I actually found this place on Unilocal looking for a good lunch place and they did NOT disappoint! They’re located in a plaza which was a little off putting but I didn’t realize until we arrived that they actually have w relatively cute/spacious patio area! My friend got the Smokin on rye and I got the Mac on sourdough and they were both SOOO delicious! I have to say I favored the Smokin but both were great. It’s an order at the counter place but the employees were so sweet and she even brought my dog a little bowl of water on the patio when they realized we had brought him. I will be back for sure!

Great hidden gem off Mahan. Had the Turkey Club melt with a side of the Gouda Mac n Cheese. Both excellent. So worth going for lunch. Headed back soon to try breakfast. They have Lucky Goat coffee as well for those who are into that.

I’ve dined at Freshroots on several occasions and have yet to be let down. Their hot sandwiches are all good, especially on sourdough bread. I’m also a big fan of their cold slaw and especially the gouda mac n cheese(it’s so good they put in on one of their sandwiches). I do agree that they can do more with the décor… they inherited a pretty drab vinyl composition tile floor that resembles a doctor’s office. If «wood look», vinyl plank was laid down over it, I think the place would look much better. Another plus is that they offer Lucky Goat hot and iced brewed coffee(another great addition to the Tallahassee food scene). I only wish that they were open on weekends… the eggs benedict sandwiches are excellent as well. This place is definitely a hidden gem… go check it out!

Stopped in for lunch ordered the club on wheat berry and a great cup of lucky goat coffee. Both were excellent! Will definitely return when in the area again.

I ordered smoked salmon melt and it was good. My favorite though was the street corn that you can add to any meal for $ 2.

Flavorful food + Clean + Quick and Good service = All I can really ask for in an establishment While the space is lackluster and lacks character(almost sterile looking ambiance) the service was great and the food packs a punch of flavor. Went in for a quick lunch half an hour before the place closed for the day(lunch service only) so we expected being rushed out the door but instead were greeting by a friendly cashier ready to answer my 1,000 questions. Menu has good variety for meat and non meat eaters alike. They make their sandwiches and salads so that they are able to stand on their own, which is a very impressive feat. They put a spin on traditional/classic dishes and it’s enough to give them a unique flavor. Everything tasted like it was made with fresh ingredients and even the heaviest side was light(baked gouda mac and cheese) without being overbearing on a hot spring day.

Ordered the smoked salmon BLT. The salmon was fresh. Went there around 2 pm, quiet and not crowded.

How can this get so many stars? It is modest and uninspired. The décor is depressing. Nothing wrong with the ingredients, just the way they were put together. Addendum: the coffee was indeed wonderful.

Quite possibly the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had. I tasted everything I asked for plus the wheat berry slices of bread were delicious. I wish I knew about this place sooner. Perfect for a quiet breakfast or lunch or gathering of friends and at a decent price. Highly recommend this place… you won’t regret it!

Well, hello little treasure. I don’t know how many times I’ve passed by here since they opened about a year ago and I had never tried them until now. To my delight, it is such a nice and well organized joint. The menu has many things to offer for everyone and ITISSOOO yummy!!! I couldn’t believe how a simple melt, I had the«bacon, egg and cheddar melt» plus avocado in sourdough, could taste so good. Usually I have a problem with melts because they’re either too burnt, or not crispy enough, or too greasy, or the cheese didn’t melt, but this one was YUMMY! Even my hubby’s scrambled omelette was very yummy, I’m not sure what they add to their foods or how they cook them but they definitely have me wanting to go back.

I struggled with this review as so many folks I know, and so many reviews have raved about this in their reviews. I went mid week and had the Horsey. Wasn’t really flavorful as I could taste the beef and the jack, but all the zesty items, like the onions and the horseradish aioli seemed to be missing or too light to taste. It was more like a plain philly married to a grilled cheese sandwich, if that helps describe it. I ordered a drink and a bag of chips to go with it. Woman at the counter was nice and the restaurant was really clean with everything in it’s place. It was very quiet in the restaurant, which struck me as different. Didn’t seem to affect anyone as folks there seemed to enjoy the quiet lunch on a weekday. I gave it four stars for all the right things they had going on, and I am sure I just ordered this on an off day. I also hear breakfast is the time to go, with large omelettes and such. Maybe I’ll check them out another time and write an update then.

Large selection of fresh choices. Soups, sandwiches, and salads. Good place for comfort food. My friend and I split the Horsey and the Club. We thought that the sandwiches could use a little more«oomph». Good flavor, but were missing something. Spoke to management and they were great. Appreciated our comments. Really seemed like he cared. Definitely check it out!

The Freshroots Kitchen was kind of hidden in a plaza and is part of a building that offers some medical services. But I was glad I found it and had lunch at the place with some friends. The place is like a nice, cozy, small place where the menu is posted on a huge board to your right as soon as you walk in. My friends and I came in during lunchtime and it took me a while to choose which melt to order since there were so many to choose from. You also have the option of creating your melt or salad. I ordered the Italian melt and a caramel latte. The caramel latte tastes great. It was not too strong or too sweet. It also came in a to-go cup. The Italian melt had chicken, tomatoes, and cheese(i forgot which one) and I managed to finish all of it. It was very filling and I would want to come back to this place again to try the other kinds of melts on the menu. Two of my friends got the tomato bisque and they enjoyed very much but they told me it is kind of spicy.

Sorry for the tardiness of this review. This was my first visit to the Freshroots Kitchen. I had the a Cuban sandwich for lunch. They did not have not Cuban bread but I substituted sour dough bread in its place. This worked out very well. The Cuban came with Ham, Garlic Aioli, Dill Pickle, Dijon Mustard, and Melted Provolone. The atmosphere was casual with music playing in the back ground at a low volume. The staff were very nice and the food came out quick. They give a military discount and are working on getting set up for a Law Enforcement discount. They are located on Facebook for more information on this establishment. I will be back to this place in the future.

I’m obsessed with Freshroots Kitchen! I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to eat off of both their breakfast and lunch menus, and I’ve never been disappointed. Freshroots offers a ton of forward-thinking selections, mostly sandwiches and salads. Everything feels fresh, thought out, and creative, and I love their bread options(I like to order wheatberry). Their sides are great, too — offering offbeat selections to the standard fries, like tomato bisque and gouda mac and cheese. It’s not just great food, they’ve also partnered with Lucky Goat Coffee and offer their iced coffee on tap, which is a personal favorite of mine. The only tiny downside is that it’s sort of in a medical complex? But the interior design and layout allows you to totally forget that you’re next door to a doctor’s office, and it’s 100% worth the visit.

Absolutely worth the hype and 5 stars. The restaurant is bright, airy, and spotlessly clean. The patio is situated nicely so that you hardly notice the cars on Riggins Road. And the breakfast sandwiches are outstanding, especially the egg, avocado and bacon jam on toasted sourdough. I’d drive miles just to get more of the bacon jam. I only wish that they had some sort of sides like potatoes, or fruit to accompany the sandwich. Even a small salad would be nice and would leave the sandwich less naked on the plate. And the Lucky Goat coffee is a nice touch. Note to tea drinkers: they don’t sell hot tea; only iced. I also think we should start a write-in campaign to have them open for breakfast on the weekends. That’d make it much easier for those of us who work on the west side to be able to enjoy their food more readily and more often.

Bottom line: EXCEPTIONAL breakfast & lunch menu. Exceptionally creative, exceptionally prepared, exceptionally presented, exceptionally thoughtful. Freshroots merits an update from me, largely because we find ourselves headed to this gem of a restaurant over and over again. The wife & mother-in-law LOVE it, and I certainly understand why. I find myself grinning foolishly after polishing off a meal here myself. The menu items are top-notch, and their ingredients are clearly laid out on the chalkboard menu by the door. If you’re persnickety and need EVERYTHING to go your way, they’ll accommodate you too. At the bottom of the chalkboard, you’ll find the«create your own» forms that you can fill out. In other words, you can go ahead and be the chef here. I still like it that not that many folks know about this place — that doesn’t help the ownership here, but it means that it still gets to feel like«our place that isn’t yet overrun by everybody». Particular items I like are: 1. The Lucky Goat Coffee — specifically the cold-brew. It’s just good. if you haven’t tried this before, treat yourself. 2. The App. It’s every bit as good as Panera’s app(Panera, mind you, is a large multinational corporation. Freshroots, mind you, is a small uninational operation…) 3. Eggs Benedict.(not«The Freshroots Benedict», not«Fabuloso Benedicts» — just straight-up Eggs Benedict). Oh, and for only $ 6.00. Go figure out how to get poached eggs for that price anywhere else in town. Heck, some menus make it clear they«don’t know how to poach no eggs…» 4. «The Smokin’» — it’s my favorite sandwich(Salmon). I’ve had others(Horsey, Italian, Buffalo, Cuban, Dipped) and they’re all great. I just have a penchant for the Salmon. Anyway — we went again for lunch today, and I just couldn’t NOT update the review here. If I left anything out, it’s likely in my previous one(stuff about vegan fare, etc.).

Bacon jam. Mother lovin’ bacon jam! This is why I’m updating my review. The Bacon Jam, Avocado and Egg sandwich on Sourdough bread may be one of the best breakfast sandwiches in the Sunshine State. Loads of bacon jam — salty, crisp, kind of sweet — spread beautifully across fresh, creamy avocado make for the perfect pairing. The crisp sourdough has a buttery flavor which goes unmatched. Hold the phone. Drop the phone. Hang up the phone. Whatever you do with phones in situations like this, do it immediately! Freshroots, you’ve done it again. Oh, and they now have a 10% off check-in offer! Seriously, what are you waiting for?!

Really good breakfast. Had the eggs Benedict, which is a steal at $ 6. The décor is a little institutional feeing, but the product is good, the coffee is lucky goat, and the people are nice. They’ve got outside seating that’s covered, which is something frequently lacking in Tallahassee. Looking forward to trying lunch here and making breakfast here routine. Hopefully Tallahassee will support good food even if the location is a little out of sight and out of mind.
