This one was on the bottom of our list for the weekend. The tasting was just a tasting. Atmosphere lacking. No food choices. No music. Not a great experience. They do not stand out in the array of wineries in this area.

This was the 2nd stop on a wine tour we went on and the place we had lunch. The ambiance is great, the people were really friendly(especially the owner who greeted us) but the wines were only ok. There was crystals in one of the white wines which was weird to me. The other wines were good but not great(compared to other wineries we had gone to.) My group spent more time enjoying lunch than wine… not what you want from winery!

We visited the Woodrose Winery on a beautiful December afternoon. Mike, the owner, and his dog gave us a tour of the entire operation. The winery is a traditional Texas ranch with wide views of the country side. Be sure to try the Reserve Tempranillo 2008 as it is quite good and will not disappoint.

Went here on a wine tour. Bought some wine– trying to support small business. Once home & opened, found they all had tartrate crystals. I contacted the winery & they were apathetic. Poor customer service, wine that wasn’t cheap, topped by the fact that I wasn’t able to consume it… with no effort to reconcile? No thanks.

I’m leaving 2 stars bc the venue is nice and we got an extra taste of wine at the end(bc several of our tastes were straight vinegar). Maybe some people might like vinegar for wine, but I am not one of them. Seriously, we were given vinegar to drink. I prefer good quality wine; will stick with Grape Creek or Becker from now on.

Absolutely love this place. Every time we’re here we stop by Woodrose and hang out, drink great wine and often have some delicious food to go with it. I’m a full bodied red wine drinker and these wines are my favorite in the hill country! You won’t get this uniquely great tasting wine from any of the others. But it’s not just about the wine, we’ve made some wonderful friends with those that work here. Shout out to Melanie, Robin, Mike, Linda and Kim.

Oof. We were recommended this place based on the fact that they have a dog(see: the second star I gave), but man, everything else was not great. The service was not so good. We went for the tasting and a cheese plate, and they informed us that they were out of one of the cheeses plus the sausage on the cheese plate. Our waiter said he would get us a discount because of the missing items, but that didn’t happen when we got rung up at the end. None of the waiters seemed to care for any of the wines(they were trash talking them a lot while we did our tasting) and didn’t give us really any info about them as we sampled. We’re not wine snobs or experts or anything at all, but we’re trying to learn about wine and what we like, so the information would have been appreciated. Additionally, we didn’t really LIKE any of the wines, and we are really not picky. Overall, it was definitely the low point of the wineries we went to. I recommend spending your time at any of the other ones.

They are getting an extra star simply based on service. We came into town on a sleepy Thursday, July 2 before the town exploded on Friday for the holiday weekend. We arrived a little over an hour before close and ended up being her last table. Despite it being closing time, she offered tastes of the reserve reds. They’re far better than the reds we tasted on the menu. I like their table service style-personal, intimate tasting that we know and love from TX hill country.

Wines were the worst I have EVER tasted — worse than Pietro del Torre… and those were BAD. Nice staff, but can’t make up for terrible wine.

We love the place, not the wines. This is the 4th time I’ve been here and we really like the outdoor seating, the friendly staff, and the dog. Sitting on their outdoor porch area is really relaxing. We will keep coming back hoping for a better wine selection.

I feel like such a terrible person for leaving 2 stars but the wines I had here were not that great. The staff was so friendly but the wine… I just can’t get over the flavors and they didn’t seem to work well together. When I visited it was part of a tour. We had lunch at the winery. They set up the wine pairings with BBQ from different places in the US. It was rather odd and some of it wasn’t that great. I would have much rather had standard Italian. The venue itself is pretty nice. It is like a dance hall style. It is pretty large and there is also a large wrap around covered deck. The restrooms are located outside the venue which is kinda cool. They were nice and well kept. I appreciate the hard work that goes into having a winery but the Woodrose wines just aren’t for me.

The wines smelled weird, and tasted even weirder. I’ve never wanted a tasting to be over so fast. I feel bad having nothing good to say, at most smaller wineries the owners pour their heart and soul into each bottle. The service was good, especially considering that they could probably tell that we hated the wines. And the non-typical sit at the table and get served a flight of wine was pretty cool. Honestly, I’m not sure what kind of pallet would enjoy those wines.

Woodrose was the second place I’ve ever had a wine tasting in my life. So I really wasn’t sure what to expect. My girlfriend had been to a few and assured me that it was an abnormal presentation… You choose a «flight“of wine(which means a selection of wines to be tasted) and then you sit at a table on a charming little deck under the trees. I had the sweet flight, Amanda had the red flight. And we got a little cheese plate. The wine was not that great. And neither was the cheese. The best parts of the experience here were the crackers, the ambiance, and the house puppy(a handsome old Golden Retriever). I think that if they had some better wine and cheese, it would be a top-notch operation. I wish I could make some suggestions that would help, but this isn’t really my area: P

Not very good wine. Robin was so sweet but wine wasn’t that great and they have table service. Meaning there isn’t a counter. We do tastings at a table and poor Robin runs around giving tastings to whomever is there. Not very orthodox. A counter would be much better.

Been to a couple, not my favorite. Skip it if you don’t have a lot of time. Good music though, not so much the wine

Oh man… I am sorry but the wine we tasted here was terrible. The atmosphere was great, and the turkey dinner we were served was very tasty, but the wine was subpar at best. We thought the red would be better, but sadly we all left with a bad taste, literally, in our mouths. No one even purchased a bottle in our entire group. Like I said though, the turkey dinner was delicious and homemade. I have to say the pumpkin pie is one of the best I have ever had. I would say there are better options in this area for wine tasting but for food it is a good stop.

Pleasant little Winery for an afternoon tasting and cheese snack. Make sure and say hello to Cork. He’s not big on the wine but seems to love the cheese.

I really like how at this winery you get to sit down and enjoy the tasting on the back deck with live music — fun. That is the biggest draw for me because at some other places you are rushed and there are people waiting behind you. Only problem with it is that often my wife and I share a tasting then buy a glass, but that doesn’t really work with the way they are set up. The servers were nice and the wine seemed good to me, though I am no expert. I do agree with some other reviews there was a bit of a hard sell — bit more than some other places, but I definitely plan to go back. Main issue I have is that it is so far from town!

Woodrose is one of the 4 oldest wineries on the 290 wine road. They have a large vineyard onsite and two tasting areas. We came with a group so we started out in the large event space area that is nice for events, but for a tasting room looses out on ambiance. But with all the tour groups, I can see how this space must be a necessity at times. We managed to head over to the smaller tasting room with a lovely outdoor patio tucked into the trees in the back. This was definitely more like it. They were OK with pets outside. The staff was friendly and brought over a menu. I like that they have several different wine flights to choose from at about $ 8. The prices here were actually lower than I have seen at other places. There is an extensive menu of options, so we definitely just got a sampling here and there. Overall the wines were good to OK in taste. However, there were two standouts that would bring me back for purchases, and for a relaxing afternoon on the patio. My ultimate favorite was the 2011 Barrel Aged Chenin Blanc, we got 2 bottles for only 36.19. However, I heard from the owner as we were leaving, that the most recent year of that wine is even better! Definitely going back to check that out. My second favorite was a very interesting wine, the White Tempernillo. It was a unique combination of spicy, peppery, and sweet. The owner was friendly, passionate and informative.

The service is slow. The hosts were not welcoming to us at all. I don’t think anyone in our group really enjoyed anything. They had some local talent singing that day and the female singer had a great voice, but besides her, the only thing we liked about Woodrose Winery was the resident golden retriever, Cork.
