Initially went in for their $ 6.99 lunch special. Cheeseburger, fries or onion rings with a drink can’t be beat. Really good burger, and they really do a good job getting you in and out for a quick lunch. So, after hooking me with their lunch special, I’ve tried Cousin Hugo’s a few times since then. It’s a great neighborhood bar with friendly wait and bar staff and really good, inexpensive food. Like I said before, the burger’s great, the wings are fantastic and the loaded chips! Oh man, are those loaded chips great. It’s potato skin toppings on their homemade chips. I’ll be back for sure!

Worst club sandwich ever. Probably an ok place to drink, but the food sucks. Too many other choices in the area for good bar food. I would recommend taking a pass on Cousin Hugo’s.

It has your typical bar food. I thought the portion sizes were small, but I realize that’s subjective. I do like the ambiance quite a bit; reminiscent of cheers. Seems like a good place to grab a drink.

I had their Cheeseburger. They were busy and decided not to cook. I should have sent it back but they were busy. I hope other people had better luck.

This place is a definite favorite of mine. Discovered it in passing, and have been going back often ever since. The burgers are the best, but everything I’ve had on their menu is fantastic. Food is reasonably priced and they have a decent selection of craft beers in addition to their domestic choices. John at the bar is a great asset to this place. He’s friendly and funny. If you are looking for a great casual atmosphere to enjoy the game or just grab a beer and a bite, Cousin Hugo’s is your place!

Great burgers. Homemade chips are tops as well. Liked the atmosphere, not to dark or noisy but enough you don’t feel like other people are eavesdropping. I’m from Chicago, but if I’m the area again Id come back.

Not only is this local bar and eatery in walking distance from our house, but they have deliciously cheap brews and burgers as well. They have a great lunch special daily. We love coming here during warmer months on the patio especially since they are dog friendly! They also have great drink and app specials during St. Louis sporting events. There appetizers aren’t as good as their sandwiches and burgers but for the price they are okay.

Burger was perfect size(not too big) and perfectly cooked. Bun was fresh and delicious. Picked and onion(offered raw for me and grilled for others) Beer was priced to move. Clientele was well behaved during Rams game. Clean, potty is fresh and perfect, smells great and staff was superb. Don’t know why I have not been here in 20 years. VIVALAHUGO!!! Perfect.

When you drive by Cousin Hugo’s it isnt eye catching. But thats ok with me. The service is fast, your food comes out hot and the drinks are cold and cheap. The bathrooms are cleaner than some chain resturants. I have had several things off their menu all of which are very good. The portion size is a bit smaller than some other local hangouts, but that doesnt bother me to much. I have had thier pizza, potato skins, wings and fish sandwhich. All of which I would have again. We have taken several people there who have lived in the area and havent been. They have had the same pleasant experience.

Not much of a looker from the curb, but a great place inside. It’s got a friendly gathering spot vibe that welcomes just about anyone. The kicker is the Hugo burger. Great sandwich. Perfectly cooked meat with delicious grilled onions; I got mine with cheddar cheese and it was great. The homemade chips worked well. They make their Toasted Ravs in house and are pretty good for a quick snack as well. Not as crisp as I like, but still a solid item for any St. Louis bar and restaurant. They’ve got pretty good bar deals as well.

Just a little shack bar that has THEBESTWINGSEVER. They have different sauces and the tangy yellow(or house) one is the best. It’s far superior than the crap at Syberg’s. Big, juicy wings. YUM. That’s all I ever get here. Such is life when you are a wing junkie. Service isn’t anything outstanding, but I can’t complain about going thirsty or anything. Good place to watch games and never too crowded.

Business lunch when I was short on time and wound up here. They have a burger/fried thing/drink special that is really good and very reasonably priced. If memory serves, it was $ 7 for a cheeseburger with grilled onions, onion rings and a soda. I also asked for a side of bbq sauce because it sounded like a good addition to their combo. Fast, yummy and relatively cheap — I’ll certainly be back!

oh the difference attitude and service can make on a business. So I went in after work last week to get that damn delicious fish sandwich and there was a younger gal behind the bar. I sat down and told her I would like a grey goose cosmo and that i like them light in color. I could see she didn’t know what she was doing and it was delivered to me and was cherry bomb red — AND it didn’t have a lime or lemon garnish… I took one sip and it was just too sweet for me so I caught her attention and asked if I could please have something else because it just was too sweet — I got the look of death… and decided on a Guiness she slam dunked that in front of me and it took 15 minutes to settle — -of course you know there was no cute little clover leaf made on top of the foam for me with this one!!! She ignored me the entire rest of the time and when it was time for her to close out she informed the older male bartender that I was trouble so he was curt and to the point with us the rest of the evening. I watched her make drinks and it was obvious she did not know how to pour and if your going to work a bar have fun with it… smile, banter with the customers, learn to make it how each person wants it with pleasure. We had a good thing going Hugo… but now I don’t feel like coming here… it is all about the cocktail for me and your girl fucked it up

Cousin Hugo’s is Maplewood’s version of Cheer’s. Plastic plaid tablecloths cover the old tables. A typical bar menu awaits you if you’re hungry. Burgers, wings, and fried goodies are the everyday noche for this dive. You’ll be greeted by warm, friendly faces and cheap drinks. It’s the type of place that you could easily make a fun Happy Hour spot where your server will know your name and most importantly what you drink. It’s not overly impressive, but would be a great spot to become a regular. Oh and they have life-sized jenga tournaments on Sundays! That looks like a blast.

Went in for Friday lunch. They had two specials going on — Cheeseburger, Fries, and Drink $ 6.95 or Half Slab of Ribs for(I think) $ 11.99. Burgers were good and filling. After my sandwich, I was so full. They filled my basket full of fries(McDonald’s size fries), and I could barely touch them. Tried the Fried Mushrooms appetizer — came with about 10 full size mushrooms and mild horsey sauce. These were something like $ 6. Seems like a comfy local spot. They were packed at lunch time, which tells me they are very popular. The outdoor patio out back doesn’t hurt either.

I’ve been here many times, always for lunch, although it’s been several years since my last visit. For the longest time they had a poster that was popular in the 70’s of a girl on a tennis court raising her skirt to show no underpants. It’s gone now, but it made it into the last decade, so that tell’s you something about the place. Not much has changed. You get the idea the owner is just legging it out to retirement and doesn’t want to put any money into updating. The only new decorations are freebies from the beer distributors. Our waitress was very friendly, no complaints there. I do have complaints, though, about the tablecloths. First off, why are they there at a hole-in-the-wall tavern? Secondly, how often are they washed? We were among the first customers for the day and they hadn’t been washed for us. Ick. Same for the old man coughing up god-knows-what a couple of tables away. Ick. I’m very happy about the smoking ban, if I haven’t mentioned this. I doubt I can say the same for the owner of Cousn Hugo’s. The menu reads like a bar food all star lineup. I tried and regretted having the tamale plate with onions and cheese. The onions were way too strong. The tamale’s were covered with okay chili. Overall it was okay, but not as good as many others I’ve had. For some reason, they serve a huge bowl of homemade chips with this meal. Not sure if anyone who’s not a pro wrestler needs to eat like this. The chips were good. The wife had a hot dog and fries. Looked okay. She said it was okay. I recall from past visits they have a decent burger and wings, but it’s been a few years. It’s a neighborhood dive that’s not likely to change.

Love Hugo’s as it reminds me of my old east coast haunts(sans the ocean alas… maybe I can get them to install a kiddie pool!!!). Food? Totally unhealthy and delicious! Beer selection? Pretty good. Essentialy Hugo’s is the place you can relax, eat bad, watch the game and RELAX!
