The food and service is outstanding! We go there every chance we get. The food quality is what you would get in a big city. The staff is super nice and go out of their way to make us feel welcome. The patio out back is woodsy overlooking the St. Croix river, very relaxing!

Wonderful service, amazing food and reasonable prices. I loved their take on the stroganoff. Portions are generous. I definitely recommend this as a date restaurant not for the family due to the size of the restaurant.

I’m not sure how anyone could rate this restaurant with only one star. When I saw that I had to write a review of my most recent experience at this restaurant. A good friend of mine was in town and I took her to the Bistro for dinner. We had the full dining experience of drinks, dinner and dessert. Both of us felt the food and the service were outstanding! I ordered the salmon(which I tend to be picky about) and it was probably the best I’ve ever had. We also both felt the prices were suitable to the quality of the food, service and overall presentation. Both of us would go back again for dinner in a heartbeat. It is true they don’t take credit cards at this time, but it wasn’t an issue for us since we both had cash. My advice to anyone looking for a great meal in the St. Croix Falls area-Go to the Bistro and bring cash. :-)

We recently ventured our way out to St. Croix Falls to check out Château Winery nearby. Since we were in the area, we thought it would be fun to check out the local restaurants which we stumbled into Tangled Up in Blue(sister restaurant to The Bistro). It was 5pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was empty, no table was seated. The manager greeted us and asked if we had a reservation, we said no. She proceeded to tell us they don’t seat anyone without a reservation and the prices are on the higher end, if we were still interested. With a slight insult with her quick judgment, we asked for a casual place to dine at. She recommended«The Bistro» with one disclaimer, they only accept cash. We asked if they had an ATM since we’re not from this area, we don’t know it well at all. She said they have an ATM and there shouldn’t be any problems. When we asked if there were any other places to look into, she said no other places around are as good. Off we went into the Bistro. We were greeted and quickly accepted patio dining since the scenery was beautiful. First thing we asked was if the ATM was in working order, he said yes. So we ordered our food and our wine. The food was a lot to be desired but the wine was enjoyed, naturally. After our meal came our bill of $ 60. Four girls, three had debit cards and one had $ 15, yes, I kid you not, $ 15. When we went to the ATM, the machine didn’t work. The server apologized and said he would have to restart the machine. we waited another 15 – 20 minutes for the machine to reboot. Again, we tried the machine and it failed again. We spoke with the server and he said he would call a tech out to fix the machine. Again, we waited another 20 minutes. A tech came out, and lo and behold, it was the manager who scooted us out of her restaurant at Tangled Up in Blue! She came to look at the machine and rebooted it, again. We waited, another 20 minutes. We tried the machine, again. It failed. She then says, we can go to the ATM at the gas station down the street and come back and pay the bill. #1. we asked specifically if the ATM worked, they mentioned yes. #2. three people were in the restaurant who were well aware of the issue and not one person piped up that there was another ATM nearby #3. we waited over an hour, patiently might i add, for the ATM to get«fixed» Because of the whole experience and inconvenience to us, we gave them the ultimatum of taking our cash or taking nothing at all. The manager from the previous restaurant threatened to call the police, which we took her up on. The police officer came to resolve the issue and she came over to us and stated she didn’t enjoy us «bitching» at her and giving her a hard time. Once the cop came and she said her choice words, she left without staying to resolve the issue. The only cop in town basically said, pay or get thrown in jail after belittling us and being very condescending. He asked us if we’ve ever been to a restaurant without paying, and I gave him an example when I went to Café Lurcat and they comped the whole meal, drinks included, without us complaining at all. They mentioned their kitchen and server staff was backed up and apologized for the wait. Unaware to us, the manager came and comped the meal. With that example, he didn’t put it into consideration and still threatened us. With that, we will never be back to St Croix Falls, step into any establishment on this street or nearby streets, never go to this restaurant or Tangled Up in Blue, or deal with anyone in this town again. The service by the manager was completely horrible, and she left without resolving the issue with us but instead, left the establishment so somebody else could handle the issue.

This is an unique little place. We took advantage of a nice fall day and sat on the deck which was a decent size. Service was good and the burger I had was tasty and freshly made. Spotted Cow on tap too! The only annoyance was that they don’t take anything but cash and local check. An ATM is available but with a $ 2.75 charge.

Came out to Taylor Falls on a bit of an excursion and decided to take the leap out to Wisconsin. We were hungry and decided to eat before our trip, so we gambled on this small bistro that had no Unilocal reviews. Turns out the gamble paid off. I have to admit it was a bit of a wait to get our food, but once we did, it was pretty good. I had the fish sandwich on a croissant and the potato salad. It was cooked fresh, right there, which explains the wait. Service was quaint for a small mom and pop place, and the folks were nice. Great place to go to if you’re around the falls.
