Love this place! Eat here every time I come to the beach! Their shrimp tacos are the best!

I love the food here, but that’s literally the only thing that keeps me coming back. The service is terrible every time I come here. Tonight I came at 8:50pm(restaurant closed at 9:30) as a server myself, I knew it was near close, so the plan was to be as quick and simple as possible. It took the bartender until 9:15 to ask us for our drink order and when we mentioned we were in the service industry ourselves, she had the audacity to say to us «you’re servers and you just got here when I’m about ready to close?!» :jaw drop: All four of us were offended, and then watched a family of 5 get turned away for dinner at 9:24…but then two gentleman(who must have been regulars) sit at the bar well after 9:30 and get served dinner. Seriously, Agave? I recommend this place to my restaurant guests, out of town visitors, and random people all the time. Not anymore.

We had dinner here on our vacation and really had a good time. There margaritas were on point which is obviously a must for a Mexican restaurant. We had queso and that would’ve been my biggest complaint it was more like warm cheese and you really couldn’t dip anything in it it tasted good though. I had the enchiladas and my husband had the tacos. The enchiladas were really really good. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Husband really enjoyed his tacos too. Service isn’t great it’s really small and they are a bit understaffed. All in all a decent restaurant.

Food was so-so. Really good shrimp tacos, tacos al pastor were not authentic. They are usually my favorite, but I couldn’t stand the flavor. What made things worse was the very poor service. Planned on tipping on the lower side but when we received the check the tip had already been added on– 18%, even though we were only a group of four. Would not come back. No vendríamos otra vez.

Great food!!! Everything was very authentic and the staff really came together and helped each other out during the rush. If you love tequila, be prepared for a two page list to choose from!!!

Heard of this place having really good food, so we stopped by. The place itself is small and but they have outside seating. We where quickly greeted at the door and we’re allowed to sit where ever we want. We firat had chips and salsa and guacamole. Very fresh and tasty. My wife had pork and I had fish, both were excellent. Service was also great. Best part was the price. Very resonable.

the food is ok. nothing to rave about. service is typically slow since it’s always busy and one of the male bartenders just wasn’t friendly. I think there are other Mexican restaurants that can beat this one :)

Agave delivers gorgeous food every single time we go. We’re locals and frequent Agave regularly. The owners are from Mexico and are excellent chefs & hosts. There are enough types of tequila to please everyone & always a delicious Spanish red in the house. I order crispy tacos & my husband has a pork in a verde sauce. Everything is utterly delicious.

My wife and I were in St. Pete Beach for one of my best friends birthdays and the St. Anthony’s Triathlon this past weekend. On Friday night we walked over with our friends from the hotel for dinner at the restaurant Agave on Saint Pete Beach. Our appetizers & drinks were fine and what you’d expect at average sit down Mexican restaurant, we ordered two orders of salsa, guac and cheese dip for the table. However, our main dish, chicken fajitas is where we ran into a BIG Problem — my wife bit into a fajita and found a metal twisty tie wrapped around one of her pieces of chicken. We brought the situation to the manager’s attention and she offered to bring us two shots of tequila that we did not want. We gave these two shots of tequila away to other people at our table. When our bill came they still had the audacity to charge us for the chicken fajitas. Additionally, they charged us for a taco that my wife ordered and they never brought. I asked for the waitress to bring over her manager. We explained everything to the manager again, and she said I gave you two shots of tequila that cover everything and that stuff like leaving metal twisty ties in the food sometimes happens. Horrible dinning experience! Horrible customer service!

Excellent Mexican food and extremely nominally priced. The $ 5 margaritas are good and strong, and the pico de gallo and salsa tray is extra, but worth it. The $ 8 taco platters are the way to go; try the beef brisket!

Service — hostess was very sweet; older Hispanic lady who waited on us was horrible. She was rude, forgot to bring out my drink after she took my cup away; refused to substitute cooked onions for beans and cut me off in the middle of my question. The food was cold and dry. Horrible.

Amazing authentic tacos with a small twist in each recipe. Salsa variety is great with three heats and pico. Love how cozy this place is

We are here to eat dinner today. One of the people in our party is absolutely high maintenance and has excruciating standards. And he can’t stop talking about the dinner and we aren’t even fully done yet. He is raving it about it. And we’re right here eating it. We know. It’s good eats for sure. The general opinion around our table is that there is something quite wrong with the 193 prior reviews for this joint(on average). This is NOT Aa 3 star restaurant. This is a great place for a great meal. The place is not too big, not too small. Great seating around a fully stocked bar. Beautiful music. Two tv’s. Outside seating options. Parking right out front! What else do you need? $ 2.50 Bud Lights. They are not here to rip you off. Value priced. Affordable to take out the entire family without breaking the bank too. The wet burrito with green sauce was fantastic. The four mini tacos barbacoa with rice and beans. The version with beef tongue(leangua) was exquisite. The wafting of peppers and onions in the air just makes you melt in your seats. They are here to make you a happy happy customer. Friendly service tops off the experience. Seriously, what else can you ask for?

I was relunctant to visit Agave when I read the review. It seemed everyone slammed it for bad service, but we went for a visit and had a good time. The wait staff was very attentive, so I would disregard and of the previous reviews here on Unilocal. Also the food was very good. I had the Enchiladas de Pollo and it was excellant. My friend had the Enmoladas in Mole Sauce and she really enjoyed those. They have a full bar and I had a Margarita straight up and it was very good. My friend had a frozen Margarita and she said it was very good. We each had two, so that is a vote of confidence. All and all I like Agave and I will be visiting again.

Its so hard for me to rate my favorite Mexican joint in Pinellas county… IF you sit at the bar its usually 5 stars, but if you can’t find a spot and get stuck at a table the service just isn’t there. This visit I was lucky and snagged a seat at the bar(YAY). Now lets start with the margaritas, as someone who doesn’t like tequila I don’t think its fair I don’t get to participate in margaritas… So I get margaritas with vodka instead. The boyfriend gets a few different tequilas and we both agree they are some of the best. Everything tastes fresh, it doesn’t taste syrupy-y and they go down a little too easy. I ALWAYS get the Laguneros tacos with a side of cheese dip. Sometimes, I get 2 orders, don’t judge me. They are just juicy enough and tastes amaziiinnnggggg. I have been known to stop by on my way to the beach bars, then come back later for a real meal. The boyfriend usually gets the gorditos, which are delish. I have to put cheese dip on them, because cheese makes everything better. You get three different flavors, which I like because variety is the spice of life, right?! This time I was talked into trying a cinnamon tequila that I added to the homemade horchata and a shot that was similar to a baby Guinness, so good. The same guy is always there when we go(usually on the weekends) and he is great. They remember my boyfriend more than me, probably because he has been going there for years. I’m excited to try more things on the menu, the bartender suggested something about a «christmas pepper» that we will add to the tacos. I tell everyone I can about Agave because I think its the best, and t also feels authentic. Its no where near American tex-mex. Give it a try, and take a cab home.

Good food terrible service. We were a party of 7, it took an age to get seated and I eventually had to steal a seat from another table, so we had enough room to sit and eat. We were served our meals without cutlery and had to ask several times for forks to eat our meals. 7 orders and 4 were wrong! Its a pity because the food was good.

As others have noted in their reviews, service is often not particularly good, and all I can do is offer a +1 to that opinion. My most recent visit was a Thursday night at 8:30p when things were winding down. It was a party of three with my wife and child(high chair age). She went inside to see if there were tables, waited for a hostess and after a few minutes of being ignored, came back out to let me know there were tables; we decided to go in regardless. After a few minutes of waiting, we were seated. There were only four parties in the restaurant at the time, and at least six service staff, so why was there five minutes of waiting to be acknowledged? Anyway, the food is great authentic Mexican, so obviously we come for the food, and we return repeatedly for the food. The menu is very large, and I’ve found numerous items I like, so it can actually be difficult to choose when I’ve got so many options I really enjoy. I think my #1 is their Pollo con Chipotle; it has a fantastic sauce. The meals come with chips & salsa, but not very much, so you’ll have far more chips than you will salsa. Unlike most places, you do get a helping of salsa with three different sauces to combine with it on your chips; a tomatillo, a chipotle, and a hot habanero. On the drink side, they have 40+ tequilas available, so if that’s your thing, they probably have it. They will also make a margarita from the tequila of your choice for the shot price plus $ 2, so that’s a nice option to have too if you’re picky about which tequila is used. The house margarita is so-so in my opinion; too much mix and too little tequila. Their other margaritas are better but the price rises quickly. If you’re really just looking to do some margarita drinking, try Woody’s a few blocks north(special pricing on Mondays) or VIP Mexican up in Treasure Island(great $ 5 margs any day and $ 3 on Thursday). Parking is in short supply, so you may not be able to get a spot. The location is also not very stroller friendly as the tables are spaced pretty tightly.
