Fast friendly service. Food is delivered fast to your table so there is only a short wait. Had chicken breast that was extremely dry had to use the average house barbecue sauce to get it down. Nice salad bar that seemed fresh.

Wow what a disappointing lunch today. The outside façade and the smell of burning wood gave me the illusion that I was in for a real treat. My friend and I are always looking for excellent BBQ. I had the pulled pork he had the sliced pork. My test is to taste the meat without any sauce for that rich smokey flavor. Neither the sliced or the pulled pork had the slightest hint of a rich smoky flavor. Indicating to me that the meat was probably cooked in a conventional oven without a slightest hint of even liquid smoke. Do you even have a smoker on property or does the dishwasher have to go out back and throw a log in a barrel once in a while to keep the illusion going? The green beans have been simmering to the stage of near mush. What boggles my mind is– yes I understand you are in business to make money, but are you that blinded by greed to the point that your product suffers. I’m sorry to say but your restaurant has great promise but you only want to be the typical status quo for this area. I just expected a little more for my $ 35.00 check. Maybe the next group will do better.

First time coming to the pig and cattle and it was a great experience! Our server Mekayla walked us through the menu and suggested the brisket sandwich which was amazing. She was very welcoming and treated us like family. I’ll definitely be back to sit with her for dinner again!

The banner marquee out front seeking full time cooks was the first sign that we should have kept driving up US1 instead of stopping in for the«BBQ» served here. I can’t grasp the factual basis for any of the reviews touting the fare offered here as the best BBQ in the area. Compared to BBQ served where? In prisons? Local hospitals? If BBQ was served out of a vending machine, it would taste like the BBQ served here. Everything tastes like it was canned; except for the onion rings which tasted like they were directly from the frozen food case at Sam’s Club up the street. The tired worn interior of this establishment only accentuates this dreadful experience. The only reason I am extending two stars is because of our friendly server. The food served here is a solid canned one star.

Great barbecue, reasonable prices, casual, clean, and family-friendly…can’t ask for much more when you have starving kids who just played sports and are still in their uniforms. Barbecue seemed like a good choice and Unilocal reviews were positive. I have to agree and Southern definitely earns a solid 4 stars IMO. That said: stick to the ‘cue. I had the beef brisket served over garlic bread and a generous serving of turnip greens. I LOVE my greens, especially when they are made with bacon or pulled pork. Done right here. They offered a bottle of vinegar steeped in banana peppers — yum. One better. Daughter demolished two cheeseburger sliders(post game hungries) which was great for a kids’ portion. Son and husband ordered shrimp and catfish which was just OK. Like I said, stick to the ‘cue… Love that soft serve at the end of the meal is complimentary. :)

Read great reviews for this place, but BEYOND disappointed after going. Everything looks like it came out of a can and heated up like the food that is served at retirement homes. Salad bar was nothing special, super boring. They make it seem like there’s a great ice cream bar, and it actually just one small self-serve ice cream machine like the ones you see at the movie theaters. The food is NOT worth the prices they put on their menu. #dontgo

We were not planning on eating here Friday night but decided to check it out on our way to a restaurant in Downtown Stuart… Needless to say we didn’t go to the restaurant in downtown Stuart… Glad we ate here because food was quite delish and the service was AWESOME the price was reasonable… We will definitely go there again … It was the first time I had White Zinfandel and it tasted really good I would recommend this place any day

Not bad. I’m used to KCBBQ, the BBQ capital of the world so my review might be a little picky. Their pulled pork didn’t have a lot of flavor and their BBQ sauce was overcompensated with sugar. Customer service was fantastic though. I’m from the Midwest where BBQ is a way of like. Ha ha. Maybe I’m being too hard on them.

Just had dinner here tonight, and it was DELICIOUS! First thing that was great was the endless soup and salad bar. $ 4.99 is a fair price, and the chicken and dumpling soup was good enough for me to go back and get a second bowl. The salad and soup bars were clean and well stocked. I ordered the full rack of baby back ribs, with corn bread, fries, and mac-n-cheese. My grandfather had the smoked pork, which came out with a beautiful smoke ring. My baby back ribs were juicy, tender, and fell off the bone! The meat was so tasty, as was the BBQ sauce it was dripping with(bought two bottles to take back to Long Island). Again, great smoke ring. In fact, my hands still have a smokey smell to them! The corn bread was warm and tasty. The fries were perfectly golden brown, and creamy inside. The mac-n-cheese was OK. Good cook on the pasta, but it was clear the cheese sauce was out of a can, which was a bit of a letdown. Finish off the meal with the make-your-own-ice-cream-cone station, and you’re full and beyond satisfied. Fix the mac-n-cheese«problem», and its a flawless meal. Friendly on the wallet, and very friendly staff. Will absolutely be back!

Pretty Good for Gas Fired BBQ…2.5 Stars An additional .5 stars for the hot sauce it’s pretty good. We tried the ribs, brisket and pork, knowing going in the meats are sliced on a mechanical slicer super thin deli style which is against everything I love about BBQ but I decided to give them a try anyway. The restaurant itself is very clean, and there is plenty of self seating to choose from and ample parking so this establishment has everything going for it in that respect. The server was great explaining the choices and giving her honest opinion of her preferences when asked. Opinion #1 Hand Craved meats are better because they stay moist and your able to get the full flavor so unless you have concerns about the quality of meat you receive from your meat purveyor, or the meat is consistently tough or portion control is your concern bbq should be hand sliced with a knife verses a deli meat slicer similar to what is used in a supermarket. Opinion #2 It is impossible to taste the hand rubbed seasoning on deli style sliced meats and it completely eliminates the bark if there is any. It also allows you to skip any trimming that may be needed so you sell all the fat that comes naturally. Sliced Brisket — not much flavor perfect for sandwiches or to drown in sauce if eaten with a fork, very tender just fold and eat, you get it all no trimming required sliced paper thin. Sliced Pork — not much flavor perfect for sandwiches or to drown in sauce if eaten with a fork very tender just fold and eat, you get it all no trimming required sliced paper thin. Spare Ribs — I prefer them naked and I will add the sauce of my choice if required(it was required) absent of any bark or dry rub more roasted than BBQ again it’s gas fired and they don’t advertise otherwise. Garlic Bread — loved it very similar to Sonny’s or Dustin’s. Green Beans — nothing outstanding they were pretty good I think they are frozen or canned but prepared in house to try and give them some uniqueness. I would order them again. Mac & Cheese — made in house not a bad choice firm, tender and cheesy. Corn on the Cobb — boiled or steam tender served in butter(throw these in the gas fired pit and you have a winner). Iced Tea — very good and refills to go if you choose. Free Ice Cream — great way to finish up. Nothing was overly disappointing since I knew what to expect, I’d say looking at the reviews most are happy when they leave I believe it’s most likely better than most in the area and on par with the two chains I mentioned earlier. Question If a steak house sliced your steak paper thin prior to serving it up to you would you return?
