First time coming here, and there isn’t a reason for me to come back. Initially came here because apparently their milkshakes were bomb, but I didn’t even get to try them out since the food was off scale. Ordered a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich, and everything was served on a hot dog bun. Cheese was not even melted, meat was semi warm, and the only flavor that I could even taste was from the bun. Fries were mediocre — -not crispy, were mushy, and again… semi warm. We ordered cheese fries, and it looked like it was sitting there for a good 2 hours. There were barely any cheese, yet again was semi-warm, and the outer appearance didn’t even look right. Had to ask for ketchup, that’s bottle was close to being empty. Apparently the manager is aware of these mishaps since he claims that he has to take the time out of his own hands to make up for the mistakes others are doing. Won’t be there to experience it, but hopefully they’ll have a new management that can do things accordingly.

The only saving grace was the food at this place. The service was horrible, they ran out of milk, sausage and bananas. We ordered milkshakes to go and after waiting 15 minutes for them, they were the WORST we have ever had. It didn’t even taste like they put ice cream in them. Manager didn’t really seem to care and just said he made the milkshakes just like he always does. Will NEVER go back to this place.

Excellent customer service, very attentive. I ordered the chicken fried steak, eggs and French toast and a Oreo malt. The chicken fried steak literally tasted like half a bottle of salt and I’m not being dramatic. They didn’t do anything about it when I told them it was way too tasty to eat. I didn’t get a refund, so i threw it away and wasted $ 20. Lesson learned, not eating here again.

I went here for lunch with colleagues. We came in at 12:15pm but didn’t get our meal until 12:55pm. We were the first customers there, but all the other customers seem to have had their orders first. The waitress who took care of it simply did a horrible job. She was having her lunch when she is supposed to serve customers. One of my coworkers had the worst: not only was our lunched served super late, he also had raw chicken and raw fries. He had ordered a shake but they also did not make until after we paid. He left without getting the shake because he was that mad. After all this mess, there was no apologies made. Shake was ok.

The key phrase here is 50’s style diner fail. Foreignly owned and operated. I had to seat myself and waited about twenty minutes for someone to even offer me a drink. I grabbed my own menu. I was not greeted. Keep in mind at the time the place only had two people eating there other than myself. It was NOT busy. I told the manager I do not want cole slaw. He said they will try to take it off. He did not understand what I said when I told him I will forego the cole slaw. How hard is it to remove an item from an order not made yet? Seriously? I’ll try was his response. Also, he refused to substitute anything for the cole slaw I did not want. So I settled for him trying to take it off of my order. Service here was slow to nonexistent. There are two big screens that are muted with golf on the screen. Ambient music is old, 50s music. The manager is Indian. He stands behind the workers and looks over their shoulders. He did not understand me well when I spoke in plain American English. Food took a long time to come out. This was not my first visit. Their prices have gone up since last time. They repainted the exterior of the restaurant. I don’t recommend coming in unless you are in the mood for a long wait. I ordered the chicken tender basket and left hungry. The portion size left a lot to be desired. There was very little chicken and mostly fries. The food was greasy, but taste was ok. There were bugs on my table and condiments! I took pictures and posted to Unilocal.I told my server and the manager. They did not offer me any discounts. They did offer to move me to another table. The bugs were running down the length of the window sills down onto all of the tables! Ants specifically. This place needs an inspection by the health department.

I wanted some chicken and dumplings. I ate here a year ago and the food and service was good. Not so now. Wais at the front for 5 minutes. No service. Not even acknowledgment. Watch the waitress serve people, take orders and clean tables. Ok. I will. Go sit down maybe that is how it works now. 10 minutes of sitting at a booth and still nothing. Left and went to Kelley’s.

Not sure why I keep coming here except I have two groupons that expired and I am trying to use them. Try current waitress is nice but doesn’t know the first thing about the menu. She has been here one week. Every question we ask she has to excuse herself to go ask. I feel sorry for her. My last visit, the waitress actually left to go to the corner cvs because the owner had a headache and she needed to buy him Tylenol. No lie. We were patiently waiting to get our bill and she wasn’t even in the building. This waitress is still here so that is something to be positive about. There are never any crowds here. In fact the cars in the lot must belong to the staff. The kids eat free with a paying adult mom thru Thursday. I guess that helps. If I ever do finally use these groupon coupons, which incidentally are not honored on weekends, I will not be back. The food is just tasteless. We got waffles that were ok. Chicken fried steak which was enormous. Fried shrimp that was meh. The fried chicken was rubbery. No taste. I don’t know. It’s just not worth the time. My waitress was nice though.

Came here and had the chicken and the eggs omelette. Chicken is a bit overcooked but overall quite tasty. Service is excellent. The gentlemen that served us was very attentive and friendly. One stars down because the wait was a bit too long. But not bad at all, would come back again.

Having a hankering for breakfast so thought we would pop into the 59 Diner for a bite. The atmosphere is fun and 80’s does 50’s. Great 50’s music playing. The downside is the servers do not wear classic diner uniforms but what appears to be frumpy street clothes. The whole place needs a good scrubbing. This would be a great place for classic car clubs to meet or live 50’s music and dance. The service was fair. Not the best, not the worst. Not many customers at the time of our visit so if it were busy, service may be slow. Now for the food. Our order included Chicken & Waffles, T-bone steak and eggs, Gaucho Skillet. Prices are high for the quality and portion sizes. The Gaucho skillet is very small. Would be priced right about five dollars less. The steak and eggs came out hot, good flavor. Again, priced a little high for portion size. Chicken & Waffles came out good. For ambience, I would rate 3 – 4, there is room for improvement to make it more 50’s style. Cleanliness between 1 – 2. Booths need attention, paint for touch up on dingy areas. Food, I rate 3. There is so much potential here. My ultimate score of 2 is taking all aspects into consideration. Hopefully the owners/management will take a serious look at the reviews and strive to reach a 5 star rating for the future.

Just a diner. It’s nothing exceptional, nothing absolutely terrible either. Honestly, if it’s a late night I’d rather eat Ihop or whataburger before this place… and if its not, then why would you eat here? Not impressed

I have been eating at 59 Diner for years, mostly at the S. Shepherd location and have never had a bad meal. The portions are generous and the prices are good. For about the last 2 years I have frequented the Stafford location. I still have no complaints. The food, service, and pricing are all very good. It’s mostly comfort food and that’s what you go there for. However I have had a couple of their salads, Greek and Caesar, and they were very fresh and the dressing was delicious. In response to the earlier review that talked about the dirty men’s restroom, my husband and I have never seen a dirty, badly maintained restroom(men’s or women’s). I have posted a photo my husband took of the men’s restroom, it was clean and nothing was broken.

I’ve visited this location of 59 Diner about a half-dozen times over the years. Service is always spotty at best. I’ve had trouble getting shakes made both times I’ve ordered one, and it’s rarely possible to get a refill on iced tea or water. My father and I last visited this location on February 13, 2015. We were drawn in by a banner that claimed new management. There were eight other tables with customers when we walked in. There were also five servers, one back by the kitchen pass-thru, and the other four were talking by the entrance door. We stood by the door waiting to see if anyone would acknowledge us, but they didn’t. The waitress by the kitchen finally called out to us to sit anywhere. She came to our table with menus and took our drink order. Ten minutes later, another server brought our drinks. He then asked us if he could start us out with something to drink… We told him the drinks he delivered were fine, and gave him our food order. My father ordered the salmon, and I ordered the turkey and dressing. Thirty minutes went by, food went out to other tables, then we called over(I believe) the manager. He asked us what we ordered, went back to the kitchen, and said it would be out shortly. Fifteen minutes later, our plates arrived. The salmon was very overcooked, completely dry. The turkey consisted of thick slices of deli meat that had been warmed on the hamburger grill. They tasted like beef grease and salt, and were basically leather. The dressing was cold in the middle, and the red potatoes were extremely greasy. We got them to take off the turkey plate, paid the remainder, and left. I wouldn’t recommend this location of 59 Diner to anyone. The banner outside said new management, not better management. I’ve eaten at the location on Shepherd at Farnham many times over the last twenty years and never had service or food this bad.

I really used to like this place. Friendly service, though sometimes slow, but the kind of place where your waitress sometimes remembered your drink from last time… But tonight I walked a few blocks to have a late night milkshake. They used to be served with a second metal cup to top off your glass… Used to. So, now it’s still almost $ 5 with tax for a single milkshake that can be up to a third whipped cream… Not cool, 59 Diner. Not cool.

I wanted to like this place, but it wasn’t very good. I ordered the chicken Alfredo. It was clearly reheated in a microwave. The chicken wasn’t bad, but there was little pasta and the sauce had separated into pools of butter/clumps of cheese. The other dish was the salmon – not special. The broccoli cheese casserole was made with frozen mushy broccoli. Hopefully, someone with restaurant knowledge will buy this place. It could be really nice with new management/ownership.

What a joke. My family used to come here on a regular basis and have never had a bad experience. The waitresses were all very nice and accommodating but, as soon as we walked in the door, we could tell there was new owner/management. 1. Since there was no hostess, a guy sitting at one of the tables(not even sure who he was) just told us to sit anywhere. 2. After about 10 minutes, the waiter/manager(?) came to take our order and was sweating profusely and had bad hygiene. 3. When the food finally arrived an hour later, half of it was missing. 4. Probably the worst part of this experience was when he finally brought the 2nd half of the order. We ordered French-toast sticks and they came in a plate that was previously used. It was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen/experienced at ANY restaurant. Until this place changes owners again, I will NEVER be back.

I made a Unilocal just because of this place. A friend and I had gone to get some food overnight, it wasn’t even that busy or anything. We got there, they took our order and everything was fine. A couple comes in about 10 minutes after us and orders. My friend and I were waiting for over 25 minutes waiting for our food and realize that the couple had got there food before us! That’s when we walked out. The manager(I believe) comes running out to us saying we’re not allowed to leave. That’s what kind of upset me. We explained to him that people had came in after us and got their food before us! He proceeds to first blame the waiters then said WE were lying! Why the hell would I lie about such a thing? After a couple of minutes of arguing with him outside, he says sorry and walks back inside.

I don’t know where to begin. This place has really, really gone downhill over the last year. I’m not sure if the owners/managers really know how to run a business, a restaurant, or how to staff it all appropriately. I know waitstaff turnover is high in any facility, but coming here twice a week, I can tell you that they have been through too many for it to be normal turnover. Only one waitress has survived, and her poor, harried soul may be ready to leave at any moment. The food hasn’t necessarily changed, but there have been far more valleys than peaks, and that is why it’s been a while since I’ve been in. The last time I was here the cooks walked out mid-lunch. Today, there are far more dirty tables than normal, a lady harassed the manager about other folks who were sat after her getting to order before her, people were taking a while to get cashed out, etc. Get it together guys! Everything’s fixable! Edit: I typed that while waiting on my food, and it’s still not here. The manager is comping the food, so I appreciate that he’s trying.

I don’t understand what has happened to 59 diner. Their food is mediocre at best and their service is deplorable. Can’t figure out how they are still open. We waited for a server for a long time. I finally got up to get menus. I was ready to go behind the counter to get beverages, but was stopped by a member of the wait staff. The person I assume was manager appeared to just be staring off into space. I saw him walk the floor one time. If he was the manager he was not managing. No refills were offered ever on our beverages. There was no sign to seat yourself. The cashier was hidden and another customer waiting to be seated walked out while my husband was paying. And into mid January, they still have Christmas art on the windows. It is really a shame how this place has gone downhill. It could be a nice late night spot for groups or a nice breakfast brunch option to ihop.

Just returned from 59 Diner. Pretty good diner food. The highlights after a few years of visits: Pancakes pretty good, chocolate almond mocha shake, pretty good. Patty melt(ask for a side of mustard) pretty good. This is a late night place to go with friends. Or, anytime your in the mood for dinner food. Always plenty of seats. They have a unique 59 Diner culture… No hostess, so you pick your seat… and sit. Usually you are spotted right away by staff. And 9 times out of ten, they tell you to pick a seat and sit anywhere you like. It stuck me as odd a few years ago, the laid back one-off-ness, but that’s the vibe, drive your bus & they’ll meet you to take your order. And they do an ok job of it. What 59 offers is a place to have good conversations. So if you need to chat, bring your friend/s and chat away. There’s a comfortableness here. TV flat plannels in all direction & old rock and roll playing. So take a seat, and we’ll get which ya. Sure, there is Staff rotation, but management seems alright I give them 3.5 stars. The staff seems hungry and willing to try. I have read the other comments… and appreciate the comment, but give people down on their luck a chance. They are starting somewhere. Respect that. And I respect management for giving them a step up. As far as the one Unilocal comment stating staff reporting there was no register, that’s a new one on me, and I’ll keep an eye peeled. You are right to take notice. Follow it up with the owner.
