I had bilateral hernia(both sides) surgery performed by Dr. James Lau about two years ago. My experience was good. I think I may have waited longer than I wanted in the reception area, but that’s not what really matters, is it? He told me about the risks, none of which happened, thank god. I slept for the additional day I was in the hospital due to the pain killers. I don’t know if he came to see me. I emailed him a few times post surgery and he replied promptly. This was really reassuring btw — getting a response directly from him post surgery. Its been two years since the surgery. Things are still going great. Thanks Dr. Lau.

I was a patient at Stanford Hospital with a bowel obstruction. Dr. Lau was assigned as my surgeon. During my three days in the hospital, he spend a total of five minutes(if that) with me and was condescending and unhelpful to the point of being rude. Fortunately, the obstruction cleared on its own and surgery wasn’t necessary. I have no idea about his ability as a surgeon, but he falls short as a medical advisor.
