First of all, I love the name they chose and the location is a hit, only because I work downtown! Also, Selah Salon & Day Spa is now called Selah Studio. They are an Aveda concept salon which may or may not be for you. Check out the links provided below for more information on the concept behind Aveda salons. For women: For men: Overall Salon Services Offered 3 Pts(I’ve been there twice and on both occasions, I requested two-strand twists. On the first visit, the stylist started making comb coils/comb twists. I didn’t know at first because he was in the back of my head. By the time I saw the movement of his hands I knew something wasn’t right. When I asked him about it, he said they don’t do two-strands! The second time I went, I called ahead and asked if they do two-strands, and I was told YES. I got there and the«Master Stylist told me they don’t do two-strands, so we wound up doing flat twist. They say they do natural hair but I think that means blow outs and flat ironing.) Location of Salon 8 Pts(Downtown is ok with me) Hours of Operation 8 Pts(Average Salon hours) Walk-in Policy N/A Pts(I really don’t know if they have one. If I had to guess, I think it’s best to make an appointment) Payment Options 10 Pts(Cash and credit/debit card accepted) Atmosphere 9 Pts(Spa like to me. It was very calming each time I was there) Layout 8 Pts(Spacious — It’s like a loft type salon. It is very open with tall mirrors strategically placed. Every time you walk around, you are center of attention b/c it is so open and that may or may not be for you) Cleanliness 10 Pts(Organized to and clean. No hair or mess lying around on their beautiful floors. Stations were well kept) Music Selection Played 8 Pts(I don’t remember hearing any so if they were playing some, it was very low) Friendliness 9 Pts(The owner spoke to me on both visits. On the second occasion, she held a nice conversation. My first stylist and I hit it off personality wise. I didn’t like the style but I enjoyed his conversation. The second stylists didn’t talk a lot but she was nice. Salon Description Accuracy 7 Pts(I think they are more into natural plant based products than they are into styling natural hair. They did really nice blow dries on their European hair texture clients. African American women looked like they had relaxed hair but I can’t rightfully say if they did or not. I didn’t see any fro hawks or unique hair styles. Their clients did look to have healthy hair though) Stylist Initial Contact 8 Pts(Both times they seemed a little nervous and it showed in their face and voice) Personal Grooming 10 Pts(From what I remember, they all kind of dressed alike, in black and white. I liked that because it looked so professional and it allowed them to focus on the clients instead of auditioning for a fashion show) Hair Consultation 8 Pts(The first time, I filled out a hair regimen form and we went over that. The young man was excited about the detail in which I pay attention to my hair. The female stylist seemed to want to correct everything I was saying. That bothers me because my hair is healthy and I have spent a lot of time researching what works for ME. I hate when they think they know your hair after 2 minutes of washing it. I don’t like know it all stylist — they work on 100s of heads. I work on one and I know it well, thank you) Knowledge 4 Pts(The knowledge was subpar and generic. One time I was told to use a product that had silicones in it!!! We all know that’s a no-no and I told him, I don’t do liquid plastic) Ability to LISTEN and not Freelance 2 Pts(I told him no alcohol period. I brought in a natural product I wanted him to twist my hair with. Why did he mix it with an alcohol based brown gel? He said the alcohol content was mild but still. I do my twists/braids with a moisturizing product and I am not looking for hold. Well, since he mixed the gel in with my hair cream it turned to light brown GOOK that never really blended into my hair. People thought I tried to color my hair with light brown AND it was HARD as you know what to get out of my hair. I finally had to get a harsh shampoo to rid my tresses of the mess) Ability to Recreate from a Picture 2 Pts(I didn’t bring a picture but I didn’t get the hairstyle I wanted on both occasions) Conversation 6 Pts(Memorable with the first stylist, not so much with the second) Professionalism 9 Pts(They do check up on you when your under the dryer to see if you want water or something. On both occasions they constantly checked to see if I was dry rather than leaving me over there to fry) Products Used 7 Pts(Aveda for sure) Total Rating: 7(Mostly b/c of the atmosphere) Will I be back? NO, but that’s based off of my needs. If you have straight hair and want a pretty blow dry, I’d give it a shot.

Superior service; friendly staff who focus on the client. Fantastic facial for me; the other women in my group raved about the sugar scrub treatment and the pedicure. For anyone in downtown St. Louis, I would highly recommend.
