I hate to admit it, but I came in with the worst expectations of Beyond the Bridge. I’m a snob, dammit… a dive loving snob? Yes. The clientele that usually circles BBC is not my cup of tea. I’m not into hippie coffee shops. We can all agree patchouli and espresso don’t smell so great together, right? But all snobbishness aside, I can get a good latte here, the baristas are very friendly and talented, and the vibe is happy. I liked all the signs of community outreach. I was surprised that it had traces of the legendary Last Exit(of Seattle, RIP) to it, with the games and books stashed around, aspiring philosophers at various tables, the«lived in» feel. And I was surprised to find I liked that, actually… My children like visiting BBC and I have to say, it’s a true NW coffee house in the best sense of the word. Prices are commiserate with others in the area and it’s worth a stop if you’re in the area and need a fix.

Beyond the Bridge Café is a great place to meet friends, take the kiddos for an afterschool cocoa, get some studying done. Super friendly staff makes for smiling people all around! Ben, Libbey, and Aimee brighten my day often. A purely positive spot. Great music, ambiance, and yes, you should try one of their bagel sandwiches.

It’s like the great Lord of Coffee came down from a heaven made of foamy espresso clouds and created this place just for me. I didn’t try the food(yet), and I’m not sure about the prices because my brother paid(ftw!), but the coffee was excellent, and the atmosphere was sublime. The music was a little too soft(I like it just loud enough to hear the words), and the place itself was hard to find, simply because the sign was too small. But… I loved it. I’ll definitely be coming back again the next chance I get.

Internet here is spotty. But the vibe is friendly and the atmosphere is cool. I came in here looking for a place to work and I found it. Relaxing music, fake fireplace, and cozy furniture. To eat, they have a range including bagel sandwiches galore and beer on tap, serving all needs! Lots of little tables with some nearby outlets to plug in(need more space for laptop users, though!) and live music sometimes, too. The last time I was at Beyond the Bridge, a Christian group was meeting there and Christian rock was playing… I think this was an exception because an hour before the place was full of drunk dreadlocked hippies, but it gave me a spook!

The minute i stepped foot in here i felt comfortable. Easy going, non-abrasive atristic atmosphere. Lots of room to read, work, eat, or relax. Amazing pulls of frothy espresso, and creamy lattes. The baristas and owners are so friendly it’s crazy. The other coffee shops on 6th are good, but the people here make it. Oh, and try the bagel sammiches, good stuff.

A solid 4-star coffee shop, bordering on 5. Plenty of space, open fairly late(until 10 pm during the week), free WiFi, good menu. For food they serve not only little baked goods but some more substantial stuff like bagel sandwiches and wraps. And I like the fact that they have water available! You’d think it’d be a simple thing for every coffee place to put out a couple pitchers of water and some plastic drinking glasses, but it actually seems to be a real rarity around here. The furnishings are kind of humble but still create an inviting environment, and match the humbleness of BBC’s low prices. Yes, definitely bordering on 5 stars …

So I love everything about this place, except some of the baristas are kind’ve awkward, aggressive and don’t really listen to you. maybe I just had one bad experience. Usually I love it.

6th Ave has a lot of great little coffee shops… but one I particularly love is BBC! They are newly transplanted from Sumner & what a fit to this area! The atmosphere is relaxed & eclectic/artistic! The staff & owners are so warm & inviting & are truly devoted to the art of coffee! They know what they are doing! My favorite of course is the Lavender Latte! They serve a variety of pastries, homemade soups, yes, REALLY homemade! And of course the legendary bagel sandwiches! I just heard that they are now also serving beer & wine! It just keeps getting better! They also have great events! Open mic nights, great intimate concerts, etc. If you are a local artist… check them out for an opportunity to get your artwork on display! What am I forgetting? Free Wi-Fi! Big comfy chairs & nobody pretending their cooler then you! And thats my two cents, Tacoma!

Since moving into North Tacoma, I have been trying to check out all of the local coffee shops. My goal is two-fold: find a place with good coffee that has plenty of space available when I want to spread out and do some work. In checking out this Café, I will say that it gets my support on both counts. The space is large with plenty of places to set up shop and get some work done. I feel I could go there with a stack of papers to grade and work without interruption. I also felt that the coffee was good and the menu, which was coming together when I first stopped in, would be good for sustaining any long work session. I thought that the proprietor was very friendly and that I will definitely have to make it one of my coffee stops on Sixth Avenue. I hope they have success since we need more places like it in our ever changing city.

I visited this place for the first time last night to catch up with a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile. I used to eat at the little Italian restaurant that just closed down in this same location so I was wondering how the remodel would look, figuring it must be difficult to open a casual coffee shop in the same space as a semi upscale Italian restaurant used to be. I was really impressed. My only criticism is that the chairs were a little uncomfortable but that is probably because I have a super boney butt and I should just shut my mouth and drink my coffee. Speaking of coffee(and tea for that matter), the menu was unique which I never thought I would say about a coffee shop. Usually it’s the same old menu at coffee shops but the first neat thing about this menu is that all of their syrups are natural. They have also created some unique drinks. My friend got some kind of tea with chai and orange juice and something else I can’t quite remember but it was delicious. Also the girl behind the counter was super friendly. I hope this place does well and stays around for awhile, Tacoma could use more places like this.
