Loved to eat there when Stephen owned the place. When in to with a double take deal to get the flounder sandwich that I loved(past tense). Was told Ashly was the new owner & would not take the deal. So we sat down & ordered the fish, but they were out of fish. So We ordered burgers. Both came burned, very burned. When we paid, we said they were burned and the waitress acted surprised and said she could have done something has we told her earlier. I replied that anybody would have seem they were charred and she should have been ashamed to serve them. Sorry ASHLEY, we won’t be back.

I know, I know a lot of people like this place but it just isn’t one of my favorite places to eat. It’s just me I guess.

Located just North of Napoli and South of Red Toad, this little business is good find. I don’t know what that other guy is talking about when he says they serve Mexican food, I didn’t see any thing of the sort. They serve soul food mostly. I had a veggie plate with the dill potato salad, collard greens, coleslaw and black eyed peas, with a sweet tea to drink. Eight bucks for the plate, two for the drink and two for the tip. I eat a vegetarian diet, so I was not pleased to find bacon in the potato salad and collards, but I’m from the South where I know it’s customary to add pork for flavor. I picked out what I could and just had to grin and bear it. My fault for not telling the waitress first. No biggie. Their hours are a bit wonky, so I uploaded the picture of them. What’s the deal with not serving dinner?

Looked and looked for this place Mexican food now!!! This place is tucked away in a small shopping plaza Treasure something at a main intersection. I had to call twice to find it as Unilocal get directions took me the WRONG way– anyhow it was WORTH the hassle– this guy can cook– it was changed to Mexican food but they are changing it back to soul food by popular demand. BUT if they ever have a taco special… get them– these large fresh tacos are like no other I have ever eaten. I love this place — open for breakfast and lunch and BTW he makes his own breakfast sausage from scratch. And everthing else too… Just go by the address as the town doesn’t allow any signs by the road… a real hassle for me and the business! I LOVEIT! Will be back!

Ok so Stephen reopened his excellent farm to market fare as a specialty Mexican restaurant and YUM! I just tried two soups and some guacamole and the chicken mole and I need to go back. Oh, did I mention the flan? Better than my Mom’s and that is high praise! Try and enjoy!

Barebones establishment with great soul food. Lunch menu offered only 4 choices, with about 10 side options. Our party of 5 ordered nearly everything off the menu, and everything was very tasty, particularly the fried fish and collared greens.

(locals: may contain spoilers!) Holy grail. you’ve heard of it. and now, instead of cultivating a long beard as you wait in line to eat at o’steen’s, you can slide on in to Stephen’s Fine Foods, where, for the time being, there is no line, and where you can renew your love affair with datils, local seafood, local veggies, and lovingly homemade desserts, jellies, and sauces. here, the datil pepper sauce is fresh and authentic; no corn syrupy, ketchupy, TWEE imposter here! the datils are pungent with a strong bite, like a nite at the ol’ dirt(the lazy sands…), and no add-ons like onions, maple, googoo or gaga to depress a native who can actually the handle the real thing. everything sampled was a surprise, because of how good and how delicately nuanced each of the dishes was. the fried fish was brought in by a fisherman as we ordered it, so i knew that was fresh. but the finished product was a crispy, fragile, butter-flavored fish, with tomatoes and grits, for breakfast, that reminded me of fridays as they used to be in Auggy when fish and grits were the school lunchroom staple. the pancakes were large and fluffy, and heavenly paired with the prickly pear datil jelly! bacon was crispy and plentiful. rutabagas! perfectly cooked in generously sized pieces with sweetness and texture, not like the mushy fart fertilizer that is usually served up when lesser folks attempt rutabaga. recently the restaurant hosted a slow food affair: they were also featured in the Record: Among the dishes you can order: mac & cheese, cuban black beans & rice, meatloaf with datil tomato chutney, fried chicken, baked chicken, chicken fried steak with milk gravy, fried mullet in season(dude!), pork or chicken pilau(WOWEDME), minorcan chowder, black bean chili, okra & tomatoes, FRESHCUT creamed corn, steamed cabbage, cheese grits, potato salad, cole slaw, pole beans, rice & gravy, field peas, cornbread dressing, baby limas, and more. the sour orange pie… well what can be said about a silky, citrusy confection that makes key lime pie wanna cry ’cause it will never be as good as the luscious sour orange pie at Stephen’s Fine Foods. we had to take home some of the pear jelly, and stephen himself gave us some of the house datil sauce, which is so good you’ll wanna drink it, and which i cannot now live without. sustainable locally picked food, lovingly and knowingly prepared. caring, fun, courteous service. a home away from home restaurant where you feel good about what you’re eating, and where you’re always welcome, even if your nose is sunburned off and you have surf wax in your eyebrows.
