4.5 Stars. Not going to wax poetic or go into every dish we ate. Just know that the service is attentive, without being over-bearing. The atmosphere is cozy and the drinks are strong. As for the food, it’s well-priced for you get. Portions are generous, and the menu is tight and well focused. It’s a good choice if celebrating a special occasion or for a nice Friday out if you don’t feel like heading into the city.

Outstanding meal tonight. Geoffrey and the staff at the Huntley Taverne are phenomenal. My wife had the lobster ravioli to start and I had the tuna tartare. The ravioli were fantastic and extremely tasty with chunks of lobster meat. The tuna tartare here is some of the best I have ever had. For our main course I had the hanger steak and my wife had the white pie. Again she let me try her food and it was very flavorful. The hanger steak was cooked perfect. I am already planning my next trip back to have it again. We tried the chocolate cake for dessert. Normally I am not a dessert person, but I could not stop eating this cake. I loved the fresh glass of milk that it was served with. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking for good food, great atmosphere and fantastic service.

The restaurant discriminates against children. My husband and I were turned away due to our 8M old son and their inability to provide a safe seat for him. The restaurant doesn’t offer booster seats or high chairs. Pretty awful.

originally, i had given this place one star, due to the amazingly rude hostess who turned me and my 93 year old mother in law away. luckily, i found a cute little place down the street, ‘anna’s’, that was an excellent restaurant. it closed, so i decided to try the huntley again. i’m glad i did. first – the negatives. it’s expensive and pretentious. and loud. go in knowing that. but the positives are the food, the service, and oddly, the space. first, the service was way above jersey standards – i like having experienced help, and everybody seemed to work like a machine, in a good way. i’ll get on with the four stars – the food. i had the mushroom ‘bisque’, but was more like a mushroom purée – and it was excellent. i don’t think i’ve had better-boulud makes a great one, but this beats it, i think. i also had the tuna tartar, which is my weakness. and again, they nailed it. shaved ginger and a little wasabi. it was on flatbread, which was interesting, but it worked. my bf had a salmon ‘bowl’, and it was excellent, as well.

I sit down at the bar, and see a stack of copper cups at the bar back. The call of the Moscow mule was irresistible. Excellent cocktails mixed by a friendly bartender. There are several dinning areas, and I was seated in the large window enclosed porch. Its a warm inviting upscale restraunt. Attentive service. Great food. I had a very yummy crab cake sandwich. It is the perfect place to have a business lunch.

The service is attentive but VERY slow. The food that we got was cold and over spiced. In a twelve person party we had to send four dishes back. I feel that a restaurant with these prices has to have much better food. The décor and atmosphere are nice. I have two stars for nice wait staff and atmosphere. Otherwise it would’ve been a one star review.

This is my favorite restaurant in Summit. The food and drinks is always excellent. Atmosphere is cozy in the winter with the fireplace going. In the summer, you can sit on the porch. Never disappoints.

Sitting at the bar grooving on good food, drinks and service. The game has definitely been amped up. And… Geoffrey is GM, nothing can go wrong now!!! One request: please switch up the lunch menu. The dinners are awesome, lunch gets played too safe. IMHO

Went here for my birthday dinner last Saturday night. Have always heard good things and have been meaning to try it since moving to this area a few years ago. Made a reservation a few days in advance for 5:30 Saturday. Place was already starting to get crowded when we walked in. My wife and parents were not overly impressed at the exterior but I thought it looked like a place with ‘taverne’ in the name should — kind of rustic. Drinks were good — had a blood orange old fashioned which was made really well just a bit weak for an old fashioned. Switched after one of those to a regular old fashioned and this one was a little stronger but still had a great taste. Food — I was excited about the menu before coming, as it had a little of everything from bo land and sea. It did not disappoint. The menu is seasonal so it’s always changing. We shared the stracciatella w/bacon, beet salad, crab cake, and angry shrimp spring rolls. Everything was great. My wife had a crusted halibut and she cleaned her plate. Dad and I had a red grit crusted NY strip, and the taste was so unique and really flavorful, the kind of steak you need no sauce for. I don’t usually order any cut except filet because I hate cutting around the fat, but this one was cooked so well and had such a great taste that I ate most of it without dissecting any fat. Mom had a filet with a blue cheese topping, and she also cleaned her plate. We shared some delicious carrots cooked in a sort of honey reduction so they were sweet. And a pulled pork Mac n cheese which was just ok, possibly because I was too focused on my steak to eat any before it got cold. We didn’t do dessert because I had a cake waiting for me at home, but once they found out it was my birthday they brought out some complementary ice cream and chocolate cookies on a plate with Happy Birthday written — classy move. I will definitely be back here.

Coming from Manhattan where every corner you turn has another restaurant or go to spot, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon the Huntley taverne, a gem tucked away among the local streets of jersey. Inside: The atmosphere was warm and welcoming to everyone ranging from a cozy family dinner, date night or dinner with friends. The interior was delightful with stone walls, arches and a crackling fire place to keep you warm in the winter. I was seated on the porch(don’t worry you’re still in doors) and it was lovely. I felt like I was outside, without having to brave the cold! The service: The servers were very attentive and always made sure we had everything we needed at the table and that our glasses of wine were always full. Someone had dropped a knife on the floor, and before even lifting her head from bending down to pick it up, a server had already brought over a new knife — I was very impressed! The only flaw, we gave a credit card to pay the bill and when it was returned they actually doubled the total of the bill! That would have been a very profitable dinner for the restaurant! The food: We were so hungry when we sat down we immediately ordered wine(of course) and a margarita pizza to share while we pondered the rest of the meal. The pizza was the right amount of doughy: thin slice pizza ratio, and the arugula topping gave an extra spice. We shared a Cesar salad which was fresh and crunchy but, lacking in some flavor, it was not my favorite. I had the almond crusted salmon as my main, which was cooked to perfection and very tasty.

A hidden spot in Summit you would never find without a quick google search. Huntley Taverne is an oasis in barren NJ. I saw a cute couple having a first date, there seems to be a great bar and they are really stepping up their entrée options. If you’re hankering for a new take on fancy american food in dirty jerz, this is the place you’ll want to try!

You guys, this food was amazing. So so good. I ate here for a business dinner in a group of 8 — you never know with groups as sometimes the service can drop or the food gets timed weirdly, but these guys were spot on. We had two waiters assigned to us, who were friendly but not obnoxious, and the main guy kept the pace going and made recommendations to keep everything on track. The food, though, was unbelievable. For apps we got the Tavern Board — charcuterie platter with pates, duck, cranberries, cheese, cauliflower and more — and the App Trio — spring rolls, crab cakes, and tuna tartare. It was all delicious. The tartare was probably the standout, but everything was super good. For my entrée, I had seared tuna with ramen noodles. Oooooomg. Amazing. The tuna was cooked perfectly with a spicy rub, and the noodles had a bit of a creamy sauce with mushrooms, greens, and more. It was ridiculous. My colleague who had the same thing said that it was the best tuna she’d had in her life, and she doesn’t give food compliments lightly. Personally, I don’t know if the tuna itself was the best tuna I’ve had ever, but the dish as a whole was probably the most exciting way I’ve eaten tuna. Seriously delicious. The only disappointment was that we didn’t order dessert. I bet it would’ve been awesome, too.

The Spread: The buttery rolls they serve right away when you arrive are delicious. Our table ordered the Appetizer Trio(crab cakes, spring rolls and tuna tartar) and the Heirloom Tomato Salad. I only tried the tuna tartar and was very underwhelmed. The fish lacked flavor. For an entrée, I ordered the Summer Boil which was nicely seasoned and sizeable portion of seafood. I wish they’d given me more bread and/or a spoon to sop up some of the roasted corn broth. Others in my group were pleased with the pork chop. But the star of the night — and by far the table’s favorite — was the Huntley Sweet & Salty Sundae, a glass filled with vanilla gelato, peanuts, popcorn, caramel and more which came adorned with a giant potato chip, drizzled with chocolate syrup. YES. The Scene: Nice wraparound porch with outdoor seating. The Service: Our waiters were friendly.(Somewhat confused by the fact that we seemed to have about 4 different people take our orders, serve our food and pour our wine, but all of them were nice.) Service was a bit slow, but it wasn’t an issue for our group, as we wanted to spend time chatting together.

Holy delicious, upscale, super tasty food Batman! This place had some food that completely hit the spot. It’s pricey and the sides are all a la carte, but it’s worth it for a special event. We came here on my birthday and one of the last lines my girlfriend said before we left was«this may have been the best meal I have had since I moved to the area.» It feels fancy as soon as you arrive, the place is valet parking. Not often do I have a valet for my Thursday evening dinner but hey it’s my birthday why not. You have to be dressed up to go here, there is a giant sign that says«no casual attire.» I was in my work clothes so it wasn’t a problem. When you walk in you just feel fancy the way the ambiance is. Our table was in a darkly lit candle light setting, it was very nice. Powerful atmosphere. The bread comes with a very tasty garlic butter, it was addicting. For appetizer we got the miso spring rolls, they were nice to try but nothing spectacular. What was spectacular though were all the dishes we had for dinner. My girlfriend got the Hanger Steak which was cooked to perfection and precut into strips for her. Each bite was great. I got the Ahi Tuna based off one of my server’s recommendations and he used the term«it almost feels like it cooks and melts in your mouth as you eat it.» He wasn’t kidding. This Tuna was great and every bite was better than the last. Our sides(which are a la carte) were the corn and the pulled pork Mac and cheese. Words cannot express how it blew me away. The BBQ sauce mixed with the fresh mac and cheese really worked well. The corn made it feel like summer coming right off the cob. It’s rare that both my gf and I are completely satisfied with our meals. I would have given this place 5 stars but the service was a little weird. Our server was Joe, but some other lady came to us and introduced herself, and we put an appetizer in with her. Then Joe came by and introduced himself and she ran over his shoulder to tell him we already ordered something for appetizer. It felt kind of awkward and made us a little uncomfortable. Then after dinner Joe came by and talked to us about dessert. A minute after that the girl came by to ask if we wanted anything for dessert, but since it was my birthday we weren’t told that I was getting a free ice cream with a candle so we wound up getting both the dessert we ordered AND the free birthday ice cream. They seemed to be a little off on their communication. I assume one of them was training the other? The food and ambiance were so great that the whole server debacle sort of added to a great story for a great night that we had at the Huntley Tavern. If you are looking for a place to go on a special occasion this is a place I highly recommend.

This place has some pretty mixed reviews, but overall I had a nice experience. It might have to do with my party of 10 loud family members, the abundance of wine, a private room, and the fact that I didn’t have to pay for my meal, but the food was pretty good. Calamari: My aunt wanted the calamari served with red sauce instead of on a salad. It was breaded lightly with corn meal, nothing special but not too heavy or greasy like some restaurants. The sauce was basic, but made with fresh tomatoes.(4⁄5) Taverne Board: This was awesome! Our waiter told us that the chef started to cure the prosciutto when he first started working here 3 years ago, and it was just now ready.(5⁄5) Creamy Stracciatella: Also delicious, but the portion was tiny. I could use a whole plate for myself.(5⁄5) House Made Mozzarella Wood Fired Pizza: I am an aspiring pizza connoisseur, so this was a little underwhelming for me. The bottom of the pizza wasn’t cooked all the way through, making it soggy and floppy. My aunt ordered one and got spring salad mix on top instead of arugula, which made me shed a tear inside.(2.5÷5) Crispy Miso Monkfish: I should have known that«crispy» means«we’ll fry it in cornmeal like all of our appetizers because we don’t really know what to do with a monkfish,» but, alas, I let this vague adjective get the best of me. I couldn’t even taste the miso, and it pretty much tasted like a Panda Express-style Kung Pao glaze. Cous cous was good but not redeeming for the dish. I’m the only who didn’t like it at my table, though, so maybe I’m crazy. If they have the halibut, get that instead.(2⁄5) Milk and Honey Bread Pudding: It’s as good as it sounds.(5⁄5) Chocolate Pudding Cream Pie: No one can do chocolate pudding like we do in the South, so I got my hopes up a little high. Crust was meh.(3⁄5)

First time visit Summit, thought to try a highly-reviwed restaurant from Unilocal. It turned out, the service was very slow. We had to remind the server to bring out our food. I did not mind waiting for the food if the food is amazing. I was disappointed when I see my filet mignon wrap, with soggy cressy fries. We also ordered The Huntley Taverne seasonal salad with chicken, oh my! They hid the unfresh, black looking lettucs underneath. The food just made us not hungry anymore. we are definitely not coming back again.

I have eaten here 5 – 6 times. Not exactly sure what all the hype is about. It’s a great local option for us, although in general, I consider it overpriced. The main problem with the food is that it is over salted. That is why after 2 trials at the menu, we chose a different restaurant for my dad’s 75th birthday party. The Flatbreads week very salty although otherwise tasty. Same with many of their entrees. Did have some very enjoyable salads, including a grain one which was amazing. Great wine options, just high priced. Like the cool vibe of the restaurant, but at peak times the noise level is just really too much. Overall, I now only go here when a group decides that this is the restaurant they want. Otherwise, I would be elsewhere.
