The Salvation Army

Such a wonderful place. They helped our family when we didn’t have money for chrismas presents many years ago. They have fun events for the kids too!

There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding this particular location. Please note: This is NOT a Salvation Army Store. The actual retail store is located a few miles away. This location provides emergency food for the homeless, monthly food boxes for those that qualify within the 94 087 zip code, as well as fresh produce (fruits and veggies), a wonderful monthly luncheon for seniors as well as breads and baked goods on a daily basis (M-​F). The woman at the front desk (Bernice) couldn’t be more willing to help anyone in need. Emergency food? Bus Pass? Emergency Clothing? Bernice is the SuperHero of this office! If you are in need and reside within the 94 087 zip code, I strongly encourage you to check out this office and the resources that they offer.

Salvation Army Dispatch and drivers crew for this area are inept. Our aunt died in Palo Alto, close to Stanford, with collectible antiques, valuables, jewelry etc. We couldn’t fly to Cal to deal with her things and called the Salvation Army. They said Sure, but the drivers evidently did not want the job. Did did not even enter her place. We tried on three occasions, even having her grandchildren there, but the S.A.simply did not have the desire to go inside. We finally contacted a collector/​dealer to take her things. The depression glass items and her costume jewelry are already on Ebay.
We were under a time constraint. Clueless management for dispatch and driving/​hauling team who didn’t give a damn. They never really a gave a thought as to what might be inside the place. They were just driving around in the Salvation Army truck all day, I guess. Picking up items would have required some physical effort.

I went here this week after my amazing Salvation Army experience in Gilroy… which was probably a bad idea.
This location is pretty standard for a Sal-​Arm, which I would normally fully expect if it weren’t for the magical dreamland of the Gilroy one. It’s a pretty small space, and the clothing is a little hard to get through (really jammed in and the aisles are pretty close) — but such is the thrifting experience.
The employees, however, weren’t so great. One of the employees very rudely charged down the aisles a few times, rudely exclaiming «excuse me» when people were in her way. Pretty much the whole time I was there employees were yelling back and forth to each other — it just wasn’t a happy, friendly environment.
I did find some nice stuff, but didn’t end up buying anything because the line was too long to justify my measly purchases. I will be going back again, and will update according to that experience.

Not sure why the previous person wrote about this salvation Army as selling crap. This Salvation Army does not sell anything as they help to feed and clothe the low income. This is not a store but a true assistance program. I donated many scarves and blankets that my mom and I made for the needy over the years and they were truly appreciative, especially Bernice with her warm smile and always trying hard to assist and help everyone. They dont come any better than this lady and the staff is always hard at work. Hats off to all of you.

Like most Salvation Armys, this place sells plenty of outdated crap including a small connection of tacky furniture. This particular location is a bit small and you feel like you’re in sombody’s old basement. It also smells like a giant ashtray. Regardless I usually find something interesting here. Today I found a little 99 cent gadget that automatically lights your toilet at night when you approch so no «accidents» LOL.
