The ice cream is good. I ordered a crêpe and its big enough for two to three people! Customer service is alright. One of the girls seems to have a hearing problem and gives you something you don’t want.

Hands down the best ice cream I have ever had in my life and trust me when I say I have had A LOT of ice cream. Apparently all the ice cream is made by one dude. And not just ice cream. Ice pops. and the varieties! I just had a pine nut ice cream and it is delicious. Who knew? My buddy picked up the tequila ice cream which was amazingly tasty. There is also the textures of the ice cream which i can only describe as perfect. This place is awesome. And if you are someone who is trying to go local and buy local and support local businesses, you can’t go wrong buying here. I will probably not but another ice cream brand until i have had all the flavors this guy has to offer. My recommendation by the way? So far, try the strawberry cheesecake. It has bits of graham crackers in it and the texture is amazing. And the prices are cheap. $ 1.69 for a large one scoop cup! Note: They close for a little while every year during December/January because it gets slow. Keep that in mind.

The mangonada is a new favorite drink of mine, so I specifically scheduled a stop at El Frutal during a road trip based on the Unilocal reviews. I’ll admit, the mangonada here is delicious, but not phenomenally more than the ones I can get in Sacramento to warrant a special trip down to Stockton. The good: The service we got was excellent. Some of the employees don’t speak English, but the two who did were very helpful and always checking up on us. We walked in and were immediately drawn to the freezer displaying a rainbow of colors in ice cream flavors. I took note of the real fruit peeking out from the bottom of a few bars, and confirmed that these were indeed made fresh. Mind. blown. In all the years I’ve bought ice cream bars from Mexican street vendors in central California – watery imitations of the fresh paletas at El Frutal – I never knew what they were called. I just called them helado. And more importantly, I had no idea there were places that sold homemade paletas. The good to know: There are two kinds of paletas, water-based and cream-based. The cream-based bars are the ones I’m familiar with, milky and rich like traditional ice cream. The water-based bars are basically popsicles, but with more intense flavor. The employees described each one to us(pistachio, oreo, soursop, kiwi-strawberry-lime, and tamarind, to name a few) and even gave us ice cream samples. We ended up getting the cream-based guava, coconut, and strawberry bars, and the water-based lemon and mangonada-ish bars. They were all great, but the guava bars have seeds and aren’t as pleasant to eat because of that. The lemon paleta was very refreshing. perfect for a hot summer day. And if I had to pick between the mangonada drink and the mangonada paleta, I’d choose the drink any day. The meh: We grabbed a few street tacos. Steak, spit-grilled pork with pineapple(it looked like al pastor to me but I think they were calling it something else), tripas, and lengua. We were feeling adventurous with the last two. They have a side cart to add whatever toppings you want… cilantro, guac, onions, salsa. The steak was the best tasting. The lengua was a little bland, and the other two were marginally better. The bad(but not surprising): Given the location this place is in, you don’t feel like you’re in the safest neighborhood. Parking is limited so we parked in a residential area. But we went during the daytime, and never felt threatened. Would I return? Most likely. The mangonadas lured us in, but it’s the paletas that have us hooked. So many flavors, so little time.

This is my go to place when ever I’m craving some ice cream. I love their mangonadas! Their bionicos are also pretty good, definitely try it out. They’re staff is some-what friendly, when their packed, seems like their overwhelmed… Also parking is an issue, not much space for it. But delicious food!

The food was good but service was HORRIBLE. Lady was helping my sister and I then left to the back room without saying anything and never came out when we still had more to order. The young lady there did help us, she was nice. the other lady was reallyyy slowww. 3 stars.

I have Been to all the ice cream shops around the area and even towards the Bay Area, and I must say that el Frutal has Best ice cream around ! Had a chance to speak with the owners and found out that the ice cream and Popsicles are made fresh daily and made by hand with the freshest ingredients. I was also told that they can make any flavors they might not have out already! I recommend a mangonada or any of the Popsicles!
