Great service and food. Easily twice the food you get another popular Japanese Steakhouse for the same price!

I’ve eaten at dozens of teppanyaki restaurants all over the country, big cities and small. Fuji of Springfield, Mo is the worst I’ve ever experienced, and by a very large margin. The yum-yum sauce for salad dressing, the grease laden tempura veggies, the disgusting plum wine, the fried rice, the noodles… Every aspect of the food was either subpar or downright awful. The one shiny spot of the visit was the staff. Friendly, great service, creative showmanship… All of that aspect was a pleasure.

I didn’t think the hostess was very friendly, but our waitress and chef were. He was like night and day compared to our chef at Nakato’s. Everything that came off the grill was perfect, but the sushi was just sad. I was very disappointed about it because I ordered it to share with a friend who had never had sushi and it wasn’t a good way to introduce her to it. I got the hibachi steak; it was tender and juicy, cooked perfectly medium. The rice was great, the noodles great. I didn’t care for the sweetness in the spicy yum yum, or ‘seafood sauce,’ whatever they call it. Definitely going back, but I won’t be ordering the sushi again. It was comparatively the worst I ever had, even if it was still okay to eat.

I have been to Fuji many times and in special occasions. We usually order from the Hibachi menu. One time my friend got raw sushi here and had bad diarrhea. They have good lunch special and the prices are reasonable. I like their yum yum steak sauce. Staff members were enthusiastic. I recommend making reservations before coming here for dinner.

Fuji is definitely one of the older Japanese Steakhouses in town, yet somehow I had never been. A friend suggested that we meet there for a last-minute late lunch, so off I went. I was surprised to find the parking lot still chock full at 1pm on a Wednesday, and indeed, there was still a sizeable crowd there when I left at the end of my meal. Fuji does have a sushi menu and a bar area, but the majority of their floor space is dedicated to hibachi tables. When you first enter, there’s a fun water feature with a huge orange carp statue that’s fun. In general though, the interior shows the age of the establishment — it’s been a while since any updates have been made. The hibachi menu includes your standard choices — veggie, chicken, shrimp specials and so on… Prices are very economic compared to other hibachi I’ve had in Springfield. I had the veggie lunch, which after tax, was just over $ 8. Lunch hibachi includes a small salad. The salad did have some veggies mixed in with the greens, which is more than can be said for other hibachi salads I’ve had. However, the dressing, which I think was supposed to be ginger, tasted more like thousand island and was just too overpowering. No soup was served. The veggies and fried rice were good, but the noodles taste like overcooked spaghetti to me. The hibachi chef was friendly and efficient and did the standard fun tricks at the beginning — spinning spatulas, flinging eggs, flaming onion ring volcanos, but either I lost interest or his showmanship went downhill from there as he actually worked on preparing food. I think he may also have been a bit of a hurry, as when he finished, he wheeled his cart away and then was back a few minutes later to cook for the table next to ours. Overall, this is a great place for a fun, quick lunch. It would also be a good hibachi to bring kids to for a first experience as it’s pretty low key.

We wanted to find a good Japanese resturant in Springfield so we tried Fujis. It was ok not great. Sushi was not that good, rice was under cooked, and the meat was poor quality. So will not be back

Hibachi is one of my wife and I’s favorite type of restaurants. We dont typically stop here, and while we called our usual hibachi stop and found out there was an 1 and ½ hour wait time, we called Fuji and found out there was no wait time. My wife made the remark about yeah theres probably a reason theres no wait because there probably isnt anyone there and there’s probably a reason. Well she was right. The table we sat at only had three other people making it a total of 5 people at the table. The service was actually the best thing here. The servers were attentive and prompt. The food however, was lackluster in every way possible. The«yum yum sauce or seafood sauce» tasted like straight up thousand island dressing. The rice was so clumped together that i had to separate it on my plate. When we left we both felt extremely sick. We won’t be coming back.

My wife and I had an enjoyable evening. Very attentive service from Calico our server and the floor manager. The Hibachi chef was hard to understand and quiet and seemed to just be going through the motions. The Teriyaki chicken and Tempura roll we had was very good. We would definitely eat here again.

Seems to be the same as any other Japanese Steakhouse. The only thing I was disappointed in was that their salad doesn’t have the ginger dressing. Rather it has the same dressing that they serve as a dip with your entrée. I wasn’t wowed so I probably won’t be back.

This used to be one of our favorite joints. A few years ago I probably would’ve given it 5 stars, but it has gone downhill lately. They used to give you free fried rice, but then a little while ago they started charging for it and when I asked about it the waitress lied about it and said they had always charged for it. I don’t mind paying extra for fried rice, most Japanese steakhouses do charge for it, but it was the fact that she had obviously been instructed to tell customers a certain thing by a supervisor. The wait staff is usually awesome, but the cooks are lackluster in their performance which is one of the features of a Japanese Steakhouse IMO is the show. Don’t expect much of an enthusiastic performance here from the chefs. Sometimes the meat and sides are great and other times, they are average at best. Not sure if I will continue coming here or not. It’s not horrible, but it’s not as great as it used to be.

If I were writing this review about 4 – 5 years ago, it would have been a 5 star. Heck, I would have tried to give it a 6 star, if possible. For a couple of years, we ate here pretty much every week. It wasn’t abnormal for us to eat it twice in a week. They had the best of everything, filet, rice, noodles, salad, seafood sauce, sushi, etc… all at a great price compared to the other hibachi places in town. Then a few years back, it really went downhill. I don’t know if maybe it was new owners, but something big changed in how they do things. The chefs stopped doing as good of a job with the show; that’s not really a big deal, but it fit in with the overall direction in which the restaurant was headed. The food went downhill, too. I used to love their filet, but the last couple times we went, I swear it wasn’t filet. When they brought it out, my wife and I both noticed it looked weird, but didn’t really worry too much about it. The taste was definitely off though. Nothing seemed to be quite up to par that meal. We chalked it up to an off day, though, and went back the next week. This time, the experience was the same… and we ended up both leaving feeling sick. That was the last time we ever went back. On that note, it could be better by now… and I really hope it is better, but I don’t think I will be finding out any time soon.

Great service!!! Hibachi was very good and very affordable I had the early bird special(steak and shrimp) great deal for only $ 12.99. The cook at our table was awesome and was very attentive towards my 11 year old child whom was constantly asking questions. My wife had the Tempura Veggies and Philadelphia roll and she really enjoyed it. Only reason for the 4 star review is because I ordered the sushi sampler and for $ 8.00 it was just a little well it was not much. Service great… Waitress offered to get us to go drinks and we never even asked. We were very impressed with the friendliness and courtesy of the staff. We will return!

I really like fuji they have an awesome staff and great japanese chefs. They cook the food right in front of you and do lots of cool stuff with the food and they are pretty good at juggling knives. Gordon Ramsey would probably like this restaurant.

Excellent food and excellent service. It is like dinner and a show having the food made in front of you. I could keep eating until I was not able to walk if I let myself. You def get your moneys worth.

Amazing!!! Finally found a place with sauce similar to Sakura’s/Samurai’s in Tacoma, WA. I have been to hibachi grills in multiple states looking for a place that makes this seafood sauce. It’s got a creamy base and a unique flavor. Our chef did the standard show-flipping the egg into their hat, flaming onion volcano, the usual.
