This is our favorite Chinese place around. It is a carry out only… Although there are tables to dine in it is not a welcoming atmosphere for dining in. The owners are very nice, and even delivered homemade Christmas ornaments during a delivery one year. Prices are right. Food is all homemade and delicious! The pot stickers are the best in town. We like chicken lo mein, empress chicken, and another favorite is chicken and vegetables. When you are looking for carry out look no further.

My office is about a quarter mile down the street from this place I’ve been there about 8 times. I’ve ordered the hot braised chicken lunch special everytime and been happy with it… especially since it’s only $ 4.95. However, I don’t think I’ll be going back again. Today I ordered my usual… boneless hot braised chicken with white rice and an egg roll. The guy behind the counter I’ve never seen working there before and we definitely had a communication barrier. I had to repeat my order 3 times and he wasn’t getting it, so finally I pointed to it on the menu. He then mistakenly attempted to charge me a dollar more than what it costs, so I had to correct him there. When I got back to my office I opened the food container and saw that my order was incorrect… I was given chicken wings with their hot braised sauce and fried rice. I called back and the woman I spoke with on the phone was nice and apologetic about the mix up. No big deal on my end, it was slightly irritating but these things happen. I drove back and they gave me the correct order without any hassle. The reason I don’t plan to go back has to do with the quality of what they gave me. The chicken tasted as though it was prepared on a dirty, charred cooking service. It was not edible. I could see black marks on all the pieces of chicken which is not normal. Also there was noticeably less meat than they normally provide… which doesn’t matter, because I threw it away and decided to cut my losses. So, is it coincidence that I was served disgusting food the first time I ever placed a complaint? Did an employee have an attitude about the fact that I complained? I don’t know, but the concept is certainly plausible. There are so many chinese restaurants on Manchester Rd that I see no reason to give this place another shot. Prior to this experience I probably would have given Sho Wok 3 stars at best. After serving me nasty food and wasting my time and money… 1 star!

I was craving Chinese at the last minute, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in and try Showok. All I can say is. BIGMISTAKE!!! Never again will we ever eat there again!!! I will drive cross country and back, eat crow, starve myself, ect… We are never ever, ever eating at Showok again. If I could give 0 stars I would. I’ll give the 1 star to the cleanliness of the restaurant, but other than that, this place SUCKS!!! We ordered ham fried rice, crab rangoon, an egg roll and an order of the cashew chicken(fried). The owner was off for the day, so her son was taking orders and cooking, if you could even call it that. He had absolutely no concept of meal suggestions for new customers. When asked about various menu items, he was clueless. This place has some of the worst fried rice I’ve eaten in a while…tasteless and disgusting!!! The cashew chicken was nothing to write home about. And let’s not even discuss who messes up egg rolls and crab rangoon??? This place has no concept of what decent, edible, tasteful Chinese food is!!! My tip, save your money!!! Eat elsewhere, don’t go!!!

Showok calls there food gourmet?! Please, you’ve got to be kidding! This was some of THEWORST Chinese food I’ve ever had. We ordered egg rolls, the filling was flavorless and gross. The pork fried rice had a weird yellow color and the pork was neon pink. Sweet and sour shrimp was mostly comprised of a mushy, rubbery fried batter, leaving very little shrimp to be found. I had a bad feeling when I walked in and should have went with my gut feeling and got the heck out! If I could give it zero stars I would. Can not recommend.

Glad I found this place, very good for standard Chinese carry out. I got the Triple Crown, a spicy chicken, beef, shrimp with veggies dish. The shrimp was flavorful and perfect, the chicken and beef were as well. All the veggies were cooked perfectly, colorful and crisp. General Tso’s pieces were big and juicy with an awesome sweet glaze. I also had the hot and sour soup, a bit too much pepper and spice but otherwise just how I like it. I’ve been so used to average quality Chinese I forgot how good it is when it’s done right.

Ever since our go-to Chinese food restaurant closed, we have been on a seemingly never ending journey to find an adequate replacement. After countless attempts, I think we’ve stumbled upon something that can compare to the deliciousness that was China Inn. We were referred to this carry-out place by a friend, and I’m so happy that he mentioned Sho Wok to us. We tried it three weeks ago, and we have ordered it four times since our first visit. We love their crab rangoon, their pot-stickers are delicious, the fried rice is pretty good, but their fried cashew chicken takes the cake! It’s lightly fried and is covered in some sort of sweet sauce that is beyond tasty. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some good Chinese food. BONUS– they deliver to my house! If you live within a few mile radius of their store, they will bring the food to you. I know this is pretty typical of a Chinese restaurant, but after 20 years of not having China Inn delivery available, this concept is pretty novel to me.

I can really only review a few things here, because it’s all we ever get. Deep fried cashew chicken. Just terrific. Having gone to college in Springfield, MO(fried cashew chicken capital of the planet), I had been searching high and low for something comparable. This isn’t that chopped up, veggie-laden sorry excuse that people pass off around here — it’s the real deal, but better. Sure, they offer that other, healthier kind, but whatever. They use high quality chicken here, and the cashew sauce is somewhat sweet & not gravy-like, which is something I’ve encountered a lot in the Lou. A large order is sufficient for two people to split, provided that an order of crab rangoon accompanies it. They have a very nice chicken fried rice, and the sesame chicken is also solid. It’s definitely an unassuming location & while there’s a couple tables inside, there’s not much to say for the ambiance at all, so takeout is key. They have delivery too. Sometimes. It’s spotty. A nice family business. I do wish they had brown rice, and take note that it’s usually like pulling teeth to get them to pony up on the duck sauce.

The food is good. It is the best I’ve found in St. Louis.

I came here when I was having some work done to my work vehicle and had to eat somewhere within walking distance. I ended up getting the sesame chicken and it was very good. I decided to go with the crag rangoon for the side and they were pretty good as well. The people who work here were extremely nice as well. If I am back in the area I will be sure to stop here again.

Very modest family restaurant. I called in my carryout order and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, and it was. I was grateful the person on the other end of the line could understand me and me understand them. The inside of the restaurant does have a few tables and chairs, but it’s more of a carryout atmosphere. I ordered hot and sour soup, pork egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken and sesame chicken. The soup was awesome. Nothing about it was too overbearing in flavor, except it left a pretty peppery kick lingering in my mouth. The egg rolls were pretty good too. I wanted vegetable egg rolls but they only have pork… so pork it was. The last time I had an egg roll was back home with my grandma over 10 years ago… talk about nostalgic. It was yummy in my tummy, I need to eat more egg rolls. The sweet and sour chicken wasn’t my first choice, hubby’s #1, it was okay. I liked that the sweet/sour sauce was kept in a separate container from the chicken. I could add as much or little sauce as I wanted and the chicken was nice and crisp because it wasn’t sitting and getting soggy in the sauce. The sesame chicken rocked it for me. I love sesame chicken and their chicken was in nice sized meaty pieces with not too much fat and it was glazed with awesome sesame saucy goodness. Not only did I get fortune cookies, I got what looked like almond cookies too. I still preferred the fortune cookie more. But nice surprise to see a little extra something something put in my carryout bag. Everything was pretty A-Okay…but my socks are still on so it wasn’t blow me away, knock my socks, OMG amazing… but it was GooOooD. If I lived closer I could see frequenting it more often.

Outstanding!!! I have never been here before and decided to give it a try. Small place, nothing special on the inside, just a family run Chinese food restaurant that whips out phenomenal crab rangoon, and phenomenal is an understatement. I also had an egg roll, and their hunan chicken. The hunan chicken was fantastic, the chicken was not fatty, the veggies were fresh, and the egg roll was perfect. It’s hard to talk up a Chinese place in STL since there are quite a few of them, but Showok is above the rest. Oh yeah, I was able to get 6CR’s, ER, and a half order(if that’s a half order, a full order could feed a village) for 12 bucks. That’s dirt cheap IMO. I would have given them 5 stars but they only take cash or checks, not debit or credit cards. This is something they need to really consider changing because it could lead to a lot of missed customers, and while we were eating in there a guy who placed an order for pick up came with no cash and had to go find an ATM… I really hope they change that policy eventually. If you are in Kwood on Manchester and looking for Chinese, go fo-sho! ***Update*** They now take cards! 5 out of 5!

I have not had Chinese Food since I moved to Kirkwood and when I began craving it, I knew it was time to find a new favorite place, so I referred to Unilocal. I would agree that it is the best American Chinese food in the St. Louis area. The Crap Rangoon comes with 6 in an order and is well stuffed, the Wonton Soup is amazing and the Beef with Broccoli has thick, juicy pieces of beef and crisp green broccoli. There was plenty of beef in the order. The price is great, especially for the portions. The only problem is that they only accept CASH or CHECK, which may be a blessing in disguise, and keep me from going there too often!

After having chinese express(in high pointe) burn down I became saddened that I would never again experience delicious, cheap, chinese food in carry out form again. Alas, it took moving to the suburbs to find my heart(even after they reopened CE it never fully recovered in my mind) pouring out with the opening of a takeout box. Can you tell? I LOVE chinese food. Although I am sure there is some MSG in my meal by the lovely«tasty» taste it leaves on my ‘buds, it does not leave me writhing in agony from the dreaded allergy headache I suffer from most take-out joints. This is something I have sacraficed for many years. So here’s a shout out to SW for getting the balance right. Secondly it cost me $ 21 to feed my family of four. This includes crab rangoon, egg rolls, sodas and our super-sized entrees. Super cheap is the way of the game around here but the taste is definitely NOT lost for it. That being said since we have a standing Thrusday order our food is ready 15 minutes after we call and they always give us way more fortune cookies than we could ever eat in a week. One downside. Closed on Mondays SUCKS.

Showok came to me highly recommended by a coworker, so I decided to give it a try for a quick dinner. My meal cost around $ 7 – I ordered a whole order of stir-fried chicken with cashew nuts. The food was unremarkable. It’s not that it was bad; just rather bland. I appreciated the addition of mushroom and green pepper to the vegetables that were stir-fried with the chicken. I felt like I got $ 7 worth of food, to be sure, but not food worth coming back for again.

By far my favorite(American) Chinese restaurant in St. Louis. It is a tiny little place that you can pick up from or they deliver if you live within 2 miles. Lucky me I live within 2 miles. A family run business with excellent food. Can’t say that it is gourmet just your regular options. But often in Chinese food you get gross parts from who knows where from the chicken, but here you get large pieces of white breast meat. They offer a great lunch special for $ 4.20 before 3PM. Basically their food is fresh, stemming hot and cheap!
