This was my first foray in the St. Louis food truck scene, which I must say is an awesome development. Way to put the city on the map, guys. The Sausage Syndicate did the trick: the food was good, service was fast, and the staff was friendly. They get three stars for two reasons: 1) $ 8.50 is just too much for a sausage and chips. Throw in a drink and I’ll get behind it. 2) Sausage is heavy(i’m pretty full), but for the price I wanted more toppings, or more chips, or something. I got the Wiseguy, which is apparently the crowd favorite, and it was really good, but could have been so much more. The peppers and onions are a nice touch, but what you get looks like something you could make at home. Also, maybe I’m missing something, but the peach thyme mustard just tasted like mustard to me. The chips are deeelicious. And honestly it was a good sausage. With some tweaks this food truck will be where it’s at.

Even though I had to wait 20 minutes(really unheard of for a food truck) the sandwich of the day I ordered, the Big Newton was very good. Apple and pork sausage, cheddar cheese, bacon and rosemary garlic aioli, a sandwich I would easily order again. They also have a sandwich for the vegetarians friends that come along. I would go here again, but would ask about the wait. I think this day they must have been down one person because most trucks have someone that just takes the orders and doesn’t cook also.

I tried The Sausage Syndicate at a food truck event in Tilles Park — apparently this is going to be a regular thing, and I hope it is! I liked the«gangster» aesthetic, though the woman on the logo reminded me vividly of Carmen Sandiego. As a beer nerd, I had to try the Super Schlafly, a sausage made with Schlafly Hefeweizen, served on a pretzel bun and topped with sauerkraut and mustard. I’m used to being disappointed by specialty sausages, but I was really impressed by this one! The sausage didn’t taste too heavy, and the sweetness in the bun and kraut was perfectly balanced by the tanginess of the grainy mustard. Definitely a win. All of their sausages come with chips. They were big, crispy, and tasted house-made(not sure if they actually were). I ate all of them! While the food gets five stars, the pricing makes me drive it down to four. $ 8.50 is pretty steep for a sausage and chips. The thing that bothered me most is that they don’t offer the option to order a sausage ala carte, with no chips. Don’t get me wrong — the chips were good — but this is a food truck, I should be able to get cheaper food without the extras.

Tried these guys for the first time at a recent Food Truck Friday in Tower Grove Park. They really go over the top with the 1930’s gangster theme, which I thought was cool– the employees even dress accordingly! The menu is pretty diverse and has a good variety of sausages for different tastes, including a sausage of the week. There are a few choices for sides and drinks as well(though no moonshine… one can dream, right?!) I ordered a Right Hand Man, which is a beef sausage filled with onions, cheddar, bacon crumbles, and a root beer BBQ sauce. When my order finally arrived, they ran out of potato salad, so I got chips for my side instead. The thing was delicious– I was savoring every bite, especially the ones that included crispy bacon crumbles. I could taste each ingredient that went into the making of this sandwich, although I wasn’t able to notice a hint of root beer in the sauce. My chips were pretty good too, and tasted like they were oven baked. Final verdict? I’d ideally like to give 3.5 stars, because while the food is great, their pricing is akin to going to a baseball game. You’re gonna spend $ 8 – 9 for a specialty sausage and chips, which seems a bit too high for me when drink isn’t included. However, it’s really good, and definitely worth checking out at least once.

Hm, not bad, this food truck of all things sausage. Each sausage is 1⁄3 lb, and is made by a local butcher according to The Sausage Syndicate’s specific specifications. Ha, try saying that 7 times fast. During a recent food truck feast, one of my friends got the Wiseguy, which is spicy pork sausage with grilled onions, sweet peppers, and house made peach thyme mustard accompanied by a side(spicy potato salad, in his case). He ate most of the Wiseguy before turning over the rest of the sausage and most of the potato salad to me. What can I say, I’m a cannibalistic pig. The pork sausage was pretty decent, but that’s basically it. The grilled onions and sweet peppers were limp and oily. There was some zing to the mustard, which was unique, but unfortunately, the bread could also have been better. It wasn’t as crisp and tasty as I had hoped. Even the sausage and mustard couldn’t have made the rest of the meal shine. The potato salad was pretty disappointing also; it was really bland without much taste. For $ 8.50, I was hoping for much better… but maybe I’ll give it another try… all on my own another time. And yes, they do take Square.

I noticed that the Sausage Syndicate didn’t have a page on Unilocal yet, which is a shame. As the name implies, this food truck sells one main item: Sausages. They have a salsiccia, a bacon/cheddar beef sausage, an andouille, a Mexican sausage, and more. They might rotate some of their items, because when I went there I’m pretty sure they had a chicken cordon bleu sausage that is no longer on their website. Or maybe it wasn’t popular. I don’t know. Anyway, all of their sausages are 1⁄3 lb, served on a bun, with various toppings. Some of the toppings are rather creative, like a root beer BBQ sauce. They say their sausages are made by «a St. Louis-based sausage maker,» although they don’t reveal who it is. I ordered The Wiseguy, which is an andouille. You can get it with peppers, onions, and a peach thyme mustard. I actually only got a few bites of it before my wife decided that she didn’t like what *she* ordered from another food truck, and made me trade with her. Anyway, the few bites that I did get were pretty tasty, and the peach thyme mustard was good. Maybe a little greasy, but most sausage is, so I can’t blame them too much. The sausages come with chips, which aren’t Ruffles or anything like that — they’re pretty good. Prices might be a *little* higher than you expect; $ 7.25 — $ 8.50 for a sausage and chips. But I’ve found that food truck prices are a little high in general, so I can’t blame them too much.
