Cal’s Jewelers

I’ve been here several times to get my watch fixed, and have been happy every time. Both the husband and wife were very friendly and informative, and the prices were very reasonable. In one case he opened up my broken watch and examined it, then cleaned it up a little and gave it back with no charge. It’s a nice family owned store, and I’d much prefer supporting a store like this than dealing with the big retailers.

Thank you Eddie. Cal’s Jewelers repaired my mom’s 105 year old clock. In fact, Eddie had to make a new part for this family heirloom, he did, and then tested this again and again over a few days before letting us know the clock was ready to return home. My mom loves hearing the tick tock tick tock, and her childhood memories are renewed. Thank you, Cal’s Jewelers — Eddie. We highly recommend the character & integrity of Cal’s Jewelers. We have been dealing with Cal’s Jewelry for many years. Over these past years we have purchased many fine jewelry items for ourselves and family members. We have also had batteries replaced and watches and clocks cleaned and repaired. Their prices have been very reasonable.
They have the highest degree of integrity, are trustworthy and honest, and do excellent work. They have always been friendly and nice and their personal attention and customer service is greatly appreciated.

I went in for battery watch replacements at $ 7 each. My mom said she gets hers done there for $ 5 each. I do think they have inconsistent pricing.
Then a week later went in to get some jewelry appraised as I wanted to sell them online and the lady was very rude. I have already been to a pawn shop in beverly hills and they said they would offer me $ 500 there. Here at Cal’s they said all my jewelry was worth nothing and scrap. She looked at me like I was a thief. I may be young but this jewelry is mine! I don’t like their customer service.
She mentioned for me to go to Alhambra Coin then said they might not give me anything since it was scrap gold and plated silver on my diamond rings.
I wouldn’t recommend going here if you want to be taken seriously. Maybe if you are an old grouch or a woman with kids they will help you. But I personally think they are racist too.

They downsized 2 ladies rings from size 7 to 4 and kept the gold cut outs. When I asked for same, they advised they «do not return» cut out gold. When I asked «why not?» …They became rattled then offered to search for same and return –but they never called back as the owner Eddie said he would.
Also, be careful with the pricing, as they do not have consistent pricing for the same work — appears they charge you whatever they feel they can get away with based what you look like and what you have for them to work on. Call them on the phone and they’ll tell you yet another price. If you question the lady out front (yes, the very rude, uppity one) she’ll immediately get defensive and start denying everything. Why do businesses like still operate like this in 2011?
In summary, CAL’S JEWELERS engages in unfair and dishonest dealings with it’s would-​be customers. Any one who dares to bring their valued jewelry to this place needs to use very high caution to avoid getting ripped off.

These amusing but nauseating reviews are comical as they are all within 45 days
or so and gushing in praise as most shills tend to do… Eddie, you could have
directed your pals to space out the their fictional accounts a little more? I stand by
my review as I call them as I see them and Cal’s great reputation faded away after
the prior owners sold the business. I live close by and involved in many local
activities and every so often hear things (not entirely favorable) about this place.

I’ve never had a problem here and I’ve taken several items in over the years. I’ve always been treated nicely. There has been a few times where they have not been able to size something for me. One involved a fire opal ring and they explained that the opal might be damaged or cracked because of the mounting. I would have been heartbroken if that happened. I trust them and they do good work.

I lost both backings for my daughter’s screw on earrings. I went to the mall and they wanted $ 35/​backing. My mother on law reminded me that Cal’s Jewelers advertises in our church’s bulletin and I should give them a try.
With two kids in the car, I was driving by and thought I’d call and ask before I got them both out and had to deal with carseats, etc. After he said he thinks he could help me, I told him if be right in, I was just parked outside and wanted to check before I got both kids out. Cal told me, «Don’t worry, I’ll come out and see if I have what you need». Cal came out and saw I needed something slightly different than he brought out, went back inside for the right items and them brought them back out. I wrote him a check for two for only $ 32!!! Less than half what they wanted at the mall.
I’m not a jewelry collector, but if I ever want something you can bet I’ll go back to Cal and give him another chance for my business!

I kind of believe Ed’s review over the other here because I went into Cal’s for some battery replacements on a couple of watches and Cal the owner was extremely rude and grumpy?! I couldn’t figure it out? He seemed really pissed off, I figured he was just having a bad day… I read a Google review and the lady (Elana) had said Mr. Cal «balked at her» and said some really nasty things! Maybe it’s time to hang your hat Mr. Cal 30yrs of business has taken it’s toll… You still have to be nice to customers, or stay in the back!

I received a recommendation from a friend and went to Cal’s Jewelers to have my engagement ring re-​set and re-​designed. The customer service was terrific and reminded me why I generally prefer small businesses over large ones. I was person, not a number, I was engaged in conversation, not rushed, I felt special, not like another wallet walking into their store. LInda was thoughtful and patient and took as much time with me as I needed. And everyone was warmly greeted when they entered the shop; they have many long-​time loyal shoppers, which comes as no surprise to me. Though the drive is not short from West L.A. to their location, I will do it every time for the customer service level and quality of work they do. I definitely recommend Cal’s.

After hearing about Cal Jewelers from a friend, I decided to make the drive from Long Beach. I found Eddie to be very professional and would like to thank him for taking the time and having patience with me while I decided which wedding band to purchase.
The drive was well worth it and it was very refreshing to receive this type of customer service. I highly recommend Cal Jewelers and will return should I need to make any additional purchases.

FIVE STARS JUST NOT ENOUGH!
I came to Cal’s looking for a custom engagement ring and not only did I get a great ring, I also found an EXPERT to repair my wife’s watch and our clock. But back to the ring, I needed to find someone to create a custom, and might I add, very complicated ring from a series of pictures my then girlfriend had. Eddie (the owner I think) took just a couple of fuzzy pictures and a description of what I thought she wanted and designed an amazing ring that was exactly what she was looking for. Even more importantly he got it done quickly and for LESS than I budgeted.
I would recommend Cal’s to anyone and everyone — in-​fact I already have. My coworker has gotten his watch fixed by Eddie and my sister-​in-​law just bought a ring from them — both of them were very pleased with their experiences as well.
