Absolutely the worst waste of money you could spend. Food was bad, like inedible and the simple two entrée order was wrong. Not only were they in capable of making the food correct and edible but we wasted 45 minutes waiting on something we threw away. Thank god for peanut butter and jelly.

Horrible food. Avoid most everything on the menu at all costs. Why 5 stars? The redeemer… Their Special St. Paul Sandwich. It really is divine. The trick is to eat it before the bread dissolves. Add hot sauce or sweet & sour and experience nirvana for $ 3.

This place is very close to my house which makes getting there to pick up the food easy. I can’t say that I’m a connoisseur of any cuisine, but I think that the food is excellent. The thing is that we have eaten here for years, and the price has really gone up in the last 2 years. A quite large meal for 2 used to be $ 24-$ 25. I thought that was fair. Now, that exact same meal is $ 32. I don’t think I am being critical as much as I am giving folks a heads up.

have known about this place for quite some time, always see it busy so decided to give it a try to draw my own conclusions which I like to do so much. The place is conveniently located at the end of my block, they have off street parking behind the building. it’s a little hole in the wall place so don’t be expecting a nice ambiance to go with the meal, it just isn’t there. The food was pretty good, but lacking a little bit of something that would give it that umph needed to make it a satisfying meal. I had to wait a little bit to get my food which was due in part to it being crowded in the place which was an extra put off to me. will I return to Hong Kong express? probably not simply because that satisfying feeling I look for when eating out just wasn’t there in the least bit., it was good for a first time excursion, but no probably wont go back.

I’m on a quest to find the best Chinese take out in this city, and well… this ain’t it. It had a few people in the place for a Tuesday afternoon at 2:30pm. One cook, one cashier taking orders. To kill time while everyone else ordered in front of me, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. Pretty sure my hands were cleaner before entering that bathroom. When I walked back down the hall… There was a sign on the wall that said«please do not write on the wall». My first thought was«seriously?» Eh, why would people write on the walls at Chinese place? Oh well. Food: half order of chicken fried rice and 4 crab ragoons. Total $ 5.49. Paid. Left, and drove the 2 minutes back to my place. First bite of ragoon — tasted like under cooked dough. The imitation crab meat didn’t taste right to me either. Chicken fried rice — chicken was good, rice was dry. Dry rice is always no bueno. For what I paid and with how hungry I was, I ate it without reservation. The fact of this place is that if you want cheap, fast, and something fill you up, then Hong Kong Express is a good pick. Quality wise, it lacks that. I will probably go back here in such needs if I need to be cheap or to grab a quick bite. I certainly won’t be a regular here though.

It’s the best carry out Chinese food place in the city. I wouldnt ever dine in. Your impression of this place will be remain good if you just get your food and go enjoy it somewhere else. I never carry cash so it’s a little inconvenient to have to get cash before coming here. It’s worth it though.

Decent food. Decent price. What more do you want from a carryout? Despite the Chinese lanterns and wall art, the atmosphere isn’t conducive to dining in. Mostly the 40+ chairs are occupied by those waiting for their carryout orders. Cash only The food is dependably good, so the line gets long, and you may have to wait. Some food items can be a little salty, but we’ve never detected MSG. The convenient location with plenty parking behind the building makes this our go-to for Chinese carryout.

Firstly, let me say that a whole lot of the Chinese in St. Louis is bad. Having said that, HKE is the best I’ve had. I’d give it 4 stars, but they never have your order ready on time, they only accept cash, and they always charge you a dollar extra and act like you’re crazy when you point that out.
