Cool little bar inside the Lumiere Place casino. Built sort of in a circle with lots of big red leather couches ringing the bar itself and a smattering of hi– top tables in back. Been here three nights in a row watching the NBA playoffs on the flat screens. Bar staff, while different on each night, has been generally friendly and attentive. If the drinks were a bit stronger, maybe 5 stars. Give it a try if you get tired of the table games and slots.

Since it was still raining on July 4th but I didn’t want to continue gambling, I figured a casino bar would be a safe haven. It was OK. Again, my frame of reference for most casinos is Vegas, a place where if you *look* like you might want to gamble, you get free drinks. If you do have to pay for ‘em, they’re usually no more than a few bucks. So imagine my surprise when I looked at the drink menu at Globar. Granted, prices here were reasonable, but most drink prices around town are reasonable. Mike T ordered a Dos Lunas and grapefruit juice and it was only $ 4.75. That is pretty cheap. But my Key Lime Margarita was $ 6. And it was kind of gross. Nothing what I expected– it looked and smelled like Ecto Cooler mixed with Pucker. The clientele here was what you’d probably expect from a Landing casino lounge. I actually really liked the design of this lounge — wonder if they ever do private parties? That would be fun to be roped off from the rest of the casino but still be able to see the action going on around you. Unilocal party, anyone?
