My family and I have gone to Cucumber since it opened years ago, and we go there many times a year during special occasions such as birthdays or holidays. Unfortunately, we went there yesterday for Mother’s Day and was very disappointed. The quality of the food has greatly declined and the service was not great either. We ordered a groupon online for 4 soups, salads, 4 regular rolls, and 2 special rolls. 4 coffees came with it, but we are not avid coffee drinkers and declined. We also got food not on that menu, vegetable udon noodles and spicy kani salad. The noodles and kani salad tasted the same, and was pretty good. But then the sushi… our sushi was bland. The quality of the rice and fish was subpar. All of the sushi tasted the same. The eel sauce with the eel cucumber was fine, but the eel itself was lower quality and did not have a profound taste. The Tex Mex sushi was weirdly put together, just a bunch of dry spices with fish. The fish seemed fresh, however. The miso soup we got tasted good, but the tom yum soup was watery and bland. The salads were the same, and tasked fine. A subtle difference was that before, the soy sauce bottles was next to each plate. But this time they gave us the soy sauce after we ordered and was given one bottle. Not a big deal, it was all the soy sauce we needed, but it was an observation. Overall, the food left much to be desired. The service was different. The waitress did not seem to speak english very well. The problem is, we couldn’t communicate our wants to her without some stuttering and repetitions. We had a hard time giving in the groupon too. They didn’t ask for what we wanted to drink, and just gave ice water with a slice of lemon. A family member asked for hot water and got it, so that’s okay. The food came out quick enough, and the sushi chefs greeted us with a smile and a «hello». Some major differences in food and service made us not order dessert. The sushi usually tasted great, and service has been better. The time between yesterday and the last time we came was April, so it had been a while. We discovered that the restaurant has changed ownership. Maybe the new owner should ask the old one for some tips.

Good sushi but a little overpriced compared to the other places in the area. Great lunch and dinner specials

Terrible service and food was only alright. The waitress wasn’t very helpful and we couldn’t make any of the dishes spicy even the ones listed as spicy on the menu. It almost seemed like they were mad we chose to eat at their restaurant. To their credit my my tuna bowl salad was tasty and fresh but nothing to make me want to come back.

Just ate here 10 minutes ago. I paid $ 7.50 for chicken teryaki lunch entrée 5 courses — an appetizer, soup and salad, my dish, and dessert. An unheard of price for GOOD quality chicken and perfect portion. I will definitely be coming back!!! The brown rice is delicious too! It’s very different. Thanks cucumber!

Ordered rolls for takeout(shrimp tempura & cucumber avocado rolls) and it tasted pungently foul! The nori(seaweed) was so dried out and had an extremely unpleasant chewy texture. The rolls tasted extra fishy to the point where we couldn’t even swallow our food from the taste! On top of that the cucumbers were shriveled up and tasted old like they had been prepared a week prior! And the avocado was way too ripe & rotten. We could not eat it!!! We gave this place this place another shot a few months later for take out, thinking it must have just been a bad night the last time. However, it was the same situation: old dried up, tasteless cucumber &VERY foul CHEWY tasting nori. We won’t eat here ever again!!! The quality of the food has declined since it opened. I used to come here all the time for lunch & takeout and we were pleased with the food. After these experiences I could never return!

Reliable little sushi spot for Staten Island if you like special rolls and things like that. Definitely recommend the Sex on the beach roll. Dragon balls look pretty cool too, I’ll have to come back to try those. Came here twice and they were pretty consistent both times. The only place nearby that beats it is Takayama.

Cute little place tucked into a strip mall on Amboy Road. Have been there twice and liked it twice. Fish products for sushi are fresh. Large selection of rolls which are well-made and served nicely. One hot dish«Pad Thai» was not very successful. Sauce was totally wrong. Service is polite and helpful. Will definitely go back. Look for Groupons for a great discount.

A solid 4 stars. We eat here since it is in the neighborhood. The sushi is always fresh. We wish that the place was bigger and could seat more people. The tempori is good as well. It could be a little crispier, but it is good all the same. We always get their California and Tuna rolls.

Very fresh fish and ingredients overall, I love sushi and there are many different ways they can be prepared. Even though it’s fresh doesn’t mean it’s good, I’m not saying it’s bad but I personally wouldn’t go there again.

I was delightfully surprised at how good this sushi place was! The interior is beautifully decorated and very clean. They even have a nice tough — cucumber green napkins! I ordered the Spicy California roll and the Shrimp and Avocado roll and both were great. I had a piece of a Sweet Potato Tempura roll and that was delicious(I love sweet potatoes). Prices were unbelievably cheap for the quality! I paid $ 7 for my two rolls which came with miso soup and ginger salad. The miso soup was better than most I’ve had! The ginger salad tasted fresh, but I’ve tasted better dressing elsewhere. Highlights — Inexpensive lunch specials($ 7 for two rolls with soup and salad) — Fast service — Clean interior — Good food Don’t forget to check in! You get a fried banana and vanilla ice cream dessert when you check in.(Only if you order two full priced entrees). Because we came for lunch they gave us one dessert for our table of 4 people.

I recently moved to the area had cucumber sushi for the first time via delivery last night. I chose the place based off of the Unilocal reviews. Maybe a dine in experience would earn them a higher rating but that’s yet to be determined. I ordered a house salad which was just lettuce no cucumber, no tomato… and their ginger dressing. Very plain and the dressing was really sweet which I didn’t particularly like and never had it like that. I also had the spicy tuna gyoza… didn’t like that either. The inside is very dry. The sushi I ordered a peanut/avocado roll and a spicy avocado shrimp roll. The sushi definitely seemed fresh. The was the only plus side besides the speedy 25 minute delivery.

I haven’t dined in, but my office orders lunch from here frequently. We all love it! Delivery is quick and cheap with delicious food. The one time they made a mistake, they brought us the correct food back, in the snow, with no additional charge. Try the peppercorn chicken with veggies and brown rice. It’s my favorite!

BF and I order here about once a week. This is a great local sushi spot. We normally order for delivery and I’ve never actually dined in house, but I have no complaints about their food or the length of their delivery. Food’s always good and the fact that they have coupons is a plus. Not exactly a gourmet dining experience but will do when you’re in need of a quick sushi fix with limited funds.

There is really not much to be impressed about. When you walk in the décor is actually quite nice but that automatically becomes off putting on how tiny and squished the tables are. If you want an idea of how close other patrons sit to you, let’s just say the women sitting at the table next to me slapped me with her hair about six times. The lunch specials are really the only thing worth going for. Their price is pretty cheap and quality is good for Staten Island standards. I’ve ate there about 4 times until I found a hair in my soup(I had blond and the hair was jet black, so I can comfortably say it wasn’t mine). And I’m not one to make a scene, I just cancelled my order and left.

When walking in its decorated very contemporary, with dark wood and lime green walls. Its small and has a couple tables and a sushi bar. This place is good for lunch. They have reasonably priced specials and you def get your monies worth. I had two rolls and it came with miso soup and a salad. All for 8 bucks. I will def check this place out for lunch again.

Very close to my house and one of the best sushi places I could order from in my area. My spicy tuna roll was excellent. They even add those crunchies to it that I like. The place itself I have only gone there to pick up food. But I don’t know if I would eat there. It’s extremely small. I think I would take a further drive to another sushi place just to feel more spacious. Other than that the food is excellent. Looking forward to trying other things from the menu.
