THEONLYREASONWHYTHEIRROLLSAREBIGGERTHANOTHERPLACESISBECAUSETHEYJUSTPACKONTHERICE. Bigger doesn’t always mean better in this case. I’m not a fan of being unable to easily eat a piece of sushi in one bite. Overall, our party of four all left unimpressed.

For some reason, people think I’m a stickler for authentic sushi. e.g. «sushi has to be authentic, made by trained Japanese masters, serving only traditional nigiri, with proper cuts…» blah blah blah… This is a mistake. What bugs me is when I’m specifically told that a sushi place is «authentic» and it isn’t; that just drives me nuts. But if someone says, let’s go to a sushi place, they’ve got some fun sushi roll combinations. I’m totally down for that. Or if someone says they know of a sushi place that serves decent sushi at a reasonable price, or a bit expensive but all-you-can-eat, that’s great too. TGI Sushi is of the latter kind… Just a fun little sushi place that makes some interesting sushi rolls. The fish is reasonably fresh, the cuts may not be correctly aligned, but they’re a good size, and taste just fine, The rice is okay, too, so who cares? The best aspect of TGI Sushi, they’re unique twist on sushi rolls, is their naming convention. They pick names that remind us we’re in the Silicon Valley, and that’s kind of fun. The ones that come to mind are the«Mr. NetScreen» and«Mrs. NetScreen» But there are others. The location is smallish, and the atmosphere is fairly busy. It’s just off the highly trafficked Lawrence, but off a side street just deep enough to give a bit of a sense of seclusion. Another great thing about TGI Sushi, I’ve been there three times now, and perhaps it’s the way I order when going there, but unlike other sushi restaurants, the bill is always reasonable. In fact, this most recent trip, the bill came to just $ 15 per person(we didn’t drink, so that helps, but even then, good price) If you’re a sushi snob, stay away from this place. But if you’re not, and like sushi rolls, this place serves just fine. Definitely good enough for me to choose coming here again down the road. Yep, this place is A-OK.

DISGUSTING. Please stay away from this place! My boyfriend was eating their maguro(tuna) sashimi and he had to spit out sand and rocks. No joke, ROCKSANDSAND in the sashimi. Not just grains of it, I’m talking sizable beads that were huge! It hurt his teeth and he had to spit out the food there was so much of it. The sushi chef apologized and gave us a new order but that’s just not cool at all. It’s unfortunate bc I really enjoyed this place. Their service and the food was decent for pricing but we will not be returning to this dirty-ass place. I advise anyone who wants sushi without dirty/sand/rocks in it to find somewhere else to eat.

Not sure what happened… but apparently Chris sold this location… it’s now Sushi Blvd… They still try to have the same menu… and food… but it’s just not the same… Doubt that I’ll go back to this spot…

I went here for lunch. Place is kind of small so arrive before the crowd comes. The sushi rolls overall were good. Fish is fresh and everyone gets miso soup. I didn’t like the customer service at all. They were slow and kind of nonchalant. But then again its lunch time and it’s busy We paid for our bill in cash, but the lady told us to just pay part cash and part credit. We did that, but I guess my friends got confused and forgot to tip the lady. Because I guess tip wasn’t enough in cash so she split the bill so that we’d tip more. So we leave an she literally ran down the street and told us we didn’t tip enough! Are you serious?!‘ I mean, c’mon! Who does that? Anyways. Overall. Good sushi, retarded service, and there’s plenty of sushi joints around. Therefore I’m not coming back.

The food is fantastic and the portions are surprisingly huge. This place is not at all authentic sushi, but I am a sucker for fried and creative rolls. I’m a huge fan of their Johnny Luv roll. It was the first time I tried a baked roll and it was delicious! I get it every time I go to TGI’s Sushi now. They give you edamame, miso, and some bean sprout salad and some times they even give you other complimentary rolls. Any place that gives this many freebies with my meal gets a great rating. I ordered the lunch bento box once and was nearly overwhelmed by the portions. It comes with salad, tempura, two items of your choice, rice, and an orange and some kind of dessert gyoza. I couldn’t finish it and had to take it home. Needless to say, no one touched the Hannah Roll we ordered on the side. The atmosphere is very Asian pop with photos of customers lining the wall and j/k pop streaming through the speakers. The staff is very friendly, attentive and patient, so coming here is always a pleasure. I don’t find the price to be that much higher than other places.

I got the Hannah Roll — soft shell crab, cucumber, avodcado and unagi. Yum! I like that it’s a pretty decent portion size. A little pricey, however the price was not that much different from typical special roll prices(maybe just a dollar or so pricier). The soft shell crab was actually pretty good here. I’ve found that often times places use the same oil to fry their crab so you get that over-fried oil taste in the crab — didn’t have this problem here. Came during busy lunch hours but was still seated pretty fast. Service was a little inattentive but the place was packed.

I had a good feeling about this small sushi joint when the young sushi chef peered up at me, pointed at my shirt and said, «Wow! That’s a David Lee Roth era Van Halen t-shirt! That’s super awesome!» From there, we started talking about(real) rock music and not that crap people pretend to enjoy today such as the Killers, MGMT, Maroon 5, or other forms of girl rock. Yeah, that’s super lame. As we discussed(real) rock music, a friendly server came on by and offered some complimentary edamame. Yeah, that’s super awesome. After my late lunch here, I can report that this is a solid choice if you are into fresh sashimi and/or nigiri. However, it’s better suited to pig out on large rolls as the portions are huge. Either way, it’s a solid meal at a solid price. And unlike other sushi joints, it doesn’t close in the middle of the day for a few hours. Yeah, that’s super awesome too. So if you want to enjoy a late lunch or early dinner or have a sushi craving in the middle of the day, then let this place satiate your sushi fix. Normally, I’d award a place like this 3.5 stars. But I am bumping them up to the next star for the extended hours and of course, for the sushi chef’s stellar taste in music. Long live the mighty Van Halen. I’ve got it bad, got it bad, got it bad… I’m hot for sushi!

The reviews weren’t lying when they said the portions here were HUGE. And by huge, I mean can’t-even-finish-half-my-rolls-or-sashimi big. Ordered the sashimi dinner and Lion King Roll. Sashimi dinner comes with 4 types of fish with 4 pieces each. Excuse me, I mean, 4BIGCHUNKS of fish each. It’s odd when you can’t fit the whole piece in your mouth so you have to chew your way through the sashimi. Lion King Roll was pretty filling as well. Service was really attentive and friendly. They also take gift certificates as well. Score! To me, you come here for the big portions, not for the quality. Although the quality wasn’t bad, it wasn’t amazing either. But you definitely get your money’s worth

I like this sushi place alot! The sushi here almost compared to the one I had in East LA. I ordered the spicy tuna with salmon roll. The pieces were pretty large with a buttery slice of sashimi. The rice was pretty sticky although that would’ve been better. The spicy tuna was actually pretty damn spicy as well which made my sushi a lot better. The service was good, the atmosphere was nicely decorated with japanese art. The place looked very big from the outside but in the inside the room was actually small. The temperature kinda pissed me off just because it was a hot day already and then then the sushi place had fans that didnt really cool me down. This place serves great sushi and the price aren’t that expensive either which is a plus!

TGI Sushi has always been one of my favorite sushi places. Recently I feel the they give you a lot of rice to make the sushi bigger and a lot of sauce. Still at that tastes great. Tip: Buy a gift certificate from and save close to 50% on your purchase here.

TGISUSHI I’m always looking for good sushi, but as we all know, sushi costs $$$. I’m always up for good sushi buffets, but if those are are not available, where to? Hmmmmm… how about TGI Sushi? I’m usually not a big fan of Korean-style sushi, but this place rocks!!! The sushi rolls were huge, colorful, overloaded, and absolutely delicious. Kudos to the sushi chefs who made some awesomely beautiful and yummy rolls! Some of the rolls were quite creative and aesthetic in presentation. Prices are reasonable and you get what you pay for, literally. The more expensive, the more impressive! Highly recommended for those of you who love great tasting sushi!

If you like ‘fusion’ sushi rolls that will actually fill you up, you will probably like TGI’s sushi. If you are into traditional nigiri or great quality/rare sashimi, go somewhere else. All the rolls I have tried were decent but it was not hard to figure the fish aren’t really the best quality. The rolls here are generously portioned. I could barely finished 1.5 rolls and I was extremely full afterward. I might come here again when I crave for rolls. The complimentary miso soup, salad and edamame were just nice touch. The service is excellent. I came here for a really late dinner and stayed until they were about to close. The entire time I never felt rushed. My tea cup was filled constantly by a courteous server. In terms of food I will give this restaurant a 2.5 stars. Rounding it up this time because of the generous portion and good service. Some of the sauce were too overpowering. I heard this Sunnyvale location is now better than the Campbell one. I might try out the Campbell TGI sushi next time to verify the claim.

My review is only for the sushi rolls because I only come here when I crave Korean-made sushi rolls(it satisfies my sweet tooth as well as my sushi craving in one go). With that said, my rating is actually a 3.5, not 4, but since I think a 3(«A-OK») doesn’t do it justice, I gave it 4 stars, especially for a south bay sushi joint. I’ve been here at least half a dozen times… if not maybe even a dozen. Today, however, we just got sushi to go. Usually, I feel like most sushi places don’t put as much effort into their take-out orders but TGI Sunnyvale does. Everything was stellar. I ordered my usual favorite, Rebecca Roll. We also ordered the Country Roll and Lion King Roll. On a usual day(today was the first time I did take-out with this location), I get the Rebecca(I *always* get this one), Crazy Chris, Mike’s Roll, Peter’s Special. Sometimes I get the California Deluxe if I’m oddly in the mood for California Roll and I just want something to fill me up without costing me another $ 12, which is the price for most of these rolls(except the Crazy Chris, since it’s only 4 pieces, but it’s a FAT4-piece roll). Fish is overall pretty fresh, but not the freshest I’ve had. It’s up to par in quality but let’s just say I don’t come here to eat sashimi or nigiri. For that, you should really go elsewhere. I had their ankimo once and it was okay, but the slices(more like chunks) were too big and I like my «pâté of the sea» to be more delicate. I never had their cooked food here either, except for their complimentary bean sprout salad and miso soup. Service is always good though. Very friendly waitresses, very nice sushi chefs. I used to like the Campbell location(for TGI sushi) better. But I recently got some rolls there and it has gone downhill IMO. I also noticed that the owner and the usual sushi chef that I used to see at Campbell are always working at Sunnyvale now. So maybe this location is getting yummier while the Campbell one is going the other way…

TGI’s sushi has spoiled me a little. Every time I go, I get a friendly welcome(shouts from the sushi chefs, smiles from the waitresses); Then they start plying me with food, sometimes before I even get a chance to order: miso soup, salad, edamame, pickled sprouts begin arriving(they are part of every lunch). Here’s a quick breakdown: SERVICE: Stellar.(On one visit my green tea was refilled three times!). And the pink-shirted waitresses are omnipresent and cheery. SETTING: Like a bustling Japanese diner; can get very busy and loud, especially at high noon on a Thursday or Friday. FOOD: Large portions with good value; Not the best Japanese food I’ve had, but respectable in most cases. Unfortunately, they dedicate several pages of the menu to wackadoodle rolls(a.k.a. big ass stupid name rolls) Meals I’ve had here: – Bento lunch with chicken teriyaki and CA roll:($ 10.95) Small portion of teriyaki but very large roll in the crab salad style. This bento included a terrible gyoza, a large bowl of rice, a very large order of tempura(not a fan to begin with) and salad(fine). Despite the very high price, it seemed like I got my money’s worth when I considered all the extras(soup, apps, sides) 3 stars. – Sushi Sampler plate:($ 11.95): Six large pieces of nigiri sushi plus California roll; Included tuna, fatty tuna, salmon, shrimp, halibut, sea bass. All were tender and tasty, though the fatty tuna didn’t look like fatty tuna I’d ever seen, so maybe I mis-heard the waitress. Cal roll was very large and meaty. So much food I couldn’t finish. Great value! 4 stars. – Oyakodon: Probably worst version I’ve ever had, with little flavor and gigantic chicken pieces that were much too hard to eat with chopsticks. No sauce to speak of. They offered a spice shaker for sprinkling on top, but this was mostly hot pepper, which I didn’t really want. 2 stars. Despite one dissapointing meal, I still kinda like this place. But I can’t quite justify a round-up to 4. Due to it’s proximity to work and excellent sushi sampler price, however, I have no doubt I’ll be back in the near future.

I don’t know what it is about Korean owned Japanese restaurants, but the rolls just come bigger, like BIGGER. Usually it’s a good thing when food come in bigger portions but I think there is a delicate balance when it comes to sushi. We ordered the Sashimi Dinner($ 18.95 or something like that) which had 4 slabs of tuna, 4 slabs of salmon, and 4 slabs of yellowtail. All the most edible fish on one plate which is fantastic. But they were SLABS. Thick to about ¾″ and meaty, they required multiple bites to eat a piece. For some reason, biting raw fish in half isn’t as satisfying as popping them whole into the mouth. You know what I mean? The fish were pretty fresh, but they weren’t the best cuts. One had remnants of some skin(gross) and another had a bit of muscle or tissue. Tsk Tsk. The meal does come with rice, miso, and salad. Actually all diners get soup, salad and sumono. Edamame too which was nice. Green tea was complimentary as well. Then we tried 2 rolls. Eric’s Special($ 13.95) was a huge 2.25″ in tall concoction of shrimp tempura wrapped in unagi, tuna and avocado, then topped with shredded crab meat. It had a sweet sauce that was very nice. There was a lot of densely packed rice in the roll which took away from the overall experience. But I did like this roll. Again you just couldn’t eat it in one bit though. I had to separate the top from the middle from the bottom in order to eat it all. Jose’s Special($ 13.95 give or take) was slightly smaller in height, with a spicy tuna and macadamia nut middle, and albacore on top. It had a nice light ponzu sauce for the albacore and then a little heat from the spicy tuna. The crunchiness from the nut was different. I didn’t mind it but my dining companion picked them out. They were noticeably crunchy. So all in all, the experience was ok. Good service(we were one of 3 tables), decent food, plenty of parking(random hidden strip mall), and lots of food. I think if they worked on lessening the density of the rice the rolls would be better. Definitely a place to come with big eaters. They would love it.

4.5 if I could! We have often frequented the Campbell location but last night decided to give the Sunnyvale location a try. I’m glad we did since now I feel like this location is my favorite over the Campbell location. We got there around 7:30pm and the restaurant wasn’t crowded at all. I love how NOT cramped this location is. There are plenty of tables and still room for a sushi bar. You don’t HAVE to sit next to other diners.(one up!) Once we ordered, our drinks, miso soup, cold bean sprouts ANDEDENAME came out. Which was nice! The other place only gives you one or the other. I like how we got both here. I ordered the chirashi for comparison and it came out to expectation, if not better. The sushi was cold, plus they were smart and figured I wouldn’t eat so much of the sushi rice and gave me less of that.(one up from campbell) the s.o. didn’t get the sukiyaki, but instead got a dinner bento with chicken and salmon teriyaki. There was PLENTY of tempura and FRESHHOT dipping sauce! That was a pleasant surprise. The bento also comes with a nice deep fried potato(think mcdonald’s has brown, but better!)„ one gyoza, and honeydew slice. The melon was REALLY sweet. Meat was ok, everything was cooked decently, and it wasn’t drenched in sauce which is a plus for me. We also ordered the Lion King roll. The salmon was nice in the way that it was cooked outside but slightly raw on the inside, nice texture. The spicy sauce has a slight kick, which was a minus for the s.o. since he can’t really take any spicy food. HUGE portions. Overall, I’d love to come here more often. Too bad the location is slightly out of the way for me personally, but whenever I crave TGI’s Sushi, I’ll be coming back to this Sunnyvale location.

Let me start with the obligatory«I love TGISUSHI.» HOWEVER, I like it in Campbell, that is. The rolls are the same. The feel is the same. The staff is dressed the same. The people pleasantly the same. BUT, there is one stark difference… The beat popping, loud thumping, Japan POP, playing in the background. Although the venue is a bit more spacious, this does not mean blast the music music DJ. I couldn’t hear myself order… It was annoying, jarring, and distracting. I thought I was at Miyake’s and the reason I like TGI Sushi, is because it’s NOT Miyake’s. Turn off or turn down the music, and maybe i’ll be back. Newark coming soon, let’s hope we don’t see people swing from the lights taking SAKEBOMBS there…

I’ve decided to try out different places for sushi to see what the bay area has to offer until I am fixed on which my favorite place is. What we ordered that night: Bento box with chicken and beef teriyaki(tender meet) — $ 14ish Lion King Roll(baked salmon topped california roll, needed more sauce though…) — $ 12ish Rachel Roll(fried roll with cream cheese/unagi/avocado) — $ 12ish Unagi Lover Roll(lots of unagi) — $ 13ish The only reason why I am taking 2 stars off of this place is because of the ridiculous amount of rice that they use for their rolls or anything… Too much rice… I mean it makes the rolls look bigger and tastier but us customers end up wasting the rice, putting it aside since it is way too much… It just fills your stomach up with ingredients that you don’t want to be filled up with. Otherwise, everything else was delicious inside the rolls. if they learn to make the right balance, the rolls will be perfect! a bit pricy on the rolls, but sushi rolls these days at any restaurants are around these prices now. i like the pictures that they have of the rolls in their menu. pictures always gives people more of an appetite! Other than that, I would definitely come back to this small local joint. Fast service, simple, korean-owned, intimate, and friendly warm greetings of deep voice«MOCHIIIii moCcchhiiiiii» which made me laugh everytime i heard someone walking into the restaurant. It’s like trying to make everyone look at you, when they greet their customers… SPOTLIGHT then everyone goes back to eating…
