Went in this morning. There were two groups in front of us. One single and one group of three. We ordered a donut and a ham & cheese croissant. Nearly forty minutes later, I asked what was up and they were ‘making’ the croissant sandwich. It’s pre-cut ham, pre-cut cheese on a pre-made croissant. They apologized, saying they were ‘slammed.’ Never offered a refund, free coffee, whatever. Heck, I would have taken a genuine apology/explanation. Then I get my stuff and we’re now late for where we were headed, so we bolt fast. I get a near the car and start noshing and it is stone cold. Not even room temp, but straight cold. So, paid way too much, was given lame service, it took well over half an hour to make a ham and cheese croissant and then it’s cold. I’ve never been here before, so maybe it was an off day, but it was way off.

Best cream cheese cinnamon buns ever. Perfect in every way. Even better than Cinnabon. :)

I was so excited to try this place. I basically skipped in the door. Sadly, I was quickly and sorely disappointed. I came in for breakfast. They serve breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. They were out of both bagels and croissants at 9:45, so burrito it was. I ordered the Lava, which is like a Mexican burrito with ham, egg, jalapeños and red onion with salsa and sour cream. I ordered mine minus jalapeños and red onion. I also ordered coffee for my hubs and a chai for me. My husband special ordered his burrito because neither of the burrito options tempted him. When our burritos came, they were a nice size. Definitely shareable. My package said«no onion» but the burrito was full of them. And jalapeños. :( No sour cream, which is one of the best parts! I picked apart my burrito to eat around the things I didn’t want since there were so many. I left half the burrito there unfortunately. My husbands was«fine.» The coffee and chai were good but so hot! Too hot! The chocolate frosted donut was moist and rich, they totally got that right. Atmosphere wise, this place could use an update. There was food all over the floor and the case when you walk in is empty, which looks bad. The exit door slams anytime a person walks out so you have this nice shake about every five minutes. Overall, poor selection of breakfast food on this experience, they got my order wrong and the door is seriously obnoxious. I can’t recommend.

Too expensive for what you get. Boyfriend ordered the mountain man sandwich without cheese and still paid $ 8. I had the alpine, which was just okay — egg was somewhat dry. Maple cinnamon roll was very good. Mocha was very sweet. Chai was pretty good. Overall, this place was too expensive for what they serve.

I hate to have to give this place 1 star! Back in the 90’s there would be a line out the door in the morning and it was one of the highlights of the trip to Sunriver. Now I understand why you can walk right up and place your order. The doughnuts were extremely dry with no flavor! It was as if they keep them in the refrigerator and just resell the leftovers for a few days. Russian Roulette, folks. Moreover, a handful of doughnuts sets you back $ 15!!! Yeah, no thanks. We gave each one a few pity bites but then couldn’t do it anymore. Shameful.

Their coffee is mediocre at best. Food is just okay. Slowwwww. Just so many better options in Sunriver.

We come to Sunriver every year & usually always go to Lava at least 2x during our week long stay. The bread & breakfast sandwiches are great! The bread is freshly made & delicious!!! We usually get the breakfast sandwiches or burritos but they also have fresh donuts & muffins that look tasty. The downside is the service. They tend to get really crowded especially in the summer. It’s one of my the few places in the village that you can grab a quick bit to go. There is usually a line out the door & some of the employees don’t have a sense of urgency which can be frustrating! Seating is limited because it’s a pretty small place. Best if you are grabbing your food to go.

Blueberry scone was delicious. Probably the best scone I have ever eaten. My husband tried the pecan roll. He said the only thing that would have improved the roll would have been a bowl of chili. The staff was very helpful and pleasant, especially for 6:30am.

The best thing I ate in central Oregon marionberry pastry. We stopped early(6 am) for breakfast before fly fishing. Had seen cinnamon rolls the previous day, but they had not finished baking yet. Was glad they weren’t! We had coffee and these warm puff pastry pillows one filled with cheese, the other marionberry. Melted in your mouth.

What?!! I was shocked to see an average of 3 stars on here. Really?!! The coffee is the best I’ve had in a long while(and I am from PDX) and the sandwiches are awesome! Their homemade bread is delicious and the portions are huge! I’m so tired of sub-par sandwiches and ‘coffee shops’ with horrible coffee drinks… this place neither! Here’s hoping the new Starbucks goes out of business so this local business in Sunriver can be here for a long time! Also, doughnuts and cinnamon rolls bigger than your head!

While the caramel roll was top notch, the coffee left something to be desired. Caramel roll: soft, gooey, loaded with pecans and cinnamon, and perfectly baked. Coffee: mocha was incredibly sweet, almost no coffee flavor, didn’t even finish the drink. Chai latte was way too sweet, and nothing special. Probably the worst chai I’ve ever had :/Totally disappointed in this coffee!

Very average if not below average baked goods. No cookies left at 1:30pm. I agree with others that the staff tries hard but doesn’t have a direction. Also the cupcake I got had berry jam under the chocolate frosting which was not appetizing to me. Unfortunately this is the only baked goods place in Sunriver. If they raised their quality and availability I would consider coming back.

I haven’t had the donuts, but the chicken and cheddar sandwich was delicious. The bread was soft and toasted. The cheese was warm and melted. It was great. I also had terrific service. The smoothie, however was just way too sweet. I was tempted to go back and have a Big Foot donut, but I knew it looked better than it would taste.

Let’s be honest… the baked donuts are barely edible! I have been a glutton for punishment as I have continued to try HOTLAVA many times over the years hoping for improvement. I have officially given up… the donuts are one reviewer put it «are not worth the calories» and I agree. I also never received a warm welcome as I am waiting for someone to take our order… painfully slow and apathetic.

Delicious cinnamon twist and baked donut and the coffee was delicious. They had beautiful desserts in the case, but we haven’t tried them yet. This is a local business, employing local people from Sunriver. It has a legitimate comfortable feel, not corporate or designer comfortable. I will be back often when I am in town.

The staff is friendly and tries hard. But they have no direction. Way too long of a wait for a very average donut. And their coffee drinks are also average. Prices are way too high. The only reason this place does well is because it’s the only one. Very average donuts, tried them all. Only thing good is the $ 5 Pecan roll With all the money in that area, one would think someone could open a decent donut shop. But that has yet to be done.

Yummy baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and sandwiches. Really cute selection of Christmas themed pastries too! The coffee was also good, white mocha was much better than Starbucks!
