Sad to say, I believe this particular IHOP had it’s last day this weekend; most of the staff and customers were talking about their closing. Jamie and I had been talking about hitting up this retro IHOP(A-frame and all!) for some time. Now, it seems, we will only have the one visit to go off of. Right on Boston Road, this IHOP shares the same street as many, many restaurants(Olive Garden, Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, and more), including the new Denny’s next door. However, it appears that this IHOP has really made an impact on its customers, to where I heard several tables mention that they«feel like family.» The inside is definitely crammed, but in some small way, it’s endearing. It’s like an old-fashioned diner! The tables are packed in, but graciously, no one seems to mind. The wait on a Saturday mid-morning was only 10 minutes or so. We were seated, greeted by the lovely Cookie, and our orders were taken right away. It wasn’t long before coffee arrived, then our food. And what a spread! We’d opted for the combos(best seller), mine with overeasy eggs, hashbrowns, bacon and swedish crepes with lingonberries, Jamie’s with sunnyside up eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, and french toast. Both of us absolutely inhaled our breakfast— but couldn’t finish it all. While everything was really good, I highly recommend the bacon and the swedish crepes. The flavor on the crepes was fantastic, but mine were a smidge soggy :( Our breakfast(with coffee) was under $ 20 for the both of us. A reasonable price for a great breakfast(that I didn’t have to cook). Our waitress, Cookie, gave the best service I’ve experienced in MA. So, I’m super disappointed that this homey, comfortable restaurant is going to be no more. RIPIHOP, Boston Road. It was nice meeting you.

Ordered eggs super over easy and they came out dark brown. The waitress ordered again and same thing. She should have never brought them out because she took my order and knew how I wanted them. Then she brought me the bill with no adjustment for the eggs, then the manager brought me the change and said oh well you want me to cook your eggs, after plate was eaten and cleared bill paid for.\ The owner of this franchise needs to spend some time in his store and fire the manager Richard. I had to call and complain to HQIHOP since I am pretty sure he will not correct himself if he took my phone call.

This IHOP has been in my town for as long as I can remember, but I hadn’t been there for years. I stopped in on a lark a few nights ago for old time’s sake and had a pleasant time. Cons: The waiter was not very friendly. In fairness, I wouldn’t be very chipper waiting tables after midnight either, but I still would like to feel welcome. I ended up waiting longer than expected for my order because of behind-the-scenes difficulties, and I was served sausages when I ordered bacon. My iced tea was a little flavorless. Pros: The food was excellent and well worth the wait. My bacon did eventually arrive, and it was the best I’ve had in years — crispy, piping hot, melts in your mouth. The pancakes were light and fluffy, cooked perfectly, without a hint of batter in the middle. The selection of syrups was impressive — I miss their boysenberry syrup, but the butter pecan more than makes up for it. Finally, the manager, a charming gentleman, came out and personally apologized to all of the customers for the wait, which I found highly professional and made me feel very forgiving of the above-mentioned shortcomings. In summary: It’s not perfect, but the food is great and the management impressed me. Would definitely eat there again.

I’ll say one thing about this restaurant that you should know because you can probably make correct assumptions about the quality of food and prices. Here it is: At 8am on a Sunday morning with a long waiting list and customers up to their ears the wait staff busts their tail for you. They work hard under(what I would consider) ‘challenging’ circumstances. I respect and appreciate that.

Not fine dining by any means, but a good place to get pancakes any time of the day. The chocolate, buttermilk, and banana pancakes are all excellent, and I love how they have actual pitchers of flavored syrups(most places just give me a little cup of bland syrup). I’m not as big a fan of the appetizers and dinner options, so I mainly stick to breakfast foods. The servers are always friendly if not the speediest, and I love the fact that it’s open late(until 1 a.m. some days).

boy oh boy, a FTR on my trip to the real dirty dirty, springfield. so i was staying next door at the hojo’s,(ho being the operative word here folks) and although i wasnt ho’ing, i was there for a phine show and needed some nourishment post game, this was next door and away we go. at 130am you would expect a certain vibe at an ihop, and especially one in springfield or any other type of downtrodden type of place. i know, my fans in sprignfield just ended their friendship with my Unilocal account. anyway, i was shocked to see the dynamic that i did here at this time, couples, 40 somethings, teenagers, really all sorts, oh, and us the washouts from the phish concert. the best part was the eminem music being played at full blast in the dinning room, and no one batted an eyelash at this at all. the waffle i got was normal, the fake strawberry and blueberry syrups i got were chemical based so nothing new there, but at 1 in the morning, it worked out fine. service was great considering, i got some decent tea and honey there too, but would i ever come back here? no no no no no no no no no. there you go
