So glad we found this gem on Summerland. The pastrami, New Yorker, sandwich was perfect. Hubby had tri-tip, which was bbq’d on the front lawn. Yummy!

If you can find this place, you found a goldmine. Great deli with their own twists. I got a pulled pork sandwich with a side of jambalaya and cowboy caviar. I’m happy.

This place has such good deli sandwiches. We split a turkey and American on wheat. They let you have all the condiments such as lettuce, tomato, sprouts and dill pickles complimentary. It’s a market, so you can grab a bottle of wine, a bag of chips and have a picnic at one of the many outside tables overlooking the ocean. Prices are fair and they have tri tip that cook outside every Saturday! It’s conveniently located right off the 101. Definitely will be back!

Seriously overpriced. For example, protein bars we get at Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are $ 1.79 each(retail price but they are usually on sale at 4 for $ 5). Here, they were $ 2.59 each. That should give you an idea of the mark up on everything across the board. We stopped here for lunch on the way home from Santa Ynez. I was underwhelmed by the piece of cold grilled salmon I got from the deli with a side of «Greek» salad for $ 12 plus tax. It was just okay. Won’t be coming back. But on the upside, they do carry some unique/gourmet items that may be hard to find elsewhere.

What is going on there??? Hire the handy cap they are fun to watch! I would of wrote sooner but I was a little preoccupied with food poisoning! I can’t even begin but let me just say I got so sick from a pre packed salad that I can never go back! I’m a local and go in at least once a day and I’m so disappointed! The past weeks I have ordered sandwiches that are completely not what I ask for! Who puts shredded cheese in a sandwich any way? The service is so un-friendly when you walk in and know one even knows what they are doing! It’s sad because our choices are so Limited in Summerland so there’s nowhere really else to go. Please get it together people and throw out all your old food!!! Health dept. should close you down!!!

Last stop on our way back to L.A. Needed some caffeine for the last leg of the drive. Small market, with lots of convenience items. They have a deli in the back which appeared to be popular. They house a large collection of wines here. Saw some fresh pastries up front, but we just bought a coffee and went on our way. Ample parking and close to the 101 freeway.

Really pricey and the prosciutto was cut so thick I couldn’t even bite through it. Disappointing.

Holy snikies, this place is really really expensive! Looks like they have a lot of healthy offerings but still, this takes gauging to a whole new level! 7.00 for almond milk?

The deli makes a mean omelette and the ice tea is always fresh. If you go in around the weekend they have a great California BBQ with Tri-Tip and Chicken. Great food/great value.

Get your wallet ready, very high prices for basics. The prepared food is delicious but you pay for the convenience. This is a very high end gourmet market. They have candles for $ 60. Get your $ 12 vegetarian sandwich and sit at the picnic tables outside. They have a nice selection of wine also.

This store has an excellent selection of wine, both local and imported. It also has a fairly good deli and their weekend BBQ out in front is excellent. Which is why it’s all so disappointing that the store can’t really be utilized as a neighborhood market in any other capacity. They simply do not restock often enough or check their expiration dates. I KEEPFALLINGFORIT! In October, I got some wine, cheese and crackers for unexpected guests. The crackers I picked had expired the previous January. They were limp. In March of this year, I got a bottle of water that tasted plastic-y and it had an expiration date of six months prior. Did you even know water expires? Apparently, they don’t at Cantwells. The nail in the coffin was yesterday when I got a piece of string cheese as a snack and tasted horribly sour. Expired June 2nd2014. Sure hope I don’t get sick. Glad I’m not elderly, immune compromised or anything. Bottom line: Would be a great local, neighborhood market if not for the out of date food/poison dodging.

I love this place. Don’t get confused… this is not a big chain store with huge aisles of every cereal known to man. It’s a wonderful little neighborhood shopping spot. There’s nothing else quite like it. They always seem to have what I need and I usually leave with a few interesting new items. On my last visit, I went in for limes and left with(of course) limes + a bag of pistachios and some chocolate bars which had love poems printed inside the wrapper. They’ve got a great deli with yummy prepared food. Nice beer & wine selection. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. There are some nice picnic tables outside.

Intimate, clean, fresh, and friendly, are the words that come to mind when I think of Cantwell’s. This market is a great spot to grab a little lunch if you aren’t in the mood to cook or spend your ducats at a restaurant. The deli has good amount of fresh salads and hearty dishes to choose from, so it is generally where you will find me. The curry chicken salad and bbq are my favorites, but all of it is legit. The market itself has a decent wine selection and enough produce and proteins to do your standard grocery shopping, but for some reason I’ve never indulged. It feels like the type of place you only buy a couple days worth of goods from– probably because I am so conditioned to places with obscene amounts of choices like Albertson’s or Trader Joe’s. Great. Now I feel bad about myself. This place is amazing. If I were a better person I’d do all my grocery shopping here.

Awesome little shop, tucked alongside the main road. Stop in to check it out. The isles are packed with good healthy bites and EVERYTHING you need. I could complete my whole shopping list and I’m used to two stories of Whole Foods(Pasadena). There are a lot of Organic options. A whole back wall devoted to cold beverages with a wide variety from the very conventional Coca Cola to the very alternative GT’s Kombucha. Here, they sit side by side awaiting your selection. There’s also a wide variety of health snack food for the traveler passing through; food bars line the ends of the first and second isle. Cookies surround in a back freezer case and along one isle. Chips and crunchy stuff pack another. From floor to ceiling this place is filled with options. You’ll find what you’re looking for. So ti is worth stopping in. I do every time I pass through. Thanks Cantwells!

Love all the yummy food from its deli display case. It was a fun place to stop for coconut water and lunch part way during our bike ride. :) Great outdoor seating, I can’t wait to ride my bike here again!!!

This was a surprise! As soon as my husband spotted the huge grill out front loaded with Tri-tip, chicken and ribs, he couldn’t pull over fast enough! We ordered the tri-tip along with corn on the cob and a side of rice with pico de gallo. We sat at the tables provided inside, WOW it was cooked to perfection, the pico had a little kick! Everything was delish! Nice country market with a good variety!

A quick stop before hitting Santa Barbara — and a charmer indeed! Off the highway, and down a street lies this cute market! Lush greenery, patio tables and meat on a grill right outside! A wrap around porch welcomed us as we walked into the entry and gazed upon tons of goodies and treats. Imagine it like your local Italian Deli and Market, its like that but more vegan and GF options. This is a great place to stop on your road trip — food, scenery and some r&r.
