This place is closed Owner decided to retire. She said the 30th was the last day but when we went to have lunch today, a sign was up as closed for good since the 15th.

My favorite sushi place, period! My dad has had sushi in Japan countless times and is a huge sushi snob, the fish here is ridiculously fresh every single time and the service is impeccable. If you’re a true sushi lover, the amaebi and the uni are must orders. we won’t go anywhere else after trying all the other places on Ventura, Matsuda is by far the most authentic and fresh.

The fish is extremely fresh. I am someone who prefers simple dishes(sashimi, nigiri as opposed to a Dragon Roll) and am always impressed by the yellowtail sashimi here. The prices are also reasonably priced for the quality of fish served.

Excellent food but do not go here when they are busy! They seat you and you don’t eat for an hour and a half… terrrrible

My absolute favorite sushi spot. You could easily drive past this unsuspecting store front but inside is a treasure chest of the freshest fish and sushi specialties. I live in Marina Del Rey but will happily drive to the valley, specifically for them, any day. If I could, I’d give them more than 5 stars!

Very tasty blue fin toro and the spicy albacore roll was also delicious per other reviews. Most impressed by their diverse pricing. The courtesy orange was icing on the cake.

Best little sushi house on Ventura. Clean, great service, fresh fish and very reasonably priced. So glad I found this spot. I will definitely be coming back again.

Great fresh sushi, friendly owner and staff What more could you ask for? Not too pricey for the good quality fish. I’ve ordered everything on the menu and it was delicious. It’s my go-to sushi spot.

Sushi and service are totally on point. You will not go wrong here, it’s all fresh and tasty, and service is nonstop, I never waited for anything. That said, The rolls are more traditional Japanese style, and by that I mean very small. Pop in your mouth in one bite, it is a perfect scrumptious mix of seaweed, rice and fish, but $ 7 for six little bites of a yellowtail roll can add up to a very expensive bill very quickly. However they have many combo deals. Like a three hand roll set for only $ 11. Realistically, this is a $$$ restaurant. 4 stars because the sushi was great, but overpriced.

I was driving down the street with a friend and noticed how many stars this place had and we thought we have to try it. I’m so sad to say it was so bad :(the waitress and host were extremely sweet but the sushi chef we got, mumbled & looked so unenthusiastic of being there and didn’t really make great sushi. The food itself did not taste fresh ATALL. The crunchy rice cake with spicy tuna was stale and the spicy tuna tasted like it had been sitting there for days. The rest of the food we got was the same. I left there feeling like I had lost my appetite and so dissatisfied. :/never coming back here.

I’m now on a sushi phase, and this restaurant did satisfy my cravings for a day. We came in during lunch time, and ordered from their lunch specials– I believe it was the Ventura Blvd for around $ 22. We checked in for free edaname for Unilocal, but also got it in our special which ended up being too much. The special came with edaname, miso soup, blue crab hand roll, yellowtail sashimi, cucumbers, and chef choice’s cut. We ended up getting three pieces of white fish, which was not enough for me as everything was very light. I really enjoyed the cut and the quality of the fish; it was very fresh and tasted great. Some of the nigiri melted in my mouth, and the chef did put different sauces and toppings for each fish. I also ordered a salmon and snapper nigiri on the side, and the quality was again, delicious. I loved the salmon as the cut was great. Each nigiri order(2 pcs) was around $ 6 – 7. Great local place to stop by and grab fresh sushi for lunch! I would not recommend getting the Ventura Blvd as I was still hungry after, but it does offer a great variety.

Matsuda Happy Hour was not the happiest of occasions for me. Though clean and in a great location this restaurant left me ultra disappointed. Shrimp ShuMai– THEWORST! I know that it is partially my fault for ordering a classic Chinese dish in a sushi restaurant but I had just been to Din Tai Fung and was still reverberating. Three small, mushy, seemingly store bought dumplings, each evidently valued at $ 1.25 a piece! This is an insult to your patrons you should be ashamed to even present this pathetic and tasteless crap to your customers. You can purchase an entire bag of these disgusting little suckers at any Asian grocery for around $ 5. This one dish lost them 2 stars on my rating, which didn’t start at 5. Take this off your menu Hand rolls $ 3.50– Not bad though it seems they were containing only mushed up mayo latent fish scraps. The albacore cucumber crunch roll was actually tasty despite the fish having the texture of toothpaste. Unclear on the concept of Happy Hour. Happy Hour is supposed to draw people to your establishment so they get an idea of how great it is. This happy incentive is in hope that those who arrive for Happy Hour are having such a good time that they stay and buy from the regular menu or come back during regular hours since they know it is great. Happy Hours are not made to screw customers with pathetic excuses for dishes like those three shitty dumplings and pasty fish hand rolls. Even though I would imagine that this restaurant would be better while not during Happy Hour, I feel duped and will only return if it is completely unavoidable.

The Japanese lady(I guess she is the owner) she is so wonderful. I like her good energy. I felt so welcomed, and other staff r very nice too. The oyster is not bad. Finally, I found a place has decent oyster in American. I’m very picky about it. The spicy tuna biscuit is my fav. Their dessert looks so good but I haven’t try yet coz I’ve had too much before dessert lol Also, it’s not crowd! Yeah!

What a nice bunch of people that work there. Enjoyed the peppered tuna sashimi and the tuna chunk sashimi. The rolls were ok. Not overly flavorful. Service was great. Nice small place.

4.5 stars. This family-owned restaurant is super charming, friendly and has super fresh fish. Their 3 handroll for $ 10 lunch special was one of my first meals in Studio City, and the chirashi bowl for dinner was tasty, especially the salmon and the tamago. They’re dog friendly(two patio tables outside) and they have dedicated parking spaces! Daichan is still my all-time favorite, but Matsuda is where I go for a quality sushi bar experience.

As we all know Ventura Boulevard has a lot of great and bad sushi restaurants, and Matsuda is one of the great one. I have been to Matsuda a couple of time now once for dinner, and now lunch. I have to say Matsuda has a great lunch menu. From the lunch special you can choose from your sushi, rolls, and your chicken teriyaki. They also have 3 hand rolls special for $ 9 for lunch. Their service is excellent, and friendly. My lunch was a 5pcs nigiri and albacore crunch roll. The nigiri was fresh well put together. The albacore crunch roll was excellent, and for the price it was well spent. Kanpachi nigiri was delish. The Kanpachi was very fresh. I love the way they serve it. Correction!!! How it supposed to be serve with a little glaze of nikiri sauce. Fresh live Hotate was truly awesome. Super fresh and sweet. The way they prepare it was on point. With a little squeeze of lemon, sea salt, and just a little yuzu kosho. Just perfect!
