ART Station

We went to see a watercolor show in the main art gallery. Parking was easy (the street spaces out front were all taken, but they have a side lot to the right of the entrance). I was pleasantly surprised that there was no entry fee for the gallery! I did make a donation, though (you should consider it too!).
The show was pretty good, though all were priced out of my range. My wife and I enjoyed browsing the displayed works, though. There was also a plein air exhibit downstairs, which we checked out.
The venue is in an old trolley barn (where the streetcar line from Atlanta terminated back around 1915 — 1948. They also appear to have a series of live theater presentations as well as some sort of periodic cabaret signers. The theater and bar-​area for the live shows looked interesting, so there is a chance we’ll return for that.
Worth a visit.

Caberet ⁰⁸⁄₂₉ with Michelle Martin singing and Patrick Hutchison on piano was awesome. It was a delightful evening. Do no miss it next time.

Great Space.
The building is a restored/​re-​purposed tram depot from Stone Mountain’s heyday.
Unremarkable from the outside, but once you go inside, you’ll be amazed. It’s spacious, beautifully restored and with constantly changing exhibits in the galleries upstairs. A rolling schedule of plays and other performances downstairs. Some appeal to me, some don’t, there’s something for everybody. This place is Stone Mountain’s best kept secret.
They don’t really advertise and their website looks like it’s from 1996. That costs them a star.

This place is an amazing addition to Stone Mountain! They have shows, art galleries, art classes and a gift shop!

A local venue not to miss. If you love the arts, including art gallery and live music, plays you need to spend time here and support them. The building started out as the old trolley car barn and the Board of Trustrees purchased & the renovate the 1913 decaying structure began. The ART Station staff are all working arts professionals with many years of experience in the various artistic disciplines produced at ART Station. What a healthy environment where the arts flourish and are a part of every day life. We saw on this visit a play, The Marvelous Wonderettes and it was very entertaining and an excellent production. A ton of old songs, that unfortunately I knew most of the words thus dating myself back to the classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs. Loved the crinoline skirts! What a trip down memory lane.

In search of venue space in the metro Atlanta area, I came across the website for Art Station in Stone Mountain Village. I first emailed to see if there were any dates available, the venue contact was immediate in his response, which is key for me in deciding if I will even go to visit a space. He told me that for the next few weeks, they were extending their Saturday visiting hours for a few hours, so we decided to check them out. The parking looks to be plentiful, we’re assuming that the parking for a few neighboring buildings would be available as well as a nearby parking lot. It is handicapped accessible. We had a little challenge determining the proper entrance, but after a few moments, we figured it out and were in. The hallway leading to the downstairs gallery has a little gift shop over to the side, a bunch of advertisements and announcements on the wall, and a ticketbooth. Once you get into the gallery area, there is a small snack bar right outside of the small theatre (seats slightly more than 100 folks). Of course, we will never really know how many folks it seats, the lady who was at the desk did not know how to turn on the lights, so we just had to attempt to adjust our eyes to the darkness. We then climbed the stairs to the mail gallery that is supposed to accomodate between 200 – 300 in a reception style. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, you immediately notice that there are a bunch of fragile items placed on top of tables that seem to scream out ‘make me fall and shatter into a million pieces’. We’re hoping that they remove those for special events, that would not be pretty. Now, you finally arrive in the main gallery that has various and random walls and poles strategically located around the space.
All in all, this space could easily work for a nice get together, but would be a little awkward if one were to decide to plan a wedding to be in the facility. The price seems to be pretty attractive, yet a bit pricey considering all of the modifications that would need to take place in order to get the space into a ready condition for guests.
