This place probably has the largest portions of meat in the gyros pita in tempe. Four stars because I haven’t tried anything else there, the presentation is bland, and there isn’t more than meat and a few tomatoes and onions in the pita; the gyros meat, however, is impeccable. Thin and crispy, but juicy and flavorful – not at all like cardboard as one reviewer put, but it may vary by batch and how long it’s been sitting. The atmosphere is terrible and the meal, as a whole, is lacking(big fat greek restaurant makes a much, much prettier pita), but Gyros Hut sells gyros by the pound and I will definitely come here when I need some at home.

I will not give a 5 star on a first date(I’m not that kind of guy) but I was pretty tempted. As the food came out I noticed that the tzatziki was not a real tzatziki. Ok not a problem as long as it tastes good. It did. Fries were frozen but the crispiest fries I have ever had without being burnt. Started poking around the giant portion of meat(get your head out of the gutter) and discovered it was huge.(Seriously? What are you, in 5th grade?) It was flavorful and not dry at all like most Gyros in town. The tzatziki was flavorful as I said before but was not a true tzatziki. I detected no cucumber or garlic but I did not miss it all. I will be coming here often. More so if you get yourself a wine and beer license Gyros Hut.

Imagine you have 3 boxes to choose from. You open one, then decide whether to return it or keep it. If you return the first and second, then you *have* to keep the third, regardless of whether or not it’s better. Well, going to Gyros Hut after Mai Island Grill feels like the 3rd box turned out to be a bag of baby poop. I faithfully obeyed my adventurous nature by trying this newest Greek place around ASU, and it turned out to be the major disappointment of my week. With hope in our hearts, the boyfriend and I ordered their Gyros and their Souvlaki. Our hopes dashed with just one look at our Gyros meat. Though Gyros Hut is generous with their meat portions… they needn’t have been. The Gyros meat reminded me of flavoured dry cardboard. However… compared with my Souvlaki, I wished for that dry cardboard back. My favourite part of the meal: the onions and lettuce. My question is: What happened to Mai Island Grill???
