The girl at the counter charged me $ 4 cash for a single scoop ice cream. After finishing the entire cup, I realized the price for the ice cream should have been $ 3.75. Girl, why steal my money when I already gave you a tip?

KC has earned a lifetime fan in our little girl Emma. Without going into details she went above and beyond to put a smile on her face. Customer service alive and well at this little shop. Ice cream, ice cream, we all scream for ice cream. Well done KC, well done!

The pour over coffee is pretty good but every other mixed coffee beverage is a joke. Tried to get iced mochas and the barista just poured coffee into a cup full of ice and added a squirt of chocolate. I could’ve done that at home for a fourth of the price. Also the cashier didn’t know the exact prices of the products in front of the register. 1⁄5 for service, 2⁄5 for coffee, 4⁄5 for the cool outsourced hand made mugs.

This coffee shop was just waht I was looking for in Tahoe City. I wanted to take a break from being out on the Lake and just have a quiet place to sit and sip coffee. Service was perfect and all I needed was a house coffee .or 2! The WiFi worked well and these was no rush to push me out. The seating is nice and it was a good way to pass some time before heading back out on the Lake.

This is a pretty straight forward place. I came for a good pour-over and that’s what I got. The gentleman behind the counter said he had only been there a few weeks, but he was very knowledgable about the area and about the different roasts he had there. I got their sumatra roast which was good, not the best I ever had. All the people in there were nice and welcoming.

$ 4 per scoop!!! Scoops are small. And service was not friendly at all!!! Come to your own conclusion.

It seems everyone should know by now, especially shop keepers, that no sales tax is charged on food in California. Sometimes Gear & Grind charges on coffee beans and sometimes not. Recently they have been charging and the fellow at the counter today was very rude when I reminded him there is no sales tax on food items when I went to purchase coffee beans. Tax should not be charged since the state doesn’t mandate charging for food items not prepared. Safeway next door doesn’t charge sales tax, nor does Tahoe House nor Obexer’s or others. Gear & Grind should not either.

Affordable coffee made with decent beans, quick breakfast items(we usually get the egg, cheese and hash brown on a croissant to-go), ice creams, free wi-fi, and an easy-to-access parking lot right on Main Street. New ownership last year(same people who own Moe’s BBQ down the road) hasn’t changed much of the offerings or service — still really decent and one of my favorites in Tahoe City. The other spot we rotate for quick coffee/breakfasts is the Dam Café.

My latte was so bad that I threw it away. Avoid this place if you’re a coffee snob from the city.

Good coffees, friendly service, and decent snacks. The seating could be a bit better but acceptable and the food selection was small but decent. Overall would recommend this place and look forward to coming back.

Overall this place was great. Good service, decent drinks and food, free WiFi, plenty of seating. But two things were very off-putting to me: 1. It’s currently winter, there is snow everywhere so it’s damn cold and people smoking cigarettes outside, but the door was wide open for the entire 4 hours I was there. I kept getting up to close it, but somehow it always ended up back open. I got up and closed it maybe 3 or 4 times, but got tired of it after the first hour and a half, so I stopped. It wasn’t closed again for the next 3 ½ hours. With freezing temperatures outside… why. 2. One of the staff went to sweep up a mat in front of the door. This was a good idea all the way up until it was put into practice. She stood in front of the door sweeping the debris off the mat to the ground outside. Except that the breeze from outside in combination with the dustiest mat in the world resulted in more dust being swept into the air, onto nearby tables, and into drinks on those tables as well as the eyes, noses, and lungs of every patron in the tiny shop. I really don’t think she noticed, so I don’t want to be a dick about it, just a tip for the future: take the dusty mat outside and sweep it there. Please. It is seriously unpleasant to have dust from some old mat swirl up into my mouth. I am not allergic to anything and I don’t have any severe sensitivities, but I’ve been sneezing, coughing, and my eyes have not stopped itching all day. :/ It’s really unfortunate too, because it was an otherwise really great little café.

Breakfast burrito with avocado was great! And tasty, strong pour over coffee. The perfect pre-ski meal.

Great coffee. Great music. Great vibe. 4⁄5 stars only because I was in a hurry and it took about 15 minutes to get my drink. But it was probably very busy because of the holiday weekend and it is pour over coffee. All in all, a cool place. Will definitely be coming back.

A coffee shop in the Tahoe area that does pour over! And they don’t charge outrageous price, only $ 2.50. If you are on a hurry it may be slow and not exactly inviting to sit but seems like an outstanding coffee shop. Will make sure I make one more stop here on the way back to bay area

Gear & Grind is a small coffee house specializing in pour-overs. They have a couple inside tables and seating outside on busy N. Lake Blvd. Gelato too. We tried a couple coffees and they were perfect — $ 5 for two large cups. There are books and coffee-related items for purchase.

During our stay in Tahoe, I had the chance to visit this place twice. I visited first time for snack one afternoon and ended up getting ice cream and cappuccino. The pistachio ice cream was super delicious and it such a wonderful treat to share. I was happy that I got a good cup of cappuccino to enjoy as well. I came back for breakfast and I got egg & cheese sandwich. However I wasn’t super impressed with breakfast as much as I enjoyed my cappuccino. This is a wonderful stop for coffee and ice cream. If you need breakfast on the go then it might be convenient for you to pick it up on the way but I would skip breakfast next time.

This is a cozy place to stop by in Tahoe with a nice selection of drinks and food(bagels, sandwiches, ice cream, pastries, etc) at reasonable prices. There’s comfy couches and chairs and even a computer if you need to use it for anything. Service was quick and friendly — there was one girl working at the time and a couple people in line before me. We did not have a problem finding free parking in the lot nearby. I ordered a large chai($ 3.50) and my friend got the drunken bear(vanilla ice cream with espresso poured over). They were both really great and perfect for the cold weather!

Stopped in here after a wintery hike/walk around Emerald Bay. Cute little space, tucked in the first floor of a building. Small, with a mix of two tops, counter seating along the walls, a lone iMac as an internet station, art lining the walls, a bookshelf with used books for sale, and I think a single small recliner. Think of taking your stereotypical coffeeshop, and shoving it into maybe 800 square feet. Super warm feeling, and there were maybe 3 or 4 others in there when we stopped in. I had a large Ethiopian — looks like everything is done pour over style, and from the looks of their equipment, they’ve been doing pour overs since before it was the trendy, go to brew method. We stuck around for maybe 20 – 30 minutes, I thought it had a good vibe — definitely a step up from the sterile, commercial atmosphere you might find at a Starbucks, and I could see fitting right in with the few folks that were around on their laptops.
