I love«The Yard»(outdoor junk area). I’ve found such good furniture pieces here for cheap… im talking like $ 5 for a shelf, $ 5 for huge wicker toy chest, $ 5 for huge area rug, $ 5 for night stands(granted the pieces I get are not that pretty-I refinish them to make them nice again-but still you wont find anywhere cheaper for well loved furniture) The yard sells almost anything imaginable… furniture, household goods, toys, home improvement type goods, doors, windows, stoves etc. The inside is where you will find a lot of neat kitchen and house items(from the 1960s-present), knickknacks, clothes, books(I picked up a children’s book just recently org. printed in 1918), clothes(poor selection for the most part honestly), purses, picture frames, lamps, nicer furniture, etc. Its a great store to find vintage stuff… and you cant beat their prices! This is the actual definition of a thrift store with real thrift store/garage sale prices… most knickknack and décor type items are $ 1 – 5, glassware and cups are just cents. And the company does a lot of good for the community by offering programs to help people get back on their feet and offering donation pickups. All the guys and gals that work here are so sweet. If you like browsing and treasure hunting this place is a good one :)

This place used to be the best thrift store in Tacoma. Unfortunately, they now sort through all of their donations and pull anything cool, unique, or of any actual value, and send it to their«eBay store». As a result, the actual thrift store is desolate and filled with items nobody wants. The«eBay store» building is open to the public if you’re interested. It’s housed in the portable formerly known as their book nook. There are cool items in there but it’s essentially an antique store. I just find it very sad that this place no longer offers that secret treasure hunt that it once did.

I’m a long-time SVDP shopper, and have always enjoyed my experiences here. We’ve found many great bargains over the years. I especially love their well-categorized(volunteer-staffed) book section — really a library. The volunteers have even offered reading suggestions! They also have an outdoor yard area where we’ve purchased everything from, shoot, I can’t remember everything, but how about a $ 5.00 stainless steel sink, that, when I looked it up online, had an MSRP of $ 1149.00? And it looks great in our kitchen. :) I just had a great experience that epitomizes the friendliness of this place. Yesterday, it appeared that a(relatively small) item was accidentally donated. I called this SVDP store; the friendly person who answered the phone took a description of the item and immediately checked with the donation people. Nope, not there, but she promised they would keep a lookout, and took my contact info. This morning I recovered the item(at home) and called the store to let them know; a different person answered the phone, but the moment I said my name and started to give a brief description of the item, he immediately knew what I was talking about. I am so impressed and pleased — I wouldn’t have been surprised if «we’ll look for it» had been just lip service. And if they had found it, they would have given it back to me, no problem. All this for(wait for it) an item I originally bought at St. Vinny’s and just hadn’t gotten around to using yet. It still had the $ 5.99SVDP price sticker on it! Hey, wait a minute! This cast iron deep-sided fryer cost more than our kitchen sink!

This store has an amazing amount of stuff outside: huge quantities of old sleeping bags and tents, kids stuff, tools, furniture, landscaping stuff. There is a lot of junk to have fun poking around in in the«yard»! There’s a good-sized indoor store, too, though this stuff has really inconsistent quality(mostly so-so with gems here and there). This is not your best bet for clothes, though they do have really good prices if you find something you like. Please note: they close really early. The yard closes at 4:30pm, so don’t try to go in the evening!

Talk about Thrift Store. SVDP is always a favorite haunt for my mother and I but this location takes the cake. I thumbed through the skirts and tops, not finding much but the Dress rack was where I really made out like a bandit. Within about 3 feet of rack space I found 3 amazing vintage dresses. All of them fit like a glove and need only minor repairing. I also found a pair of navy blue pumps, I have been looking for ages! My mother found a collection of old books her mother had read to her as a child. This location has a great size. In total we spent about maybe, 30 $ on 3 dresses, 1 pair shoes and 6 books. Not bad!
