A colleague recommended a stop to Gleason’s — she was reminiscing of fond memories, I think. I walked up to the door and stopped. It appeared closed. It was dark on the inside. I looked for«Hours» and different signs were scattered about on the window and doors, including«No Longer Open on Saturdays». I tried the handle, and it was unlocked. Turns out they were open; it was just dim and desolate at 4pm on a Friday afternoon. I got a scoop of Black Walnut ice cream and a scoop of Mocha Almond. I requested hot fudge. None of the tables were clean & ready for the next patron. The TV with intermittent antennae reception was distracting. The hygiene of the kitchen area appeared questionable. The menu also includes fried foods. The ice cream was tasty — both flavors I tried. The hot fudge was, well, I wish I hadn’t gotten it. This place is certainly on a decline. The ice cream was good, but not SO good that I would wish to return.

Ok I have to admit I did not know Gleason’s was an ice cream parlor but if it’s any thing like their burgers then it’s Da Bomb !!! The place is actually anchored by the Downtown Transit Center. What’s that? Everybody knows you can’t get good food at a bus station? Well you can in Stockton. I drive for RTD and this place has been so busy that I can’t wait long enough to pick up a to go order on my layover. So I finally had enough time and hitch a ride from the bus yard to have lunch here. It was well worth it. I ordered a burger and fries for about 7 bucks. I’ll get out of the way first that the fries are really good but not the main event here. Now on to the burger. It took about 5 to 10 min for my food to arrive and I was treated to a nice delicious burger. It seems like in addition to the standard trio of Mayo ketchup and mustard they put on that old time hamburger relish that I have a hard time finding in this world of gourmet fusion gastro burgers. This is old world hamburger stand right here. The best part though is the patty tastes so good you could eat it plain. I am a big stickler about that. As well the nice girls behind the counter make it a point to know everyone’s name and greet everyone like you have been coming there for 50 years. If your driving there is almost always metered parking nearby. Better yet it’s cool to ride the bus !!!

I was so confused they had like 14 separate tubs wow I can’t believe this I will never eat there again! Sorry guys if you want ice cream make sure you know what you want you can only taste two flavors out of 14 wow such bad service!

I recall Gleason’s being a little better quality than what I had yesterday. The location on Sierra Nevada had more favors and was much cleaner(even though it was even deeper into the ghetto!). I wasn’t really impressed with the new location. After leaving DeYoung funeral home for my grandfather’s wake– I was naturally feeling pretty upset, so my best friend decided to be a gentleman and surprise me with a trip to get ice cream here since it’s right down the street. A very sweet gesture, for sure! We arrived, and had to park near the transit station and walk through a lot of uh. INTERESTING people. When we got into Gleason’s, it was a little busy, but we were helped by a very friendly and attentive women who I am assuming was the owner. My friend ordered a corn dog and a vanilla milkshake, and I got a cone with banana nut and chocolate. The banana was pretty good, but I knew that from having it years ago at their old location. The chocolate seemed a little gritty. Not a good texture for ice cream! Overall, it was a semi-decent experience. I just wish the location was better. But I must say– I’d take Gleason’s over the gross Coldstone franchise any day.

Alright let’s face is this location is quiet… mmm… may i say CUTTY like forreal I bet some people that aren’t use to ghetto people would be light weight affriad of the people who come here. But don’t mind they they’re usually people waiting for a bus to catch since the bus station is right behind it. Despite the hoodness that can be preceived you can’t deny the fact that their ice cream is BOMB! Like fellow Unilocalers have noted they have great ice cream and their banana split is just WTF freakin stupid good. Served like on a waffle platter thing, three scoops of ice cream(chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry), of course a split banana, topped with whip cream, and all these goods CRACK! They serve a bunch of other stuff too, ranging from donuts, cookies to burgers and fries. We had their quarter pounder too it was aiiiight kind of reminded me of a whopper… But this place is a good spot for ice cream :)

The ice cream here is DELICIOUS! They don’t have over a gazillion flavors like Baskin Robbins does, but still. I read a review about how the ice cream is fluffy, and that was spot-on. The ice cream here is VERY fluffy, as well as silky and creamy. Om nom frickin’ nom! Ice cream isn’t the only thing this place sells, though. They also sell muffins, cookies, donuts, coffee, burgers, nachos… I haven’t tried any of those, so I can’t say anything. Some of the flavors they have here include: mint chocolate chip, vanilla, rocky road, no sugar added vanilla froyo, black walnut, chocolate, pecan praline, and strawberry. They have other flavors too, but that’s all I can remember at the moment. Oh, and just a warning: this place is next by the Downtown Transportation Center. Chances are, if it’s crowded there, Gleason’s will be crowded too. ;p

Haven’t had a Banana Split in… a month! Long overdue! On the menu today… Banana Split(***** $ 5.29) The Banana Split is made on a 4″ x 6″ Styrofoam plate on which a flattened Waffle Cone is shaped into a «Waffle Dish», I guess. If you order the Split the«traditional» way, a scoop each of Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream is placed on the Waffle Dish. A split Banana is place lengthwise alongside the scoops of Ice Cream. Chocolate Topping is poured on the Chocolate Scoop, Pineapple on the Vanilla Scoop, and Strawberry on the Strawberry Ice Cream. Whipped Cream is placed on all of that and then Candy Sprinkles and Chopped Nuts and Cherries are placed on top of that with a drizzle of Caramel Syrup all over everything! Yum!
