This review is for our second stay at Amizette. Room #9 is the best! It’s on the second floor + looks directly down onto the river(if you keep the window open, you can sleep to river sounds all night). It’s above the dining room/lobby area, so you do hear voices from downstairs; this was not a problem for me. Caution: room 9 has several random steps(e.g. one step up to bathroom; few steps down to common room). Room 9 has a queen bed + a small sleeping nook/loft tucked above a ladder. These are not luxe accommodations; blankets are old/frayed, towels have small rips, basic toiletries(shampoo + soap) but as long as it’s clean, I’m happy. Free wi-fi, but it’s on the slow side. The room is not exactly outfitted for our gadgets(laptop, 2 cell phones), but we managed to find places to plug in. Breakfast likewise is very basic, portions small– breakfast burritos, omelettes, fried egg sandwiches, french toast, pancakes, etc.(you choose ONE). Average coffee + small selection of black/green teas. Loved the front desk staff; she was super friendly + helpful in suggesting local activities to do. Will happily stay here again, hopefully in room 9 again. Staying in the ski valley is a great bargain during the summer; 25 min from town, but Arroyo Seco is a great little town 15 min along the way.

We stayed here in June for 3 nights. We had originally booked 2 nights but we enjoyed it so much we had to extend our stay! The owner, Jim, and his family are extremely friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are charming and overlook the Rio Hondo river, which rushes by your window at night. The breakfast is reason in itself to visit: delicious and plentiful. Personally recommend the breakfast burrito, the French toast and the pancakes! Just a mile from the central plaza of the ski valley where there are lots of hiking trails during the summer months.

I’m reluctant to recommend the Amizette Inn B&B for selfish reasons. I want to keep this place for myself. But duty calls. My wife and I wanted a getaway from the Texas heat and found the Amizette through Trip Advisor. We took a chance and I’m glad we did. First, a caveat. We went in the off season and had the place pretty much to ourselves. There are plenty of pros and maybe one con. The con is that all the beds are queen sized and if you happen to be very tall or large that might be a problem. No a problem for us, though. Now the pros. Excellent hospitality. Jim, the owner and Morgan, chief cook and bottle washer both went out of their way to not only make us feel welcome but also at home. The Amizette is an old lodge with some history. The rooms are comfortable but not lavish. Each room has a view of the Rio Hondo and wooded mountain. The dining room has an even better view. Birds and wildlife come right up to the large window to feed. The included breakfast is a lumberjack’s delight. Cooked to order omelettes, pancakes, grainola, sausage, bacon — you get the picture. Killer local coffee. The Amizette is at mile 13 on the Taos Ski Valley Road. You can’t(and shouldn’t) miss it. Oh, and the prices are more than reasonable. Possibly the best kept secret in the valley.
