Closed oh no. I’m going to miss this place. I’m going to have codfather withdrawal. Sorry to see it go. They had good food at great prices.

The wife wanted to try clam chowder while we were visiting my family in MA for the holidays, so we popped in here for lunch. We were the only customers in the small, unassuming seating area. My wife got the clam chowder, I got the blackened salmon, and my mother got the roast beef dinner. I can’t speak to the roast beef since I didn’t try it, but the clam chowder was very good, and the blackened salmon was amazing — perfectly flaky, without crumbling into a mess, and tasted delicious. I was raving about it all the way out to the car. Don’t come here on a fancy occasion, but if you’re looking for a no-​frills place with excellent service and delicious seafood, Codfathers is highly recommended.

Went there for fish and chip takeout. Loved it. The drawback was it is located in a bad spot. You have to park on the street and the night life that hangs around there, well let’s just say don’t leave your keys in the car. But if you want good fish and chips and don’t mind maybe fighting a crack addict, then this is a place you have to try.

I’ve been here so many times and it’s so amazing. Just getting the basic fish and chips is great because it tastes so good and so authentic. I love it so much. I love the cost of everything, it’s reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. The restaurant part is a little underdone and bad quality but the amazing food makes up for it. You can also just take out, which is what I normally do.

We were traveling through town and had an excellent experience! Our favorites were the fisherman’s stew and the fish and chips. Not fancy, but delicious seafood for a great price.

This is the go to place for fresh seafood in this area. Good service, casual, and the fish is cooked and seasoned perfectly. Nice sides for veggies or rice as alternatives to fries.

Terrible service. I know it’s Lent so we ordered our fish and chips at 5:58 pm. We were told 40 mins. Ok! No problem. We went in at 7pm and pay and was told a few mins. Finally at 7:20 still no food. People who ordered ahead of us were getting their orders. What the hell? We went up to the counter and got a charge back to our credit card. We got a sorry, but nothing else. Very disappointed.

Had takeout once before from here, I recalled it was better than this time around. Overall fish and chips takeout here this time around was alright. Nothing impressive, just ok. Our takeout order was a total of 4 orders of fish and chips. All of us agreed upon that it was ok, nothing impressive.

Great food. We have only gotten take out, however, there is a lot to be said about bringing home fish and chips and it still being hot, crispy and very tasty. We’ve had it a few times now and very good each time. Large portions, flaky without being greasy and not over priced. Try it, you won’t be dissappointed.

My husband and I were searching on Unilocal for a good seafood place while passing through the area and were having a surprisingly hard time when we came across Codfather’s and decided to check it out. I have to admit once we found the place I was a little apprehensive about going in — the neighborhood is pretty quiet and the restaurant itself is located in a very unassuming building. I am SO glad we stayed.
This place was definitely no-​frills: we started off with crackers and some sort of cheese product which reminded me a lot of Cheez Wiz. BUT, the seafood was fresh, cooked perfectly, and cheap! We underestimated the portion sizes and ordered the stuffed quahog, steamed mussels, fish and chips, and fisherman’s stew for just the two of us. The stuffed quahog was filled with all sorts of goodies and came in its huge half shell, the broth that the steamed mussels came in was so good that I wanted to drink it all up, and the fish and chips were fried to perfection. While all the dishes were delicious, my absolute favorite was the fisherman’s stew, which was full of mussels, clams, cod, shrimp, scallops, and sausage. The rice and tomato-​based stew rounded everything out nicely.
They also have a separate area for take-​out orders, so I’m guessing they get a fair amount of orders to go. Definitely a place I would frequent if I lived in the area.

Me likey fish and chips, and Codfathers Seafood on Weir Street in Taunton is at the top of the heap.
The first time I ate there I bought The Chefs Nightmare, which was bountiful, hot, fresh, lightly crisp and not overcooked.
Every element was cooked well and the slaw was done right too. The price was reasonable and the portion was more than satisfying to feed two. The service was pleasant and quick, and since we live around the corner we were able to get home to eat it while it was still at its best. We don’t typically eat fried foods, but we do know good fried when we find it, and we have.
The shrimp were huge and tasty. The fries were almost perfect, and the onion rings were very good. None of the seven elements were the best ever, but the total package made a far better than average seafood platter.

Codfathers has recently added a dining room after originally being a take out place only. The dining room is cozy, but I prefer to stop by on the way home and order take out. No real reason to call ahead. They are quick and fried foods are certainly best when picked up immediately.
They have expanded their menu beyond seafood, but that’s what I go there for. I have had their ribs, and while they were cooked well and had good taste, it was not for me. I’ve had the fried chicken too, and again, it was prepared nicely, but…
I want the fish.
I’m a big guy, and their portions are generous. I am more than satisfied if I order a stuffed sea hog, chowder, and a kids order of F&C.
Closed Sunday and Monday.

I’m usually always cautious when trying new seafood restaurants. I feel like the seafood closest to the water is always the best, and everything else is second best. I’m not even sure why I feel this way because there are plenty of amazing seafood spots that aren’t located anywhere near the ocean, but I can’t help but wondering: How did this seafood get here? How long did it take? How fresh is it? and from what ocean is it from?
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved Codfather’s seafood. The scollops are some of the best I have ever had. They are tender and very flavorful. The batter is light, but not so light that it crumbles the second you touch it. I LOVE whole belly clams, and theirs had great flavor, but they were a little tough. I will definitely be giving the clams another try. The cod is delicious as well. It wasn’t the best I have ever had, but i did enjoy it. The only thing that I wasn’t crazy about was the fried shrimp. I prefer my shrimp prepared any way other than fried. These were tough and lacked flavor, but if I was a lover of fried shrimp I might have liked them more. They offer many side option. If you aren’t feeling fries and onion rings, they serve rice, potatoes of all kinds, butternut squash, and other choices depending on the day.
Parking could be better (off street parking only), prices are kind of high, but if you want good quality seafood it’s worth it. Overall, the food is fresh, service is fast and friendly, and their tarter sauce is tasty.

Although the only thing I’ve ever ordered was the fish and chips, they are absolutely delicious. The fish is never overcooked, it always comes out flaky and moist. I would recommend this to anyone.

Codfather’s has the absolute BEST seafood I have had in ages. Huge fresh clam bellies, scallops, prawn, cod, etc… the absolute best. It’s very clean and the staff is friendly. You get a huge portion for a reasonable price! Definitely worth the commute if you’re in or around the Taunton, MA Area.
