I discovered the spicy Ginger Lassies at the Scottish Gathering & Games in Pleasanton last weekend. Yum! I haven’t tried any other products, but these cookies are a hit with anyone who likes ginger… but you REALLY need to like ginger :-) It’s $ 8 for a bag, but worth the indulgence for a unique treat.

Wonderful Scottish treats! I visit their booth every year at the Scottish Highland games in Ventura and/or Costa Mesa. I would recommend the Ginger Lassies for all you ginger/molasses cookie lovers. They are soft and stay together(no crumbling). It’s hard to only eat one. Also, the lemon curd is amazing. Thick and slightly tart with some sweet. The shortbread is okay. I like it, but I’ve had better elsewhere. Personally, the ginger lassies are where it is at! …Plus, it’s a very nice, family-owned company that i am happy supporting. Cheers!

Discovered these guys at a festival in Monterey today, AMAZING! Shortbread is great. We tried a bunch of the jams. My favorite were the Wicked Good Raspberry & Lemon Curd(and they are really good together on the short bread). Will definitely be ordering more when we run out…

McLaren’s has the BEST shortbread and ginger lassies we have ever tasted!!! There is no way to just have one. I’ve taken a box of the shortbread to work and it doesn’t make it past 10 a.m. before they are all gone. They have two types of ginger lassies. The original lassies are the ones with the spicy kick at the end. They are absolutely addicting. The jams are also yummy delish!!! The Pirate Peach & Rum is to die for.

One word: YUM-MY!!! I found McLaren’s at the Harvest Festival in San Mateo. SUPER friendly booth selling shortbread, ginger lassies(ginger cookies) and other goodies. They have two kinds of ginger cookies– regular and spicy! The spicy ones have cayenne pepper that don’t kick your butt until a few seconds after biting into it! Unique and great change up to the traditional ginger cookie! I like that they are chewy and soft instead of crisp! I bought 2 spicy and 1 non-spicy. When I got home, my non-spicy bag had half spicy cookies. I contacted McLarens and right away got a response and they sent a new bag of non-spicy. How cool is that??? Definitely amazing cookies and will buy from again! Pretty pricey($ 8/bag) but a great treat!

McLaren’s is a locally based company that makes incredible shortbread, ginger cookies and homemade jams. I discovered these guys at the Sunday farmers market at COC. While I love their jams, the star of the show is their shortbread. It is hand made from an old family recipe(or so the legend goes). To top it all off, they are nice folks that really put a lot of heart into their products. They do larger orders or sell by the box at the Farmers market, where they also give out free samples. The shortbread is just wickedly good, so be careful or you will eat a whole box in no time.
