, it is like a completely different restaurant. We love the hamburgers, rolls, and a few of the other menu items. The staff is friendly, if not always attentive, especially when the boss is away. We were there around 8pm one Friday night, and the staff was putting the chairs up on the tables, talking loudly, and smoking right outside the doors near our table, as if we weren’t even there. It made us feel uncomfortable and like we were an inconvenience to them by even being there(we just wanted to eat & leave, we were not«camping out»). All of that aside, we still enjoy the restaurant and go frequently. There was one thing that was quite concerning on our most recent visit a few days ago– and that was the mayonnaise and mustard that was brought to the table. We noticed that the mustard was an odd color and that the mayonnaise & mustard both had a liquid floating at the top of the bottle(looked like cloudy water, not oil). This was brought to the attention of the waitress and she brought us a new set, that looked exactly the same. I worked as a waitress for 7 – 8 years, and I know that is not normal for condiments to look that way. It honestly made my stomach queasy. Anyway, I hope that management sees this and makes sure that the employees are all following proper food safety procedures. Hopefully it was a fluke, because Dixie Diner has been a favorite for years!

The chicken fried steak is excellent as is the cream gravy. The vegetables, salads and other sides leave a lot to be desired.

I just found a new place to eat in Texarkana: The Dixie Diner. Bryce’s Cafeteria was closed on Sunday afternoon, so I turned to Unilocal to find an alternative. Unilocal led me to Dixie Diner. I assumed it was part of a local chain, but that seems to be not the case. I am a sucker for liver and onions. And when I saw it on the menu, my resolve to get a veggie plate crumbled. I am glad it did. The full portion came with two slices of perfectly cooked, freshly grilled liver. There was a dish of brown gravy on the side, the perfect accompaniment in which to dip each tasty bite. My two sides of turnip greens and mashed potatoes were exactly what one expects and seldom gets. Be warned: Dixie Diner is easy to find on Kings Highway, less than a block north of I-30, on the west side of town; this fact, however, seemed to elude the GPS in my mobile device. Fortunately, after a short wild goose chase, I found the restaurant. I am glad I did. I am now pleasantly full and ready to hit the road again.

Fantastic liver and onions! I get this on the way home sometimes too and hit the drive thru! Great home town cooking. Not a romantic spot though.

Awesome place! We were passing through Texarkana and decided to try Dixie Diner. We were welcomed with a smile and served by Kim(she gave us the sweetest, best service we’ve had in a long time). We started with a huge basket of rolls & cornbread, then chicken fried chicken with an abundance of sides to choose from. I highly recommend the pinto beans. Large portions, great price, delicious food! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here!

We were cheerfully welcomed, seated, and served by Brianna, who just did an excellent job and was charming and refreshing to visit with. Our food was very good. Every dish had a great taste to it. My wife had the small portion of the chicken fried steak, which I regretted after I tasted it. If she’d got a larger portion, I could have eaten a little more. She had green beans and greens. She said they were very good. I ordered bacon-wrapped chop steak, green beans and a twice-baked potatoe. The steak was tasty and plentiful. The beans were fresh and tasty. Even the potatoe had a really good taste. The rolls they bring out are delicious. Butter and honey, oh, my! I ended the meal with strawberry pie. Usually I’m not a big strawberry pie fan, but the comments on Unilocal and the scrumptious look of it in the display case as we walked in convinced me. Best strawberry pie I’ve ever eaten! There were a lot of locals eating there, and obviously regulars. Many were greeted by name as they came in. I heartily recommend this diner. Ask for Brianna, and tip generously!

Dixie Diner is my favorite restaurant to eat at. I love their food. Especially their rolls. I dip them in honey which is super sweet and I love super sweet stuff. I haven’t been in a while, so I don’t remember what I usually get. I think I just eat the honey rolls. Their decorations are really neat. The money on the ceiling, the license plates, and the cool pictures all over the wall is just cool. The only con about the money is somebody could break in and steal it. Dixie Diner’s service is good, but it could be better. It is kind of slow, but luckily I have patience unlike a lot of people in my family. The waiters and waitresses are incredibly nice. They try to get stuff done as quick as possible.

I stopped by for a late lunch(2:30 pm) and they were open and serving. I ordered the whole chicken breast lunch for $ 11.59(half is $ 8.59). It took 15 min to cook and what I received was a 6 oz chicken breat with two sides(black eyed peas & green beans). The green beans smelled and tasted awful so I sent them back. The cornbread was good. But that is the most expensive chicken breast I have ever eaten for lunch in Texarkana? Also, please fix the latch in the mens bathroom stall for some privacy!

We love this place. Almost everything is fried but it is delicious. I had the beef liver and onions with gravy, fried okra and a salad, which tasted like a home cooked meal. If you love Southern food you’ll love Dixie Diner.

This review is for the Dixie diner located on Kings highway in Nash, tx. The food is delicious but I rate service a one. Every time I have called in an order while in town visiting family, I’ve been rudely cut off while ordering and spoken to as if I am an idiot. The first time I asked for a soft drink that they didn’t have the woman acted as if I had asked for something absurd. The last time I drove through to pick up an order the same short haired woman rudely snatched the money from my hand and was very short with me slamming the small drive thru window each time she would hand me my food. Due to these experiences I unfortunately will not be going back. Hopefully the staff that works inside is much nicer than the chosen one they have working the phone orders and window but I will not be taking the chance to find out.

Pretty good hadn’t been here in a long time. I loved the rolls. The pot roast wasn’t that great. My husband loved the chicken fried steak and grandson loved the Irish nachos. Service was good.

Three stars plus five divided by two is four. Four stars. We go there often, and it’s mostly excellent, but once in a while it lets us down a bit. The specialty pot roast is very good but sometimes has three larges pieces of beef hiding from each other behind large chunks of carrots and potatoes. It would be more appropriately called tater roast. It’s darned fine home cooking. Try it; you’ll like it.

Good food at great prices! Too bad service was horrible. I’ve been on the road traveling for work all day. I come to Texarkana often to visit with clients. This was my first time at The Dixie Diner and I was not impressed. First off, my waitress sucked! I have plenty of room to say so too… I waited tables for 11 years and managed a restaurant for 5. I ordered the chicken fried steak with twice baked potatoes and macaroni and cheese. It wasn’t until my food arrived that the waitress informed me that they were out of macaroni. This was very frustrating, as I am set in my ways and pretty much only eat chicken fried steak with Mac n cheese, had I known they were out, I would have ordered something different. I asked for a to go box and a check. Check never came. I had to go to register and tell the cashier I was ready to pay. She then had to track down my waitress to get the check. Second off, there was a group of young(5−10yrs old) girls who were there promoting an Annie play for school or something. All I know is they were going to tables, at their request, and singing songs such as «tomorrow, tomorrow». As cute as it was, I had a splitting headache. I know restaurants are noisy places but children singing(not good singing mind you) was very annoying. The minute my meal arrived I had to ask for a Togo box and head back to the hotel to eat, as the girls were getting on my nerves. Not to mention one young girl aimlessly wandered into the booth in front of me and sat backwards in the seat and just starred at me while I nibbled on food. No parent was minding this child at all. Overall, it was good food at a great price. I will give them another shot when I am back in 2 weeks. But if its a bad experience again, then I will never return, nor promote their establishment to any of my clients or coworkers who travel there on a weekly basis.

Love Dixie Diner food. I grew up in a small country town where café food was a staple. It’s great to be able to get a home cooked meal without destroying my kitchen. Chicken fried steak is crazy good. Desserts are worth springing for!!!

Food — 4.5 stars The meal started off with bottomless sweet tea … I like the Dixie diner’s version as it wasn’t brown-colored tea syrup … it was sweet and refreshing. Next up was a basket of freshly made cornbread and yeast rolls. The cornbread had good«heft» and was again, sufficiently sweet to taste good, but still be used to sop up gravy or be added to soups(my wife’s favorite use). After a short wait, my entrée was served … fried cod, with sides of cabbage slaw and mustard greens. As Hee Haw’s Grandpa used to say … «Yum Tum!!!» My fish was served as one large piece. The crust was crunchy(albeit a tad bit thicker than expected) and the fish flesh was hot, flaky, and falvorful. My sides were absolutely awesome … the pickled cabbage coleslaw retained a sweet and tangy flavor(despite the absence of the white cole slaw sauce) and was still delightfully crunchy. The greens were cooked with a hint of pork flavoring … both spoke volumes about the care that goes into the dishes prepared here. For dessert, my table shared a slice of their immense portion of strawberry pie. My … my … my that was good!!! While the crust appeared to be just a traditional store-bought variety, the pie filling possessed a more-than-ample proportion of fresh strawberries to gel filling. The diner also used real whipped cream … no Cool Whip to mess up this heavenly creation!!! Décor -/Service 3.5 stars Down home country themed. Ample seating throughout … tv’s are hung from the walls for viewing, along with nostalgic advertisements and old license plates from every state in the Union(plus a few from Canada as well). Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, but she was away from our table more often than we would have liked and the relative business of the restaurant did not appear to be a plausible excuse. All in all, I would stop by here again should I be in the area, and would recommend it to family and friends that are passing through Texarkana on their way to or from Texas.
