Great food. Great portions. Horrible customer service. This place would have 5 stars if the customer service wasn’t so bad. They also need to update their menu to adequately reflect the prices of items. I purchased a soda based and based on the menu, it’s priced at $ 3.00. The employee tried to charge me $ 6.00 because she gave me a large soda and the price of a large soda isn’t listed on the menu! What’s worse is she thought it was okay to do that. TERRIBLE customer service!

Probably the worst food I have ever eaten, Jamaican or otherwise. Usually Golden Krust restaurants are good so I went with good things in mind. I was fooled even more when I walked in and saw several people in line ordering 3 plates of food each. I ordered the curry goat(I was craving it) and didn’t question it when the lady serving me spooned what was supposed to be gravy on my rice and peas, but looked more like thin broth. It wasn’t until I got home and began eating that I started to question my decision. The goat was tough(I’m still picking pieces of it out of my teeth) and whatever they seasoned it with made it taste sour(if it hadn’t just gone bad, which I’m starting to think it did) and it tasted nothing like curry, even though I’m 100% sure the lady heard me order curry goat. The rice and peas were acceptable but I couldn’t finish them because they were drowning in the horrible«gravy» from the curry goat. I’m not a huge fan of plantain but even if I was I still would’ve been disappointed. They were chewy and hard as a rock, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had been sitting out for a while. My best friend(who is a tried-and-true Jamaican) was surprised when I told her how terrible it was because Golden Krust is known for being the go-to Jamaican restaurant wherever you are. I’m still amazed that so many people were buying food from there, and they looked like regulars! Overall, just plain terrible. This specific Golden Krust has permanently lost a customer.

I was waited on by veronica, very pleasant and friendly. I am from Jamaica and was visiting from Michigan, I haven’t had any authentic Jamaican food. I ordered the red snapper delicious my husband ordered oxtails and rice which he couldn’t put hus fork down. My father-in-law had the curry chicken and loved it. The spicy beef patties was a treat and something I will come back for. I ordered spicy shrimp in the shell tasted like I was back in Jam down. Definitely island food and food your mama would cook for Sunday dinner. We will be back.

Every time I see a golden krust, it brings back memories of college in Brooklyn, NY. During lunch or a break I would go to golden krust and get 2 spicy beef patties. Even today when I see the farmiliar logo I have to stop in. Their patties are still piping hot and delicious. Their side dish of fried plaintain are equally good. I haven’t try their ox tail stew which I’m familiar with bc in Vietnamese cuisine we also use ox tail in beef broth for beef phở(for those who are not familiar with phở should try). I miss living in big cities where it’s multicultural and we learn from other cultures by trying their foods and learning about it. Even for those who are not adventurous start slow and go with the basics. You might change your mind and like it! :) Each golden Krust is a franchise and their meat or tofu or shrimp patty should not vary bc of franchise terms and agreements. I will try at this college park location bc the hotel is near the airport and will update and get more picture for the college park location. The location I went to today was at stone mountain and if you visit Stone Mountain park you should try the patty bc it is near by the park. The patty is still the same goodness and quality of how I remember it more than 10 yrs ago when I was in college.

After just one trip to Jamaica, I am in love with the cuisine. It’s that warm, spicy, comforting food full of flavor and character, just like the island itself. And since I can’t get to Jamaica on a regular basis, I’m glad Golden Krust is around. I had the curried goat and stewed oxtails. Both were literally finger licking good, cleaned off my whole plate. Every bite was a reminder of that beautiful island. The plantains were ripe and fried to my liking, soft and a little gooey. The prices are right, the portions are large, and if they still offer the recession special, what more can you ask for???

I love this place. I keep going back. If the deals weren’t around it’d probably be kinda expensive. But while the specials are going, its great food at affordable prices. On side note. The jerk chicken is pretty good, but probably not the best I’ve had. Stick with the stew chicken. It’s freaking good.
