Great burgers as well as pies like Grandma used to make, sometimes anyway. It’s not very big but that will be remedied soon as they are moving to Sutter Creek, in the location of the former Palace Restaurant, which will be great as more restaurants for breakfast and lunch are needed there. But it will certainly be a loss to our little Amador City and hopefully somebody else will step up and fill the gap there.

Ashley is totally awesome. She makes the best burgers bar none. Each Friday she has a special burger that is always spectacular. If you are lucky enoogh to be there on a Sunday morning, do not miss the biscuits and gravy. They are the best I have ever had. They blow the socks off of anyone elses. If you are in the area make a point of stopping at Buffalo Chips for breakfast, lunch, dinner or an ice cream. You will not be disappointed. Bring your cash or check as credit cards aren’t currently accepted. If you need a pie — Ashley is the master. Make sure you call ahead of time and she will take always take care of you. Love this place!

We stopped by one afternoon mid-week on our way out of town. The food was fresh and great tasting. The ice cream was yummy too. I cannot remember if they accept credit cards, but for some reason I wrote a check. Maybe it was cash or check only. Two items were slightly disappointing: parking was not super close, and there were ants on one of the tables. Otherwise, we enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service.

I love the quaint atmosphere, and that it’s a family-run business. The omlet that I had was pretty good, and I wish that I lived close enough to be a regular at a place like this. The only problem is that they don’t take cards. Luckily my dad was with me, or I wouldn’t have been able to pay!

What a great find in an historic part of foothill country. We came here for a late lunch and were drawn here by the reviews of the delicious hamburgers. We were not disappointed! The burgers were excellent and flavored to please. I had a milkshake for«dessert» and was not disappointed. Bring an appetite, enjoy the ambiance of the old parlor-style restaurant, and try a slice of pie too.

Buffalo Chips Emporium is a true gem! Ashley, owner and chef, is amazing. Make it the hub for your Amador county wine weekend adventure. Be sure to arrive Friday evening for burger bash. Try Ashley’s All-American burger or one of her specials like the Portobello Burger, absolutely delicious with caramelized onions and portobello mushrooms on a Ciabatta roll. Stop by again on Saturday afternoon for a taste of the best pies you will ever find. Ashley makes an array of wonderful flavors and the pie crust is awesome: always flakey and light! Finish out the weekend by stopping in Sunday morning for the most amazing biscuits and gravy you will find anywhere.

Stopped by for lunch to try their cheeseburger and a slice of pie. BF and I split a cheeseburger so that we would have room for a slice of pie. The cheeseburger was delicious and cooked perfectly with all the trimmings. Next time we won’t be sharing! The slice of pie was homemade and we ordered it a la mode. Now I remember what a homemade pie tastes like, the way I use to bake them, but I think Buffalo Chips makes a better pie than I use to. Thank you for an enjoyable and relaxing lunch… country style.

We have been stopping at this cute little place for a couple of years for our ice cream fix. They had the best vanilla and chocolate ice cream we have ever had. This past Saturday we stopped in for our usual only to find that they have changed brands of ice cream and raised their prices. We used to get a two scoop cup for $ 4.50 now with their new ice cream, you get a two scoop cup for $ 6.50 and the ice cream is not only tasteless it is made with so much cream that it leave a coating on your tongue. We will have to find a new place for our ice cream fix, so sad since we loved the little place and the staff was terrific.

Stopped on a whim while we were driving through town. The menu was limited but be tried the special – Turkey on Rye with pesto and jack cheese, with potato salad. It was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. We finished off with a slice of cherry pie a la mode and I am wondering why there wasn’t a line out the door. Seriously some of the best food I’ve ever had.

Ok so a burger and fries is pretty much my favorite cheat meal, and I especially love fries dipped in ranch. Needless to say I was a little disappointed that they don’t do fries and only offer potato chips, but one bite of my burger and I was like who the hell needs fries??? It was so flavorful and juicy which is a feat since I like my burgers well done. Now on to the homemade sauces, I ordered a side of ranch and thousand island. So to say they are«good» would be an insult to them, I seriously used my extra tomato and lettuce to sop up the extra sauce in the little ramekin. And although I was stuffed my hubby and I split a rootbeer float, it doesn’t look like anything extra special but it was the best tasting float I’ve ever had, you could see the little specks of vanilla bean in the ice cream and the root beet tasted like old fashioned bottled root beer. They are also famous for pies, I didn’t have any but after creepily watching the cutest old man eat his piece like it was a plate of gold, I’m definitely getting a piece next time. Amador city is a little hidden city off the beaten path but it’s definitely worth exploring :)

My favorite place to go, ever, And I have been all over California! I grew up in Amador City eating the food at buffalo chips and it is so wonderful. The love and hospitality and the food so much! Every time I go in I know I can get a wonderful hamburger and a mind blowing piece of home made pie! If you only have once chance to eat while in amador county Buffalo Chips is your place!

Completely felt tourist trapped. Stopped by for a quick drink… Got charged $ 3 for a tiny lemonade bottle and $ 2 for a bag of chips. Got told the food was great but not with that attitude. Sorry.

Buffalo Chips has been a favorite of ours for years, and we are always pleased with the tasty food and excellent service received. It was a fun place to stop with our young kids on the way to summer camping trips, as well as getaway excursions with the hubby. Although the menu is simple, the burgers and sandwiches are yummy and satisfying. Ice cream treats and freshly made pie never disappoint.

We found this place through Unilocal as have many of the other reviewers. BF and I had been toodling around Gold Country for a few days(kids were with grandparents so we thought we’d take advantage of that and take a little road trip). We were staying in Plymouth at a sorta creepy motel(see other reviews) and the guy at the desk recommended some 4-star restaurant in downtown Plymouth but we’re from Napa so we can eat at a 4-star restaurant any day of the week. So we opted for Buffalo Chips. It was Burger Friday so basically that’s all they were serving. BF had the special which was peppered bacon and cheese on a homemade ciabatta(and I mean homemade — as in baked right there). I had a regular bacon cheeseburger. Both came with a green salad and a scoop of potato salad. Simple, but absolutely fantastic. Juicy burger cooked to perfection. Cheese perfectly melted. On BF’s burger, some of the cheese had flowed down the sides of his burger and onto the grill so it was crispy. I thought he was going to get up and do a «crispy cheese dance» and I swear he was making happy noises while he ate. Slabs of fresh tomato(said tomatoes being sold by an old timer right outside) and pickles made this burger even more delicious. The potato salad was also quite yummy; with the perfect ratio of mayo, onion, celery, olive, egg and other goodies to potatoes(also being sold by the sweet guy outside). I think our total bill was $ 23.00. Service was great. We wanted pie so bad but were so stuffed we just couldn’t. I have had my fair share of burgers in my time(and have the wide ass to prove it) and this was, by far, the best burger I have ever eaten. If you find yourself with a rumbly tumbly and are up around Jackson, do NOT head to the drive-through. Get on your GPS and drive the extra few miles to Amador City and treat yourself to a REAL burger.

I would like to thank Unilocal for even having the opportunity to write this review, because we never would’ve found this place, otherwise! We’ve been going to Volcano, CA for years. But, the cities are so spread out that it’s difficult to find little towns, like Amador City, that are right off the 49! So, on our way out of town, I’m Unilocaling. And, I’m Unilocaling. Finally, this place catches my eye. We’d have to backtrack, but it looks promising. Boy, was this promising. Amador City is this hidden little gem of a town that I would gladly relocate and live a simpler life. I digress. We get to Buffalo Chips, and I feel like I just came out of a time machine. What?! This place has been here for 40 years?! Ok. They must be doing something right. They have a cute little candy shoppe area with lollipops, and retro candy, and fun treats. I ordered the special of the day: Turkey BLT on ciabatta(from Andres, down the street), with dill mayo. Hubs ordered their burger, as he needed a burger redemption from the night before. Each meal came with a bag of Classic Lays, and some fruit. Oh, and by the way, for you Diet Coke connoisseurs, they have the perfect concentration. We would take bites, then look around, thinking, this place is too good to be true. The hamburger was perfectly cooked, and my BLT had loads of freshly shaved turkey. While we were there, these biker dudes came in and only ordered the triple berry pie, a la mode. Naturally, we have to get a slice of that pie! MMMM. Perfect homemade crust, not too sweet, and served with a scoop of Double Rainbow ice cream. We didn’t want to leave, but we had to.

This place is amazing! I just wish it were closer to my home town. If you want the best burgers around, this is the place. Had a cheeseburger and a malt. The burger was cooked to perfection with optional ingredients, very fresh. The malt is simply the best I’ve ever had. This place and Andrae’s Bakery a few doors down, pack quite a one-two punch, and present a compelling reason for me to drive an hour plus to visit these two very fine establishments.
