Ah! Rural Central Pennsylvania. Where else can you find overlooking beautiful Spruce Creek, water sport rentals, a restaurant famous for its French fries(with its largest order coming in the«tray» size, and a newly opened bakery that makes vegan non-fried donuts, candied bacon, and an array of darned good cookies, cupcakes, cakes, and various puff paste pastries. Their baked goods are also served at the Spruce Creek Restaurant, and they do catering. Check out their website to see their beautiful and imaginative creations. My personal favorite under the menus tab is what looks for all the world like a pizza. .. but definitely is not a pizza. I was prepared for anything when I walked in, or so I thought. But I have to say I was struck by the warmth, humor, and creativity of the owners. It’s hard to say which is more impressive — the owners or the pastries. I love chocolate and good chocolate chip cookies. Theirs totally blew me away. I figure they must have sold their souls for a flavor wand. The proprietors are the sort of people you just feel comfortable chatting with as though you’ve known them all your life. Somehow in our conversation they mentioned they make vegan donuts and showed me some. They actually went in search of ways to make vegan baked goods. If you lived in Central PA and you were a vegan running into people like this would, well, bring tears of joy to your eyes. The donuts, which I did not try, got us onto the subject of vegan food in general. The owners told me that they are interested in reaching out to vegans. Ah, so close to paradise — one of the more beautiful spots on earth, such warm people, wickedly good chocolate chip cookies.
