I can’t help but apply what I learned in Economics class to Chuck’s. Yes the first time around coming to this place was exciting. But after every following visit, my marginal utility decreased as I was not as satisfied as the previous visits. Do I sound like an intellectual yet?! Moving on, we were fortunate to have a good server and my vegetable panini was on point. I loved the mushrooms and roasted veggies inside. Sandwich wasn’t soggy and stayed crispy. Sweet potato fries and maple icing dip on thee side were yummy. Also got the Chaugie’s Fried Mozz Appetizer, separate pieces on top of a thin layer of marinara sauce. This was delicious. Recommend. I proceeded to order dessert because I was so satisfied. I got the S’mores Sundae and cowabunga! Did this satisfy my sweet tooth. Served in an adorable glass mason jar and the toasted s’mores aligned on a skewer. The presentation was mouth-savoring. I would order just that, skip the entrée and all, just that I want. The following visits: –Staff not a problem. Expect good service. Cringe-worthy pile: –Boneless chicken wings doused in some kind of BBQ sauce. Awful, way too much sauce and too salty. –Veggie panini again but it was bad. Soggy, and not at all tasty as my first visit. Trial and error. No consistency in quality. Thumbs down to Chuck’s for that. Congratulations you made it into honorable mentions pile: –Chicken Quesadilla Panini– alright, very cheesy, a bit bland –Butternut Bisque Soup– daily special. Was sub-par. –Pasta your Way(custom pasta) — penne pasta w. alfredo and breaded chicken. Portion was large. Okay. Nothing special. Make it at home instead. –Came in for C&A’s 10th anniversary, got small complimentary yellow cupcakes(2 for the two of us) with a ganache like filling and topped with an edible sugar label with the words Chuck and Augie’s on it. Wish they had this on the menu regularly. It tasted perfect, we almost requested more to-go. –Super tall 20ish layer chocolate cake on dessert menu enough to feed 2 hungry people. This cake is made up of a variety of chocolate. Other problems that arose: Customers are typically given an appetizer basket full of dinner rolls and twisted puff pastry sticks w. butter but we hadn’t received them every time. During every visit, I always noticed certain tables with it and others w/o. We either had to remind the server to bring it or assume that we weren’t special enough to get them. Still a mystery to me.

Their vegetable panini with fresh mozzarella and a side of sweet potato fries with maple dipping sauce had always been my go-to order here as a student. However, I have since changed my eating habits to be plant-based vegan. I got to eat here for Valentine’s Day with my fiancé, and was delighted to find that they were fine subbing out the mozzarella and pesto mayo for me and subbing in extra avocado. The panini and fries were just as good as I remember them being! This place is great for people with dietary restrictions, everything from vegan to gluten-free. For many of their menu items, they offer subbing in a vegan breaded soy filet, Dr. Praeger’s kale burger, tofu, or Beyond Meat vegan chicken strips. The friends I’ve eaten with have also recommended the smoked turkey panini, grilled burger, and mushroom ravioli. As a healthier dessert, order the mango sorbet – you won’t regret it!(Sadly they were out when we went.) The servers here are all students, but I’ve found that it’s been nothing but impressive. The last awesome bit I learned about Chuck & Augie’s from their menu is that, whenever possible, their recipes use ingredients that are sourced locally. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food they provide, and they bring you warm bread with your drink. Students can also use points from their meal plans after 3:00PM.

UConn Dining Services really blew it out of the water with this one. As long as you can distract yourself from the facts that the original UConn landowners are buried right beneath your feet as you eat and that you’re in the Student Union, it begins to seem like you’re at a casual restaurant. The spirits haunting the place are surprisingly not a bother at all — Chuck & Augie are pretty nice guys even though they were cheated out of their farmland way back when. If you’re a student looking to use up your points before the end of the year so your mom and dad don’t change your meal plan to a cheaper one, Chuck & Augie’s is a must.

Is this a real restaurant? They accept«points…» The food tastes exactly how one might expect; mediocre quality, loud atmosphere located conveniently in the student union. At least the wait staff is lovely. They are always chirping about, but that really doesn’t excuse the fact that most dishes are repugnant and desserts are simply inedible.

Dining options on the UConn Storrs campus as limited, but if you are looking for a sit-down meal that is consistently good head over to Chuck & Augie’s located in the Student Union. I’ve only had one bad meal here, and that was when they attempted to do phở. Bleh! Horrible. But their salads, sandwiches, and every other soup I’ve had are quite good. They make their own fresh mozzarella cheese and they source ingredients from local farmers. Service is decent(college students) and prices are fair(figure around $ 10, give or take). They also serve beer and wine, and feature the famous UConn ice cream for dessert.

I hate to say it, but it’s still just freakin’ college food. I mean, yes, it’s a sit down restaurant. They serve you food that is prepared by cooks. But when that food is a slightly different permutation of the same exact ingredients used in the dining halls, coffee shops, and food courts around campus, the result just isn’t worth it. The waitstaff is extremely nice — clearly they hire the more pleasant, less drunk students at the University of Connecticut. But when the food is more or less identical to the food court [which is in the same BUILDING], there’s little point to going here, unless you really want the honor of being served a meal. «I don’t want to get ice cream, I want to be SERVED ice cream!» –Some TV show or movie from like 10 years ago.
