This place has some good fresh juices. It’s located in the heart of Penn State University area and provides a variety of foods and fresh veggies. The only bummer was that when I was walking around the store it felt like I was being monitored but I figured this place has a lot of reason to have extra eyes on the ground since it’s basically in collage vile!

A clean and bustling grocery store located in the heart of downtown State College. Well stocked with fresh produce. If you need it, the probably have it here. The highlight of my trips here is the juice bar. Fresh juice made to order. They have many options to choose from. You can also get smoothies and fresh ground coffee concoctions or fraps too. Great place that I will visit whenever I’m in town.

It’s a great spot to get some groceries here are there. The prices are as high some make them out to be. They tend to be very fair. They also have a good amount of options for a place 1 block from campus. They have a deli in the back, which I think might be the most underrated quick food stop on west campus. You literally can get a 12 inch sandwich for around $ 5! It is also made with Boars Head meat, so quality stuff too! They don’t offer a huge array of frozen food or cleaning supplies but it’s enough to get stuff done! Roll through here if you’re down for a sandwich and bevs.

As a grocery store its pretty pricy but i mean its the only market thats walkable in state college. Sandwiches wise… probably more of a 2.5. Its like a crappy copy of subway at best i feel. Some of the ones wit deli meat, u get a good bit of meat way more than subway but u lose out on the crappy bread. The spicy italian and the turkey are what ive had so far in terms of cold sandwiches and they were ok. As far as hot sandwiches go I think the hot reuben is ok. Ive also had a couple terrible sandwiches there… For the LOVEOFALLTHATISGOODDONOTGETTHECLAMANDSHRIMPPOBOYEVER. I wanted to throw this thing away but the chinese in me said NO dont be a B and eat this. Its probably the worst sandwich ive ever had in the history of sandwiches lol and im not even exaggerating. Do u know how hard it is to claim the title as WORSTSANDWICHEVER? The strips of clam and shrimp were cold and overbreaded. What was sposed to be popcorn shimp is jus lumps of breading and like maybe a lil tiny bit of shrimp. I think im kinda done with the regular sandwiches as i feel the subway round here kills them in quality but who knows maybe ill get adventurous again and try another one. The coffee place is not bad tho I got a caramel banana frap and i thought it tasted as good as a frap as anywhere else. Also i hear the breakfast sandwiches/bagels are where its at…

Pretty much the only grocery store right next to Penn State. Kinda small, but if you need something you gotta do what you gotta do.

Convenient, and pretty decent for a small market. It’s not good for a big order, both because it’s expensive and because they don’t have the biggest selection. But sometimes I’ll grab a few quick things after work in order to avoid the big box stores. I really like their new setup with the coffee bar. But when I went to grab some quick lunch the other day, there were literally no veggie options in the pre made lunches. Every single salad(yes, all 6 different types of salads!) has meat on it. I mean, if they’re gonna offer salads to go, why wouldn’t they include ONE meatless one? I know I’m not the only veg in state college. I really hope the management sees this because I like this market and want to continue coming here.

Best Deli in town and around. Sick and tired of the weak, thin, wilted sandwich you got from Subway? Try the deli special and get a REAL sub for half the price. They use Boar’s Head products, and can make you lunch quickly when you’re in a rush. Don’t expect the prices of the groceries to be what you’d get at Wegman’s or Trader Joe’s though, the deli is their strength.

We needed some breakfast when we were in town for the UCF vs Penn St game and every breakfast place was packed so the friends we were staying with recommended this place for a breakfast sandwich so we headed over. At first I had no idea what to expect because its a Penn St school shop and then next to it there’s a grocery store and then inside there’s this sandwich shop. wow all you need in one place! We did the long line which went by really fast and we each ordered an egg, cheese and bacon bagel sandwich. So with our food we headed to the stadium. We were starving and the bagel was so hard that it was not easy to eat or chew but it tasted pretty good considering… We also were able to get all kinds of supplies for tailgating so I considered this place a winner! Oh and Go Knights!

WHATISUPWITHTHESESUB-PARREVIEWS?! McLanahan’s is awesome. Not only is it a Penn State staple, it’s pretty much the only grocery store within walking distance. Don’t even get me started on their deli… FIVEBUCKS for a 12 inch sub packed with Boar’s Head deliciousness?! Awesome home-made sides(try their potato salad) for cheap?! Mclanny’s makes ma nips tingle in the best of ways. The owner of the store sometimes works behind the counter at one of the check out stations and he’s always so nice and friendly. They have fresh fruits and veggies, frozen items, even rotisserie chickens! They’ve just got it all. Pro Tip: They have a PNCATM inside which is very convenient to a lot of people who live on Allen.

I am talking about the deli. It is a bargain, if you eat meat this place is leaps and bounds better than Subway. The subs are huge, cheap and made with Boar’s Head meat and cheese. This is not a fancy place, the olives are black from a can and you won’t find artisan bread. But if you want a huge Italian sub that will last you two meals for under $ 6 you can’t beat this place. But fair warning if you only eat tuna this place is marginal and if you don’t eat meat then your sub will be piss poor. This is not a place to go for a veggie sub. The market is fine, it caters to the student crowd. It is not Wegman’s, but it is downtown and has the American student staples. You want fancy stuff then you need to get in a car.

This is a review of the Agostinelli Deli which is in the back of McLanahan’s Downtown Market. I have gotten a variety of breakfast sandwhichs over time here. I will start by saying the products themselves are very good. I have never had a bad sandwich from this place. Also the service is very frinedly. This place is in about as good a location as you can find in State College so there is a huge convenince factor as well. All that being said, they are slow. It takes an inordinate amount fo time to pull a simple order together if they get more than 3 people in line. Also they are not always accurate in prepping what you order. So if you go here you will get a decent sandwich but give your self extra time because you will wait and double check your order because there is a chance it will be wrong.

This place really doesn’t have much. Their food selection is almost comparable to a CVS, aside to like a smidgen of hot links and cheese. With a market in such a prime location, I’d think that they’d at least have a full deli and meat to sell. Sadly, there is nothing much aside from packaged food. Save your time and head to a real grocery store.

McLanahan’s, McLanahan’s. Hmm, where to begin… It’s really a grocery store, not a drug store. With their central downtown location they have a real opportunity to make a lasting mark in the minds of all Penn Stater’s. Their food should be something that makes you happy, since there are not that many stores and there are TWO of these. It should be something memorable and classic. I feel they maintain their reputation on being average. They are way expensive, save for their sandwiches, and everything they make fresh is just cheap. First, with the sandwiches. McLanahan’s will make you a hoagie of your choice for $ 3.19 plus tax. To me, a good hoagie starts with a good roll. This is about the only place they go wrong! I usually get pepper turkey and pepper jack or provolone. They will give you any combo with a decent amount of veggies, even olives and baby spinach. The roll really messes it up, though. Today, I had a meatball hoagie with provolone for $ 1.49. The sauce could not even remotely compare to even Wegman’s .99 sauce, and the meatballs reminded me of rubber bouncy balls, but they make sandwiches for $ 1.49. The price is right… But, that is about the only thing in store that the price is right for. Expect to pay $ 6.50 for a regular sized Hellman’s mayo. Also, their plastic bags have to be the cheapest I have ever encountered. This never has made sense to me since 99% of their customers are on foot and carrying their groceries home or back to campus.

Not sure what the east-west divide is in this town. Is it really that far to walk to the other McLanahan’s that you have to open this one as well? Still, it is centrally located and easily accessible between classes. When this store first opened one fall they had free cocoa! Also has a nice but small selection or grocery items and some pre made food.
