When my 2 year old unit stopped working, the repairman Action Air sent ito my house informed me that I needed a new capacitor. The current capacitor was replaced less than 3 months ago under warranty, because the original only lasted 7 months. When I asked if it was still under warranty, the repairman told me that my warranty expired 4 days ago. After speaking with a manager, she informed me it was longer than that. She was extremely condescending and refused to work with me to resolve the situation. Between the two of them, it was the worse customer service I have experienced in my 12 years in Tampa. After having another company come out to do the repairs, they told me Action Air had used a cheap part made in China and tried to charge me almost four times what the repair ended up costing me. I would never use their service again.

Absolutely Unethical company. My 80 year old father placed a $ 500 deposit for a new system, but rescinded one hour later as we found a few other companies that would do the work for $ 1000 less. They would only refund $ 485 of the $ 500 being frustrated they did not get the job. Fact is a transaction can be voided the same day without them being charged any fees. They state that they were charged $ 15 for running the card, I know this to be false as I work in the merchant industry. In addition this company charges more for parts than many other companies’. Obviously not the money here but the principle. Hard to find companies you can trust nowadays especially when dealing with seniors, this is not one of them. Buyer Beware! Lesson: treat all customers and potential customers with respect and honesty.

Action Air installed a Trane 2.5 ton system(heat pump and air handler) and duct work in my father’s home 11 years ago. Just the other day, the air handler made some clicking noises and the air conditioner stopped working. When he called Action Air, they sent a gentleman(being my term for«con man») to find out the reason for the failure and provide a quote. The man from Action Air came in, inspected the system and said that the air handler’s variable speed motor and control module(ECM) were bad and needed to be replaced. He quoted $ 1,200 to replace the motor and $ 800 to replace the ECM; a total of $ 2,000 to fix the unit. Then, he started pushing for a replacement of the entire system at $ 5,500. He said that these models weren’t really supposed to last much longer than 10 years and that it was time to replace it.(Not true.) When asked about the price discrepancies between the install 11 years ago and the one on the quote, Action Air’s man said, «I’m just going my the book.» What book, where? There is no book. Ask him to show it to you. He is lying.(More on this later.) My father got the two quotes from him, one for repair and one for replacement, and sent him on his way. I know that the average cost of the motor and the ECM were about $ 400 each(a total of $ 800). That means that Action Air wanted to charge my father $ 1,200 in labor for less than two hours worth of work. Some of the best lawyers in our city don’t make $ 600 per hour. I advised my father to get other estimates and tell Action Air to go pound sand. The next day, he called Chris from A&C Air to come look at the unit.(Chris was referred to him by a coworker.) Chris arrived on time and was friendly & professional. He opened up the air handler and confirmed that it was the motor and ECV that needed to be replaced. On an interesting note. The«technician» from Action Air left the ECV and motor disconnected from the Air Handler after he left. He basically took it apart and left the pieces lying around. Regardless of the fact that it wasn’t working properly, I consider this to be highly unprofessional. Chris said that he just did a similar repair a few days prior and that the parts were a combined total of $ 830. He quoted me this price off the top of his head as he was in our attic inside the air handler. Since his price was almost the same cost of the parts that I obtained online, I knew he was being honest with me. He said that he could do the labor for about $ 200. That is a fair price. This included the service call, the install, and the parts for about $ 1,000; HALF the price of the quote by Action Air. Chris finished in about an hour and and 45 mins and that included checking the rest of the system.(It’s nice and cool in the home right now.) When I told him what Action Air pulled, he explained a few things to me. Only the business owner has to be licensed in the state of Florida. The yokels that come to the house to «service» the unit are more often than not, just«sales technicians»(con men). Action Air and similar businesses prey upon unsuspecting customers by getting them to agree to their hyper-inflated prices and then performing the work before the customer has a chance to change their mind. Once you agree to have them do the work, you’re screwed because they will charge you and the contract is then binding. This is why they take such a long time to generate a quote. They go out to their truck and talk to the owner, Russell, who tells them how much to overcharge for the work. Then when you ask about problems with their pricing, they say they’re just going according to «the book». There is no book. If there is a book, then they CERTAINLY aren’t going by it. I googled«is there a book for HVAC labor cost» and clicked on the first result. Here’s the answer. «Typically range between: $ 99.00-$ 150 Hr. Some companies may charge a service charge plus a portion of the hourly rate: Usually in 30 minute increments.» So, for what Chris charged me, $ 100 bucks an hour for a total of $ 200 in labor; that is fair. For what Action Air wanted to charge at $ 600 an hour for a total of $ 1,200 in labor; it’s unconscionable. Remember, you are UNCOMFORTABLE when your AC or heat is out. You are more inclined to make stupid decisions when you are uncomfortable. Is a day or two of discomfort really worth thousands of dollars? Get someone that you can trust, and who doesn’t engage in predatory practices. «By Living his motto „Honesty, Integrity and Reliability is what we stand for“ David has achieved phenomenal success and is one of the top 10 Trane dealers on Florida’s West Coast.» No. By cheating hardworking people out of their money, David Russell has inflated his sales of Trane units and tarnished the Trane brand. I wish I could give Action Air negative stars. They don’t deserve even the one that I’m forced to give on Unilocal

I have used Action Air for over 10 years for my annual maintenance. Recently I had the compressor fan go out and called them for a repair. The usual guy came out and installed the fan in about 20 minutes and charged me $ 600! I questioned the price and he told me that’s what the book says. He used an after market fan which was cheaper than a trane one which he said would be close to $ 1000. I went in and checked the prices online and the fan retailed for $ 130 or less. The next day I called other servicers and got quotes which ranged from $ 350-$ 400FORTHETRANEFAN! They didn’t recommend the one he put in. After calling and looking for a little refund for overcharging me the manager would do nothing but repeat that I had ok’d the charge. They also rip you off by pushing an annual maintenance contract on you that does nothing but gives you 10% off repairs. In my case, the tech hadn’t even taken the discount off. I had to remond him. The original bill was even more! Too many good firms out there. Stay away.

I was promised that a technician would be at my home to repair my AC. I was told they would be here after 12pm. Six hours later after not hearing from them and too late to make alternate plans, I called them. They still promised to be here by 8 pm. I did not get a call back and no one showed up, so I am stuck another evening without AC. Without meeting the techs, I have to say their service sucks”…

Another great experience on the path to a new high efficiency heat pump plus variable speed air handler. I invited the action man to our house for a bid. He showed on time, pulled out his shoe covers and went at it. 10 mins later he was done. No Schedule J load estimate… the Action man does not need such lowly engineering crutch… he Just Knows! Makes sense… after all he is the Action Man! The icing on the cake: He left his curriculum vitae with his exorbitantly high bid. It states that he is married for 13 years, has two daughters: Allison and Ashley, and that he likes spending time with his family. When I read it, I immediately trusted the guy and signed up for their special $ 10,100 deal.he.he…just KIDDING! It seems this style is becoming the norm in our parts, unfortunately… the Action Man is taking over!
