Humphrey’s Restaurant & Tavern

Wow! The thrilling adventure offered at this venue is second to none! As a child, I remember dreaming of winning the Tuesday trivia challenge. Yesterday, that dream came to fruition. Nothing compared to the feeling. I thank Humphreys for the experience, and I hope that someday my fellow Unilocalers can challenge my trivia skill and be defeated by myself, the master overlord.

An absolute classic. The burgers are great (thin patties) and the place has a great college bar atmosphere. I love all the SLU paraphernalia. Humphrey’s has a great patio and often has some pretty good live music. I’ve been many times and never been disappointed.

Oh Humps… College bar at its finest (or lowest). If I went to SLU undergrad maybe I would be fond of this place but in general it is like any other bar next to an undergrad campus. If you are over the age of 24 and like to drink without having newly minted 21 year olds spill their drinks on you than I would skip this bar.

Too bad. The service is very rude. And they give you the wrong order. You order one, but they give you two. Most important, they don‘t admit their mistake.

There is never anyone to serve the tables. We came here on a Saturday at 3:00pm and didn’t get a waitress until 3:40. We were told to sit tight until someone came to our table but there were only about 5 other tables occupied in the restaurant.
This place only caters to college aged kids on a Wednesday night. Don’t come here and expect any attentive service.

This place is a two sided coin.
For cheap drinks and a really chill atmosphere, I LOVE it.
The food though is FOUL! Its the greasiest fried garbage I have ever eaten. There was virtually no pickle in my pickle chips, the breakfast burrito was swimming in a pool of grease and the roast beef was dry. Absolutely worst place to go for a lunch.
That being said, the food is perfect for a night of heavy drinking.
Come for drinks, skip for lunch.

Very much a college bar with a decent variety of beers on tap and greasy bar food on the menu. Anytime you come in, you are bound to see SLU students and the occasional professor hanging out. They have some good booze specials throughout the week (as any good college bar would).

The two times I’ve come here, I’ve had to FIND the bartender. The last time, we waited 15+ minutes at the bar without a single acknowledgement from staff.
Why wait, you ask? The drink prices. I imagine that’s why they’re allowed to be total jerks to patrons. They have cheap drink prices and an ever-​rotating selection of college students nearby.
The food was fine.

Nice bar feel. However, totally disinterested acting waitress and half of food was adequately average… fries and burger… nothing special. Pancakes and bisquits and gravy ok. Fried pickles way over done. Would not recommend.

I love this place. Patio, beer, great food — they have breakfast until 11. It’s a bar with good food. It has always been clean.

Great place to go, great drink specials, and more importantly great chicken tenders! The service is sometimes spotty, but on average it’s pretty decent.

A classic. A bar for people who like to go to bars. Great bar food, I recommend the fried green beans with the chipotle mayo. They have great beer specials throughout the week and a great patio for live music.

Great college bar atmosphere! There’s an outdoor patio that’s great in the summer with live music on Wednesdays. Foods pretty good-​but pretty basic bar food. It’s a great place to meet up with friend or watch a game.

Love this place! Awesome atmosphere. so relaxed! Awesome «penny pitcher» specials on Wednesdays and sweet 3 $ big beer specials on Thursdays! Appetizers are okay. they do the job. Live music is jank but so much fricken fun! Humps for life

The first time we went here was about 2 weeks ago. We asked to sit outside because how many chances do you get to do that in January?! We also had our dog with us. The waitress was nice and did a great job. We could notice her getting overwhelmed once 3 more tables came outside and it was easy to tell they were understaffed. My boyfriend and I have both been in the industry so we were very understanding. The only downfall to this visit was waiting on the chipotle ranch for my fried mushrooms. So I held off on the mushrooms until the ranch came out, but it came with the check, and by then my mushrooms were cold, so I just gave them to my dog.
The second time we came here was last weekend, again we got lucky in January and had our dog so asked to sit outside. (I havent been here in the summer yet but I have a feeling it’s a really good time!) Our server was nice and everything came out great. I think she forgot to take the happy hour discount off our checks but it could’ve been worse.
Over all it’s a great dog friendly place, and in the summer time has a bar, live bands, bags, beer pong, and washers. Kind of reminds me of a larger Lloyd &.Harry’s for all you St Charles folk that can relate!

Truly for the college kids! Stopped in here after I finished some volunteer work near here. Figured I go for breakfast. Prices are great, works well on a budget. Menu is your basic bar/​grill type food, no surprises. I tried a breakfast burrito with bacon egg cheese and side of hash browns. Food comes out on paper plates, put me right in the mindset of being back in college. My order was very greasy, so much so, I didn’t finish all of my food. When you are college age, the grease may not matter much, but ‘um once you cross a certain threshold, you gotta think twice. Like I said, great place for your local greasy spoon, college kids and hangover food spot. Enjoy.

I used to go here when I went to SLU back in the day and remember it a bit more fondly. The staff wasn’t very nice and avoided us like the plague. After being harassed by a lonely 40 something sitting alone at the bar, we made our way to a booth on the complete opposite side of the bar where the waitress acted like we were an inconvenience. The prices for the food weren’t bad at all. Sadly, my homemade «hot chips» offered with my sandwich were anything but hot. Rather, they were cooled to below room temperature overly salted greasy potato crisps. BUT, my sandwich was good.
In case you’re wondering what happened to our «friend» at the bar that greeted us… he left, walked down Spring Street, and slowed down to creepily stare in the large picture window at us trying to enjoy our meal. Thank goodness their back parking lot is well lit…

College bar. Recommended to us as a good lunch spot. Two words. «College Bar». Ok, enough with the ambience. The menu seemed extensive. My wife ordered the BLT. It looked good and she devoured it. Son ordered the mini tacos. He liked them. I ordered the buffalo wings. I probably shouldn’t have. I have my favorite place and nothing compares very well. They were really good. Extremely good.
Everything served on styrofoam plates/​bowls. That was a first. Highly recommended BAR Food. Service good. I am definitely too old to be in here past 8pm.

Meh. I go to school in Midtown so Humphreys was a regular spot throughout undergrad. Besides all the undergrad memories, there is nothing special about Humphreys. Everything about it (food, drinks, atmosphere, etc) is just average.
They do play good music on the weekends though! And the birthday tradition of getting the plunger is always fun!
