I worked for Baisch in the 90’s and they were great to me as an employee I was a floral sales representative, assisted florist in area with flowers and floral products. I had design skills so I was valuable. One thing about the owners, they do get in there with their employees and do the actual physical labor. It’s not as glamourous as one may think, it is nice atmosphere being around flowers, healthy too but it’s physical, requires a lot of walking, cleaning, climbing and taking care of the flowers areas, wrapping flowers and popping the string, smiling and making customers feel special. Being friendly is their motto, everything is excellent quality and shipped from the best growers in the WORLD. Now, I will occasionally will do a wedding and there is no other place to buy my flowers from than Baisch, the quality is the best in the area.

Over on LaSalle St. lies a wonderful little floral district, that we frequent on a regular basis. Our favorite stop on this street is a nice store called Baisch & Skinner. They have a wonderful selection of flowers, and across the street is their Market place. We use the Market place for a lot of decorating needs, especially the Christmas season. they have a year round Christmas room that has a large selection of trees, and ornaments and other assorted decorations, The rest of the place is loaded with a large selection of baskets, and rows of ribbons, and dried flowers. They are a wholesale only store, so you will need a tax number to shop there. The employees are very knowledgeable, and are extremely helpful, and my visits to the store are always pleasant ones where I can leave as a satisfied customer, which is always a good thing.

LaSalle St. between California and Ohio is St. Louis wholesale florist row. Baisch & Skinner, which started decades ago as the smallest of many, now is the largest, I believe, of a just a handful of wholesalers, occupying several buildings. It’s difficult for me to conceive the scale of the multi-state operation for which this is HQ, with thousands of customers. I imagine this customer base has been built through the same combination of high standards and friendly personal service that I’ve observed. The plants in the greenhouse rival anything you’ll see at a Botanical Gardens display. The«Market Place» is where you go to get your supplies for building displays. Currently, its Christmas Showroom feels a little bit like going into the outer chamber of Santa’s palace. Remember, this is strictly wholesale — you’ll need your business information and tax i.d. number. But if you’re an event planner or in the hospitality industry, I don’t believe that you’ll find a better source for live plants, cut flowers, and, to a certain extent, your holiday decorations.
