Burger not worth the cost. Ordered regular fries and they gave the large order… didn’t realize until I got the $ 3 bill for it, raising total for burger and fries(ala carte) to almost $ 14! WAY too much. Ordered it med rare and it came cooked correctly, BUT must have been an 80% meat because VERY greasy. If you like greasy burgers, mediocre buns, and high cost then go for it. Recommend they do with a ciabatta bun.

We were in Taos for a few days, with the goal of eating as much amazing chile as humanly possible. And one item on that list was ‘The Green Chile Cheeseburger’. Now, we have our old school, tried and true that we almost always head to(‘itsa’ little further south down the road), but in the nature of switching things up we decided to try something new… 5 Star came up again and again as best green chile cheeseburger… so we went. When we pulled in the parking lot my gut told me to carry on to our usual, but I stuck with the plan to try something new… I was pleasantly surprised with the cute interior, real plates/silverware, heck they even had cloth napkins. There was also a nice beer list with some good local brews. We ordered ‘The Green Chile Cheeseburger’, side salad and fried green chile strips to share. Here’s the deal… the food was really good. Quality burger. Really nice side salad with great blue cheese dressing. Super crispy fried green chile strips. Here’s where this place failed… the green chile was a mild as a bell pepper. Green chile needs a little heat to bring out the flavor. Not face melting hot, but a little something. Needless to say, it was completely lost on the burger. So, while this is a decent burger joint, was it ‘The Green Chile Cheeseburger’ we dreamed of? The one we will rave to our friends about? The one we will plan future trips to NM for? Sadly, not even close.

I hate burgers. I always have. Always. However, it’s something I’ve always –wanted– to like. I’ve tried many, many burgers in my life and travels attempting to find a burger that I like. I’m talking real burger — hefty, sustainable sourced beef… none of that awful fast food crap, ever. Still, in my whole life I never found a burger I liked — until I moved to Taos a couple years ago. I decided to try 5 Star Burgers. I put it off for awhile because I was judging a book by the cover and the cover looked like a crappy fast food joint(sorry!). When I finally went inside and gave it a shot I knew — the search was over. I crave their burgers, all of them(and I’ve tried all of them). I regularly order it for take out(the fastest way to get it in your belly if you’re hungry!) and occasionally opt for a date night with my husband at their bar. Oh, and their sweet sauce for the sweet potato fries is amazing. The beer selection is right my alley. The reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is because of their service. If you’re lucky enough to get seated at the bar rejoice! because that’s the only place to get quick, consistent service. The few times I’ve been seated I had to wait a very long time for service, then once I had service a very long time for any continued service. There was even a time I went there and stood at the hostess booth for nearly 10 minutes before someone took down my name for the seating list… this place is very small, it shouldn’t take that long. As I said, food is amazing, I now love burgers, but only their burgers and if you’re starving order take out or pray for a spot at the bar.

Went here for lunch, and the food was good. I’m giving it a 4 because when I asked our waitress about the local beers, she couldn’t really tell me anything because she didn’t like beer. Then when I asked about a specific burger, she couldn’t tell me how it was because she was a vegetarian. She then offered my 10 yr old double patties on his sliders because it would be a «perfect portion» for him, then served him single patties. Once she delivered our food, that was it. She never came back, and other employees cleared our table and brought the check. The food we ordered was tasty, and we really enjoyed the burgers, but the service wasn’t great.

I had the Taos burger, it was good, but if I had to do it over again I’d have gotten the green chile cheeseburger my husband got. Get the sweet potato fries and maple cream sauce!

Love the patio area with the. Prayer flags, too cold, so I sat inside, staff was friendly and burger came out fast, wish I had time to try one of the others, wasn’t crazy about the burger of the month. Maybe next time?

Had an awesome foodie experience! I ordered the GBB burger(smoked gouda, bacon, and bbq sauce) so yummy. Onion rings and house salad were both tasty, i enjoyed the honey lemon dressing. When we go to taos again, were stopping for burgers!

Absolutely the WORST service I have ever had! Went to dinner never got no silverware or napkins, asked the bus boy for some had them thrown in my plate after I said I could help pass them down. Talked to the manager who could careless about the situation and tried to make excuses for the poor service. The sad thing is that this is the second chance we have five star at a different location and this was far worse than the original time. Last time we will be dining at 5 star!

Recently relocated to Taos and have now eaten here twice. Burgers are excellent and cooked to order. Cheeses and toppings are very fresh. When the weather permits, sitting outdoors with mountains as a backdrop is very nice.

As soon as we walked in we where surprised at the awesome atmosphere for a burger place. The food came very fast and our waitresses was very king, and helpful. As well as everything gluten free. The burgers where PERFECT, juicy and very tasty. I would recommend this to anyone.

The beef is freshly ground from Harris Ranch. It was excellent beef! The burgers are served on a brioche bun. I built my own burger and added Swiss and avocado. It is served with green chile mayo that was good. We ordered the five star fries and they were fresh and hot just like I liked. They serve all local beer on tap. Nice casual place to come and eat.

Living in Albuquerque, we have our own 5 Star Burgers that opened here a few years back. I have heard a lot of hype about 5 Star Burgers, although I’ve never actually made it there. However, I have also heard the one in Taos is better than the one in Albuquerque. I was up here on business, with an expense account to test drive the place, so here we go! I started off with the green chile strips, they were very good. Excellent, if you will! I have been to several places that try to do fried green chile strips. They are usually being more overdone and just generally one of those things you regret. These were not the case. They had a good coating of cornmeal on them and gave them a nice texture. The chiles were hot but not so hot that they lost their flavor. They came with two different dipping sauces, one was ranch and wanted ever can really figure out because the green chile kind of overpowered. It was a good complement; it just made it difficult to ascertain exactly what the sauce was. For my burger, I struggled between several choices on the menu I got little help from the server, when I listed three choices, and said I’m struggling between these three, and she picked a fourth burger altogether! Oh well throw a dart, if you must. I had the five-star burger. That name sake of the restaurant. I must say I was a little disappointed. For starters, the burger did not come with fries or a side. Big picture, that’s a good thing, as I had already had the green chile strips. However, if I had not, I would’ve been disappointed to find out I didn’t get fries. I understand the whole sides are extra concept like at a fancy restaurant. But, it would have been nice if the server told you. I probably would’ve gotten the fries anyway just to try them. I’ve heard their sweet potato fries are fantastic! The burger itself was all right. The namesake, five-star burger, is your typical bacon with bleu cheese crumbs on top. However, I commend them for making the smart choice in going with Gorgonzola. Gorgonzola is a much creamier cheese that although not as pungent as bleu cheese, it has a creamier texture in your mouth when put over warm items. I know this seems like it’s splitting hairs, but I’m a food guy, so what you expect? The bacon negated whatever points scored by the Gorgonzola. It was not the juicy strips of bacon that are cooked but still had that kind of soft texture to them. No, this bacon was a little overcooked and then crushed up like broken chips on my hamburger. Frankly, it was a bit of a disappointment. Many people write their review of a burger based on the flavor of the burger. Sometimes, it’s easy to overlook the meat and bread itself. To be, this is where 5-Star earns it’s five stars. The meat was cooked perfectly and the bun was a fantastic. The service was good, although the place was a little small — at the tables were put together a little closer than I would like. Fortunately the guy sitting next to me was a really nice guy, and we may hang out together again sometime soon. Overall, with three trips to Taos in recent times under my belt 5 Star Burgers has been the best so far. The only advice I would give based on my trip this week would be to avoid the bacon. You will find that the bacon does not have as many stars as the rest of the experience.

I am going to say something that this place offers that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Green Chile Mayonnaise. That’s right, in case you don’t get your green chile fix with the multiple offerings, they’ve got this mayonnaise that rocks. I hadthe five star burger and it was bueno topped off with the green chile strips :). It was such a satisfying meal after the long day we had. In our party 3 people order shakes with their burgers and they couldn’t be more pleased. The side of fries was ok, could of had a little more. Next time I go, I’m having a shake.
