A really great meal. This was our first time at Teff. The and service were really great.

Came here during a work trip and walked here from my hotel and I am so glad I did! This food was amazing! I have never tried Ethiopian food but this place engulfed all of my taste buds into a huge happy dance. It’s also gluten free which is a plus for me. The food is having me want more. The flavors are so rich and tantalizing to my tongue! The customer service was great. The waiter made some recommendations when I asked and he was spot on with the selection! I was very very pleased. It’s a family restaurant too and one of the staff mentioned his mom is the chef! Koodos and super bummed they are closed on Monday and Tuesday but I’ll be back on Wed! Thank you for one of the best meals I have ever had. I can’t remember the last time I was so excited about a meal!

Came here one night with a few coworkers, one who is vegetarian. None of us had ever tried Ethiopian food before, so it was fun to experience it as a group. One of the nice things about the menu is it really describes the flavors of each of the items and what’s in it, so there’s not a lot of guessing. Our waitress was very helpful. I selected the meat tasting for one, which comes with 2 meat options and 3 vegan options served with 2 pieces of injera, which is gluten-free if you’re into that sort of thing. The injera itself is not much — spongy and salty, but you use it as a vessel for the rest of the food. I ordered the siga aletcha(mild beef option), the dorho aletcha(mild chicken option), shiro(fava beans), dinich(potatoes, okra, zucchini), and the atkilt gomen(cabbage). The siga aletcha was tender and yummy, covered in a variety of spices that added lots of flavor without heat. The dorho aletcha was my favorite of the two, though, and I’m not a big chicken person! This chicken was so tender and juicy, and the sauce was delicious. The dinich was a bit spicy for me, but enough to stop me from eating every last bit! The descriptions of mild, medium, and spicy are spot on, so trust them on the menu! The shiro was full of flavor and mild. The atkilt gomen was my favorite of the vegan options, as I love cabbage more than a normal person should. Not having eaten a lot of food that relies heavily on curry before, I didn’t realize until a friend pointed out one of the flavors I was enjoying so much was indeed curry. Pretty much one of my top five hobbies is dipping bread in things, so dipping, rolling, wrapping the injera was great. The only issue I had was that some of the sauces seemed to saturate the injera a bit too quickly, so doubling it up and folding it over was helpful. They had received their liquor license at the time I had eaten there, so no BYOB(I do love BYOB) — but the wine was good enough and inexpensive. We ate coffee ice cream for dessert — I’m a big coffee fan but for some reason not usually a fan of coffee flavored desserts, but this one was good. It was a little gritty — which I loved, because you could really taste coffee grinds in it. A nice way to «cool off» after some of the spicier dishes. The interior is very simple, not particularly remarkable. There were lots of groups and it got fairly busy on a Wednesday night. There were good vibes and you could tell it was a lot of guests first time trying Ethiopian, as was mine. The staff is happy to introduce you to a new cuisine and the overall vibe as a result is homey and welcoming. Parking is not great, but there is usually off street parking in the area, though I wish they had there own lot. Then again, it’s a better parking situation than downtown, so that’s Stamford for you. I have also ordered takeout through Seamless, and the service was good and quick. I had also ordered the meat tasting, along with the ingudai tubs with my takeout order(portobello mushrooms) and they were worth the $ 4 up charge to add to the meat tasting! I had to mention it to comment on the packaging — it’s fantastic. Each container was labeled with a full description of what was inside, along with a description of how to eat everything. Little touches like that are what will keep me coming back and ordering from the same places. All in all, this is a great spot to go with friends and experience a new culture if you haven’t. I will definitely be back!

We came here excited for the vegan menu. The food itself tasted good, however the portions were SOSMALL. We ordered the vegan platter for two. It was so small that I thought we accidentally ordered the platter for one. We paid $ 32 for this and were very disappointed. We have been to other Ethiopian places in the past and the portions are always much more generous. Our waitress was not very friendly either.

Incredibly rude. It took us almost an hour to be seated. The receptionist had the most condescending tone and was incredibly aggressive when we would ask how long it would take. She kept saying«5 minutes. Ok guys?» in an annoyed tone, but it took almost an hour. I’m fine with waiting. What I’m not ok with is how rude she was and how she continued to give us inaccurate estimates of the time. If it’s going to take an hour, just say that!

We were visiting family in Hastings and they recommended this spot. It’s a quaint and cosy restaurant. My family has been there a few times and highly recommended it, because its vegan friendly and BYOB. But alas, a month ago they received their liquor license and while it is still BYOB there is a $ 20 corkage fee per 750 ml! That’s more than the collective wine bottles we bought from the store! Plus, their wine bottles cost about $ 23 – 33. This was a bummer and we settled for a non-boozy dinner. The dinner was great. The injera here is gluten free(Yes!), which was a delight to our tummies. note: it’s pretty hard to find GF injera. We ordered about 6 entrees between 9 people(no apps) and that was PLENTY. We licked it all up. Since one entrée comes with two smaller entrees, we pretty much tried everything! these are the go to’s: Ful, Gomen, Atkilt Gomen, Shiro, Birsin, Kik Aletcha, Dinich, Ingudai Tibs. Favorties: the shiro, the lentils are delicious flavored with a mild kick to them. Next was the ingudai tibs, mushroom tibs essentially, which are different from the usual Ethiopian I’ve tried. While it is flavorful, and unique, I would hope the mushrooms were cooked longer to absorb more of the spices. The dinich, which is a potato and okra curry, was delicious. They ran out of it! This has a fantastic spicy level to it, which is great for Indian families :) it reminded me of an indian potato/okra curry. The FUL is delicious, it comes out looking pretty(as seen in the pictures) and is bursting with flavors! Overall, this place is a great pit-stop when passing through CT/NY. I wish they didn’t have such an exorbitant corkage fee, that was definitely disappointing. The servers were very friendly and knowledgeable about the staple of Ethiopian cuisine! Don’t forget– the injera expands in your tummy and you will feel unbelievably FULL pretty quickly!

QUALITY: I would say that the quality of the food was very good. Truthfully, the portions were not too big for the price. PRICES: Chicken and beef entrees were about $ 18-$ 26(mine was $ 22) and $ 14 for a vegan one. DECOR: Not fancy. No tablecloths etc. as another reviewer noted, the place does look like they didn’t finish decorating. Is pretty sparse and not too warm of an atmosphere. SERVICE: attentive with good explanations/suggestions. PARKING: no parking on site but they have an agreement with a place a few doors down across from the park. The area is a little sketchy. FYI: People were generally leaving within about 45 minutes I would say. HAS A $ 20CORKFEE: They do serve their own wine for about $ 7 to $ 8 per glass. You can bring your own wine… with a $ 20 cork fee. Whoa.

This seems like a nice addition to the area. My fiancé and I live in NYC, and we often go down to DC so Ethopian is nothing new for us. The injera was delicious, albeit thinner than I was used to(because it broke too easily when I tried to pick stuff up — you know it’s all hands with this cuisine.) They kindly sat us at 615 on a Sat when they had another reservation coming in in an hour. Given the restaurant is small, perhaps a res is the way to go. The service was prompt, polite and food came out fast. We ordered the tasting for two and got the Dorho Wat and the Dorho Aletcha which were both chicken stews. One was spiced curry(very mild), one was stewed with veggies– mostly potatoes. Both were tender and came off the bone. I wished it was spicier but thats me. With the tasting, you get 3 vegan options. We had the lentils(my favorite), the split pea(hard to find), and the collard greens which were flavorful. It’s not the best Ethopian I’ve had but def good. That would go to Zoma in Harlem. I also had the kenem tea which was a soothing tea with many spices. It seems they were BYO at one point but I saw wine around so not sure if that’s still the case. I wish they had more stuff on the starter menu– they basically have injera and some salad. They should get some sambusas or something(and some Fried fish!) but they’re new so im sure that might come! Tasting for two was $ 44

The rave reviews are all real. Great service, great ambience, but the food. The food was an actual emotional experience. I had the vegan tibs with two lentil vegan dishes and omgah. So amazing. Also tried my husbands cabbage, and meat tibs a+. And the fit fit to start. This was just the best. All around.

Teff is one of the best Ethiopian places I have been to. Food was amazing. We ordered the dohra tibs and bey geh tibs both of which were really good. And deco at this place is very different, they have pictures of Ethiopian culture which is very nice and it kind of gives a different feel to the restaurant. The service provided by Michael was really good. We were here on a Friday night around 9 but the place was not crowded at all and also could easily find parking on the street.

The food is incredible! Highly recommend this place. The first time we were there, the owner’s daughter took time to explain the food to us and her family’s history. It felt very personal. My only complaint is the space/atmosphere. It feels like they didn’t finish decorating. The space could use some music and doesn’t feel as warm as I like a restaurant to feel. Go for the food!

Great location, ambiance, service, and food. The silverware is also excellent. I had the lamb nibs EXTRASPICY. It was as promised, good spice and full flavor. It was BYOB when I went, but my understanding is they will begin serving beer and wine on April 1.

As a vegetarian/vegan it can be really difficult to find a decent place to dine out in Stamford. I tried Teff on a whim during a bout of «hanger» and needed some place to stop in quickly. When I arrived the restaurant was booked for 2hrs, however they graciously accommodated us and found an open table within half an hour. Our server was very sweet– and explained how the menu worked as it was my first time eating there. The menu is amazing– there are so many vegan options and I didn’t feel limited by what I could order. While I had never tried injera before(a gluten free, spongy flatbread that works as your knife, fork and spoon) I was curious about it and gave it a shot. I’m not a fan of it but I was a fan of the delicious food on my plate! The flavors were mild and the food was much more filling than I thought it would be! The next time I go I’d like to go for spicier options. I am so happy that this place exists and I can’ t wait to go back! And don’t worry about parking– after 6PM parking is available at Autozone!

I just had a meal that I will surely be talking about for days to everyone who will listen! A group of us shared 4 entrees, each which comes with 2 vegan sides. We had the dorho wat, bey’gey tibs, siga tibs and siga aletcha with all of the vegan options except for birsin(we chose to go with the portabella mushrooms/ingudai tibs as our 8th choice). You would have thought we hadn’t eaten in days! None of us could stop ourselves from going after all the amazing options laid before us. My personal favorites were the shiro, timtumo and the dorho wat(the sauce is just AMAZING). While the food was truly outstanding, even better was the service! The owner was so sweet to answer all our questions and teach us about each dish, as well as a little bit about the process that goes behind making their OWN injera(many restaurants simply buy injera from a vendor) I fully intend on returning and bringing more friends along!

First time having ethiopian food but it won’t be the last. All the meals come with a delicious spongy bread that serves as your sole utensil. The restaurant has tons of gluten free and vegan options, but I went with the lamb. It had the perfect level of spice that was tingly, but didn’t numb the taste at all. The closest thing I can approximate the food to is indian, but even then it doesn’t do it justice. It is a very unique taste with spices that I couldn’t place, but were delicious. Whether you have had ethiopian before or it is your first time, Teff is definitely worth a try.

Oh. My. God. This is the greatest food EVER. the vegan options are absolutely amazing. Every time I order from this place(and I order at least once a week) my mouth waters before digging in. The shiro, birsin and timtumo are my favorite and the bread is out of this world. The ambience of the place is gorgeous and meeting the owner has solidified this place as being my favorite ever. Do not miss.

Confession time– I usually don’t like injera. Not sure what it is about it, but it just doesn’t do it for me. I’ve tried it at many establishments. Heck– I even tried it a few times in Ethiopia. But still, it just constantly had that spongy taste that I can only compare to what I assume mold would taste like. Enter Teff: My mind is completely blown. And the words, «nothing short of delicious» come to mind. After several months of attempting to visit, we finally made it one Friday evening. After a bit of pre-research I realized that the restaurant was BYOB and we came properly equipped. Parking was easy as it was offered for free at a shared lot down the street in the evening. The staff was friendly and perfectly attentive. The ambiance was casual, but warm. Perfect for an evening out in Stamford. The food-yum! Rest assured that they offer several vegan options, but if you are about the meat life like I am, several options are available for you on the menu. We had the Siga Wat and Siga Tibs(both are beef). I can’t quite remember which I liked the best. They were both flavorful and clearly freshly prepared. We also had the sides of gomen and dinich. The portions were appropriate and I left the restaurant completely full and looking forward to my next visit. #nothingshortofdelicious

Updated review: I loved this place the first time I came recommended it to all the friends. This time the overall experience was total opposite. They messed up the order. Didn’t bring out the Injira on time, the food was served cold. After mentioning this to the staff she brought out the cold Injera(half portion) and behaved as if it was our fault that order was messed up and we shouldn’t mention. All in all it was a very bad experience for the whole family. We ordered two tastings both come with 3 – 4 vegan dishes. The server knew we were only going to order that come with the tasting and not as a separate side. Look at the pic of the bill. They charged us for two dishes as a side didn’t want to adjust the check!!! So we over payed for the bad service. Now that the place is starting to become popular standards are starting to slip. Will not come back here again. Was really excited about the Ethiopian place opening in Stamford… Disappointed! I hope they realize this and correct the issue. Would be bad to see this place close. Old review —– This is as authentic as it gets! Everything is fresh, service is awesome, nice seating, plenty of parking. Tons and tons of Vegan options how cool is that. If you are new to Ethiopian make sure to ask the super friendly staff.

Wonderful new addition to diversify the food scene in Stamford. I have been waiting for a reliable, delicious ethopian option since moving here and that wish has finally been answered with Teff. The menu isn’t expansive, buy it offers all the necessities and everything that they listed on the menu was truly delectable. Loads of delicious vegan options too(gluten free teff or rice also available. …just let them know ahead of time because they make everything fresh). Do not miss out on ordering the coffee here… it’s hand roasted and you can absolutely taste the difference. Dessert menu coming soon. Service was attentive, informative and friendly. This is a family run restaurant and the minute you enter you feel as if you are part of their family too. Nice ambiemce and if all that’s not enough it’s BYOB. Definitely one of my go to local joints moving forward!

This review is based on one visit on a special weekend, Ethiopian New Year, during which the chef created a special brunch menu comprised of some traditional and other less traditional dishes. I was told by the host that the dinner menu is different with primarily traditional dishes. Regarding the new year, many people in Ethiopia and Eritrea are Greek Orthodox. I tell you this because I learned it from our really wonderful server, who was warm, welcoming, personable and with a great sense of humor. On to the eating: We shared two brunch dishes, one a traditional breakfast dish called Ful(fava beans simmered in garlic and cumin and topped with chopped tomatoes and jalapeños), and the other, Egg Silici(scrambled eggs in a spicy Eritrean berbere sauce). Everything is served with teff(specific to Ethiopia) and wheat flour flat bread. Everything was delicious. YUM! FYI teff flour alone is gluten free. I’m guessing that the balance of seasoning used at Teff is weighted on spices other than salt. Other Ethiopian meals I’ve had were saltier than what we were served at Teff. So, you may want to adjust your salt expectations. Teff is a class act. Great staff, sunny and open room, and delicious food.
