Been coming here for 20+ years. Had my first bad experience today. The food is great, as always, with large portions and decent prices. But… Ordered a breakfast to split with my wife, having already snacked. Told the waitress we would want two plates. No problem so far. When the meal comes the owner(an older asian woman) brought the meal without a second plate and announced that there would be a charge for a second plate. «About $ 1.25 or $ 1.50.» That’s inappropriate, since it wasn’t mentioned initially, but I agreed to it. [It just seemed petty and grasping.] We frequently share a meal or a dessert for a short date, and I’ve never been charged a fee to split a meal before. But whatever. When the bill came, it had a $ 1.75 split plate fee. So I went and spoke with the owner. I politely let her know that we enjoyed the meal, but that it can offend her customers to add charges after they order, and to increase them again beyond what was promised. I was not rude or angry, just trying to let her know how it affects a customer’s opinion of a business when they have an experience like that. I had told her that ‘you want a customer to go away from your business with a good experience, wanting to return, and for $ 1.75 you are running the risk of souring your relationship with the faithful customers you need more than ever.‘ Rather than thanking me or offering to adjust the charge, she became irritated and blamed the new waitress, and then blamed her wage overhead. When I asked her to please not blame the waitress who was very nice, she became even more caustic, and started to lecture me on her needs, as though I existed for her restaurant and no other. She really didn’t get it. She blamed the waitress a third time(for not telling me at the start) and flatly refused to refund any charges(even though I had not even asked for a refund). Then she relented and offered me a quarter! Well, naturally that made everything better and now I have a super high opinion of management at The Homestead. The waitress was kind and thoughtful. I hope she finds a much better job with a good boss. I suggest she try Carrs in Lakewood. Same large portions and great attitude. She would do well there.

Nice country home setting that makes you feel at home. You get what you pay for — a home cooked meal! Has interesting items on the menu like a meatloaf omelette with cheese sauce(MacLoaf Omelette). Offers baked goods like HUGE cinnamon rolls and bread. Give their dinner menu a try even if it’s mid day. Very fresh, never tastes like their competition’s rehashed menus.

Came here for breakfast expecting the typical greasy spoon. I was really surprised at how expansive the menu is — a lot more than the typical breakfast standards. The chicken and waffles really hit the spot. Service was great and fast, no waiting for a table at 8am on a Friday.

The atmosphere is undoubtedly cheesy but, really, it’s a giant barn, you know that walking in. Service was good when we were there on a Saturday for lunch. We didn’t even have to wait for a table. Food was brought out in a usual amount of time. The food itself certainly isn’t gourmet but, agsin, you’re eating at a giant barn, no one is expecting gourmet here. I had a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream and a side of eggs. The eggs were a 2.49 add on which seems a steep upcharge for a mere side of 2 scrambled eggs. The waffle itself was very good though. Thick and the edges were crisp. It was also buried in lots of strawberries and cream. Strawberries were, sadly, very obviously from frozen. Prices were good for the servings. My waffle with strawberries and cream and side of eggs was $ 12.50. Boyfriends omelette with potatos and biscuit was $ 11.50.

The food was okay, the service was TERRIBLE! She was rude when we asked for drink refills — apparently, empty cups mean nothing. She kept asking us if we were done mid-meal, she kept leaning over everyone to place the food on the table with no courtesy, she wasn’t polite at all, she looked like she hated her life. Our first time here and definitely our last.

I went to this restaurant for a take out order and I didn’t check my food before I left. I opened my food a few hours later and it was burnt I tried to eat some of it but it just takes a little burnt stuff to mess up the whole meal. The burnt food overpowers everything! I called the so called restaurant and kevin offered a new order of hash browns instead of offering to make the whole CHICKENFRIEDSTEAKOMELETAGAIN! How TACKYANDTRASHY. NOTBOTHINGTOASKIF I’M LOCALORNOT… Fuck that!!! IMNOTGOINGBACKFORMOREBURNTHASHBROWNS!

Fast service, great food and awesome customer service. I came in and was torn between the country fried steak and pot roast. I ended up getting the pot roast and it was amazing, the brown gravy complemented the entire dish and I also had the chicken gumbo. Best gumbo I’ve had in awhile and I followed all that with a delicious piece of banana cream pie

The food is amazing, the staff is very friendly, and it has a very rustic look with a pioneer feel, I love this place. The prices are reasonable and the baked goods are delicious, I’d highly recommend this place, if its your first time here I’d recommend ordering the wagon wheel.

Comfort food that reminds me of being at my grandmas house. Excellent! We go when we just need great comfort food or want to shove our faces in delicious cinnamon rolls the size of our face. I’ve never been disappointed & don’t think I could here. Good service too!

If you want down home comfort food this is the place to come. The best country fried steak, dinner and breakfast. The best biscuits and gravy. Sandwiches are huge and filling.

Service was horrible, but food was satisfying. First off, when my husband and I came in, the entrance was packed with people waiting to be sat, which was expected for breakfast time on a Saturday. I went over to the front register to have my name put on the wait list and the two ladies saw me, but continued to have a personal conversation. I said«excuse me» politely a couple of times, but they continued to talk to each other about nothing that had to do with work. Personally, it looks really unprofessional and was rude considering they saw me there and the place was packed. Eventually, they gave me their attention when I raised my voice and said excuse me in a different tone. I put my name on the list and it took 15 minutes to be seated which was great for how busy they were. Unfortunately, it took 15 minutes to get our drink order and by then we were ready to order food. The waitress forgot to get us coffee after we ordered, so we had to remind her. The food took 50 minutes to be brought out to us. My steak and eggs was cold, but the French toast was yummy. My husband said his omelette was delicious. The waitress knew her service was horrible, so she apologized before we paid and said she was up late last night watching tv. Thanks for the honesty, but no, that is a bad excuse.

Very long service with excuses every time the server came to the table. My food was cold, my husband was served extremely burnt hash browns, and the fruit in my son’s fruit cup was molded. Very disappointed.

The food was OK, but the place is dirty. Mirrors, glass cases up front were full of smudges and fingerprints. I would not go back.

Awesome! Service was great. It was crowded and busy because it was during prime time breakfast(10ish) on a Sunday Valentine. The waitresses were checking in with the costumers. Didn’t feel left out or waiting around for someone to take our orders. The booth we were in felt like we were in a stable like a barn. The food was fulfilling. It came in big portions. Wouldn’t recommend the pancakes or waffle. It was just to thick and you would need a lot of syrup to taste it. It felt like a barn atmosphere. We just wanted to try something new. I would recommend this place to someone who do wanna adventure out.

Came in here with my dad because we were craving brunch. The place was pretty busy so we thought this place was gonna be good. The host sat us down pretty quickly however the food took forever. Like 30 min. And the waitress didn’t even come out to keep us posted about the status of the food like«sorry to keep you waiting, it’s on it’s way» or anything. Once the food came out,(I ordered vegetarian omelette while my dad ordered biscuit with gravy) the food was cold. I’m assuming they probably forgot about us. So I asked the waitress to heat up our food because it was cold. She took our plates away, microwaved it and came back. Now usually when they mess up on our orders, usually they offer their customers complimentary food like dessert, or other things. OR make the same dish fresh. Nope. She didn’t even apologize. Also the food wasn’t good either. Honestly Denny’s or IHOP is better than this place. Both food and the service. K, we’re never coming back. Then we asked for the bill and that takes a while as well. Usually I tip 20%. They’re not getting 20%. I don’t recommend this place at all. Service was slow, service wasn’t good either, and the food wasn’t good on top of everything else.
