I am not sure what happened to this place. The coffee is still good but the service has definitely slipped and the hours change on what seems like a daily basis. I started to frequent Bluebeard and Valhalla, the coffee is just as good and the hours are better.

I can’t understand why/how anyone even eats here. Never got to the food. I was meeting my girlfriend for dinner and picked Caffe Dei based on Unilocal reviews. She arrived about 10 minutes before me. The owner(?) was there, talking w/2 people, who were not even dining. My friend waited at the table the 10 minutes before I arrived; I arrived; we waited another 10 minutes. The owner never even acknowledge us! There were no other potential diners in the restaurant. After I stared at the owner for 8 of those 10 minutes she took a moment from her friends(she was bragging about how much she charged for her cooking classes w/out really showing anyone how to cook), she made some snotty remark about how we could get our own menus — this was NOT a fancy place. We grabbed menus, perused — my friend is gluten free and the menu consisted of, I think, 2 gluten-free choices which consisted of lettuce. Not being impressed w/the menu, and tired of hearing the owner brag about herself while ignoring us, we left. Had dinner at Gateway to India next door — it was excellent!

Their Sweet Lavender coffee is To Die For! OMgoodness! Total love! I love the atmosphere in there and the cozy/artsy feel!(A new artist is coming on Friday, they said, so it’s kinda bare in there now… won’t be for long.) Before I went Primal I ate there a few times and wasn’t a huge fan of the food but I’m really picky. The service can be slow and today it was like a sauna in there… HOWEVER their coffee is worth alllll of that!!! I’ve never had a bad coffee and I actually crave their lavender coffee so much I have to make the 25 minute drive in my gas guzzler(I know! Bad girl lol) just to get some! LOOOOOVE their coffee.

I thought this place was pretty cool. But at first I thought it was called caffe«die» rather than«dei». Whoops. But the reason I thought this was because I received a reincarnated jalapeño popper at this business. Explanation: Got a jalapeño popper grilled cheese, which was an excellent rendition of a jalapeño popper, in grilled cheese form. It was as if a jalapeño popper died on the outside streets(rip, but mr. popper was lost in the game) and was then reincarnated to a grilled cheese form. And I wonder, I woooonder(like that song) if this was Mr. Popper’s first choice at reincarnation, or a sheer coincidence? I asked the worker and they just looked at me funny. But anyhow, it was an excellent grilled cheese/reincarnated jalapeño popper, and the latte was pretty tasteful as well.

I came here today because of the positive Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed! Their breakfast sandwich is as amazing as everyone said it would be and they even put avocado on it for me! I also had a sweet chai latte and orgasmed in my mouth. It’s a bit on the expensive side, but completely worth it for the food quality and great customer service! Also, make sure, if you go, to check out their copy of «why is daddy wearing a dress: asking awkward questions with baby animals». I just about peed my pants from laughing!

I still highly recommend Caffe Dei as a café. Drop in, enjoy the tasty coffee and tea and the wonderful Vegan food. There have been huge problems ordering bulk coffee and tea from them for home use. For the past month they have been unable to stock our favorite tea. I stopped by on four occasions, was told each time that they would have it the following week. I go in, they don’t have it. I tried calling ahead, and they didn’t answer the phone. Total frustration. I prefer to support local businesses when I can, but I’ll go elsewhere after this.

Cute café with a good selection of vegan and wheat free pastries for those who so desire them. They were open this morning, on the fourth of July, and thank goodness– I needed coffee badly. The barista was quick, the cashier nice and listened to my rambly self, and she didn’t charge me for my cookie. There’s a 50% off deal for first time customers, maybe it was that, but for four bucks I was content. My double tall mocha was really good. Could have been a little hotter, but hey, it’s all good. I’ll come back when I’m in Tacoma!

Can I just say AWESOME customer service? Sure the coffee’s good. I’ll swing by if I’m in the area and craving a good quality americano. Sure the food is equally as good as well, a little pricey, but definitely tasty and super filling. But the customer service is on ANOTHERLEVEL! Super friendly barista’s, informative and fun to talk to. The random picture books of cats are always an added bonus too. I regret not getting the grilled cheese sandwich, since my friend had it, and the cheese LITERALLY looked like something off of teenage mutant ninja turtles. It looked so melty and good!!! Instead I opted for I think it was called«TEHOMAINTACOMA»(?) sandwich? Which was equally as amazing. Next time around I’m definitely trying out the GRILLEDCHEESE and a cup of KARMA along with my usual americano. Can’t wait to visit again: D

After having a horrible experience at Metronome I decided to drive down the street and try Caffe Dei. Unilocal can’t be wrong twice can it? After hanging out for over an hour I’m happy to say that my fellow Unilocalers weren’t wrong. Caffe Dei is a great place to grab a cup of coffee. Even though the décor if sparse, it still has a very homey feel to it. The friendly customer service and the great music selection greatly contributes to the laid back atmosphere. This is definitely the kind of place I could see myself grabbing a coffee at and hanging out for awhile. And while I’m not a vegan, the extensive vegan options are a nice plus.(Not to mention the gluten free options)

Well, people are NOT kidding about the vegan grilled cheese. It’s pretty unbelievable. If I didn’t know it wasn’t cheese, I wouldn’t know it wasn’t cheese. My husband ordered the regular cheese, and he said the vegan was even more flavorful and he’d order it next time(neither of us are actually vegan). Came in on a Tuesday around 5 pm. Only one girl was working. She said that’s how they schedule on weekdays, and right then was the busiest it had been all day(there were about 5 people in line and another few at tables). But she was super nice and brought our sandwiches to the table and even brought us napkins from the self-serve dispenser! The atmosphere is pretty open; semi-industrial chic. The tables are set far apart. Nice place; will definitely return when we are in the area.

One of my fave Tacoma places. Someone mentioned high prices? Dude, this is NOT McDonald’s. They feature organic, raw and vegan foods which are more more expensive, but better for your body. You make your decision and I will make mine ;). So I truly love their spicy mochas and my friend from Seattle meets me here to get his fix for the mocha burn. They are truly sweet people, have cool local art on the walls and a great music playlist. Go there now!

Awesome place, awesome people. This is my new favorite place in tacoma. I came here with my family yesterday and had a great breakfast/lunch. The people were super friendly and tolerant. My brother(who is a super chatty cathy) sat there and talked to the guy pretty much the entire time we were there, asking questions about the business, the building, the rent, other possible empty spaces by there for his future business… pretty much rambling on to the guy for about 45 min. My mom asked questions about the food… the kinds of mochas… gluten free options(even though she is not gluten free)…and then proceeded to tell them about the bread that she uses and that they should use it too. You gotta love ‘em. brother order the tree hugger(vegan grilled cheese) with vegan ham… i stole a bite… it was better then delicious, i was jealous until i tried my «sausage» breakfast sammy(vegan as well of course)…it was amazing. just thinking about it makes my mouth water and my tummy grumble…*as i take a moment to allow the drool to gurgle out of my mouth and dribble onto the keyboard*…let’s just wipe that up real quick and continue on. mum got the tofu breakfast scramble with vegan ham and vegan cheese… tofu scrambles are pretty common… however, this one was note worthy… sprouted tofu, sun dried tomatoes and seasoned well. after talking with the people(owners i believe)…i have made the decision to come here as often possible. when i go to visit my mum, there will be no question in my mind of where i will be eating at that day, morning, evening until 6(when they close ‚() i promise i will not break into the establishment for delicious food and coffee… i might camp outside until they open though. biding my time patiently by reading comic books by the light of the street lamps though.

I love their Picante Mocha and another one that has orange peel in it… I also love love love their grilled cheese. It’s my guilty pleasure about once a month. I’ve never paid attention to what kind of cheese they use, but I think it’s white, thick and ooey-gooey. With just a dab of mayo. They always have local art on the walls, rotating artists, and they always have kind of melancholy/freakish/meh kind of feel. kind of gives the place a dark aura, but maybe that’s what they’re going for. Service is always friendly and fairly fast.

Excellent vibe, delectable coffee and tea, bomb sandwiches and breakfast. Coffee house food can be so hit and miss. You never know what you’re walking into… well, to prepare you: drop dead meatless sandwiches. My kids love the grilled cheese — both the vegan version and regular(about $ 6). I can barely order anything besides the«meatloaf»($ 10) — it’s fantastic. Soups are very good. And everything comes out HOT. I’ve never been served cold — let alone kinda warm — food. We usually have to let it cool down. I consider this a plus. They are very nice about accommodating your needs/requests. The newish breakfast menu is nice. I look forward to being a guinea pig for all of you. The breakfast tofu scram sandwich I had the other day made me wanna come back for more… like, later the same day! The coffee is delicious and the baked goods, as everyone’s already said, are excellent. They also have vegan chocolates. A really stellar coffee house. I’m thrilled they’re here!

INice atmosphere and politics. It’s great to have a place like Caffe Dei in Tacoma that’s all vegetarian and has a lot of vegan options! The vibe is cool punk-goth but customers run the range of Tacomans and from young to old. People have interesting conversations here, too. The food is somewhat expensive($ 10 sandwiches), but you’re getting what you pay for – the good stuff. This place has the best vegan sandwiches in Tacoma. Vegan meatloaf with bbq sauce and onions or field roast and vegan cheeses? Bring it on! They have a tofu scramble and pretty good pastries. Best thing to drink here by all accounts is the mocha picante – spicy and chocolately. I used to be a big fan, but they need some consistency. Varying hours and constantly changing or sold-out menu items are frustrating for customers. And the soup is canned; I saw them carrying in the cans. Yuck. Service is often slow on food and they could use a fan to clear the air of greasy stink of cooking that lingers on customers’ clothes. Still love ya, Caffe Dei, but step it up a little and we will be loyal forever!

My heart is reserved for good coffee and great food. This place excels in coffee and teas. Plus their food is amazing! I hate that I have to mention that the food is mostly vegan, it sounds like I am making an excuse, no matter if its vegan or not, its just good! The coffee and tea are exceptional, about 90% of what they put in the drinks comes naturally, no pre-made or premixed crap involved. The grilled cheese is probably my favorite dish, next to the non-meat meatloaf sandwich. My only complaint is price, and the only reason I complain about the price is because I want to go here all the time. I love the cozy atmosphere and the attention to detail. I hate cookie cutter coffee places, especially in the NW we should know better, this place is out of the box good!
